Chapter 1:
Summoned to another and all I do is screw up
Daisy settled into the bath. It was a long day being a detective. Her mother is happy that she is building a career. She will be 30 years old soon. She got into the police force after they changed the requirements for women since there wasn't enough women joining and passing the requirements men had to meet.
Daisy kinda liked the work but she had little energy for anything else. She had no dating experience and her close friends were too busy with husbands and kids to hang out.
Daisy washing herself in the bath felt a bit lonely. A circle of light appeared on the floor with strange markings. It shot up to engulf her.
She felt herself falling. Blinded by the light, she could only flail about until she landed on a hard floor. She knew she would have a bruise, at least she had enough fat to cushion her fall.
"What is a naked woman doing here? You were supposed to summon a man!" Someone shouted.
Daisy opens her eyes, looking for who was shouting. She heard whispers about her weight and how she couldn't do the work of a hero. She covered herself with her arms and tried to curl in a way that wouldn't expose too much of her naked body. Being mortified over being seen like this, she had no clothing to cover herself.
A knight grabbed the cloak of the nearest mage and strode over to cover Daisy with it.
"Chris! Take that woman to the chambers set up for the hero." The person dressed in regal attire ordered.
The knight who gave Daisy the robe, told her to stand up and follow him. Daisy stood up quickly and took a step on unsteady legs. Her feet were numb and she ended up stumbling. The knight caught and picked her up in his arms.
After they left, the king demanded "Tell me why a woman was summoned."
One of the mages answered "I don't know. I set up the magic circle as described on this scroll."
Another mage, "Scroll? The method for summoning heros was described in a book. Let me see that scroll."
The mage handed it over. The mage in a white robe with gold embroidery said "this isn't the original summoning spell. You screwed up. This one clearly summons a woman and does not bestow hero powers."
The mage who had the scroll apologizes. He was the one who had his robe taken and seems to be in his late teens.
"Guess we are stuck with her." Another mage said.
"Well I will have to formally welcome her as the hero whether she is or not. The people need to know that we are doing something about the monsters." The king said and started ordering people to prepare for a public welcoming of this woman for the next day.
