Chapter 5:

Chapter 5: Stairs and The Chant (Part 1)

Damn you Jesteeeeeer!

I ruffled my feathers in frustration after successfully being tricked by the damn monitor, even though everything felt real but it was useless if the possession of the rare sword 𝘦𝘬𝘢 whatever was only for a short time, it was appropriate that the monitor called this area an experiment, it was indeed just for trying!

To hell with the Jester, I better prioritize my original goal; cleaning this red color that sticks to my hands.

Everything is so peaceful with every step I take, no notification sounds, no black figures standing in the way, no annoying numbers, no damn monitors, not even a gust of wind.

I paused for a moment; the distance between me and the stairs was not so far. I allocated this time to take a deep breath and then do some stretching movements to loosen up my joints, just in case when I made an unnatural movement, that part of my body experienced sudden pain or cramps.

There's nothing wrong with anticipation, right? And it could be that later when I went to the stair area there was another new challenge that required fast movements like the previous challenge.

After I'd moved enough parts of my body, I continued on my way to the stairs, until I reached the mouth of the stairs and was faced with two choices.

Up or down? If I went up then I would be on what floor- Eh? One moment ….

Why can't I remember?

What floor am I currently on? No, how many floors is this school?

Ugh, maybe it's the effect of being unconscious so often, my memory is impaired.

Ah! It's too late from what floor, if I think logically then in order to go upstairs I can't see the black figure that is waiting-in the worst case dwells on the second part of the stairs that turns then goes in the opposite direction; automatically it can't be seen. Whereas, if I took the option of going down then I could look down the side and confirm whether there was a black figure there or not.

Although everything would be ruined if there was another trap area with a notification sound that I had heard too many times to make my energy drain just by its appearance.

Alright! I'll choose to go down the stairs. When I had just stepped on the first step with my right foot, the notification sound echoed, but this time it was different from before, more like a bird chant, suddenly the transparent wall pushed the top of my back and I couldn't help but lower my left foot as well so that I was completely confined to this staircase area.

I swiftly walked to the right and looked at the bottom of the stairs; thankfully there was no black figure there.

When I looked back to the front, at the end of the wall in front of me, the words 'Bonus Area' were written at the very top, of course in the usual red color.

What does bonus area mean? Will I get something if I make it through the area this time? Or maybe I wouldn't lose consciousness like I had in the past?

Then another text appeared below the bonus area.

'𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀'

'Listen to the sound being played and then determine which instrument produced the sound by stepping on the rungs of the stair with the symbol of the instrument'

'Every time Image steps on a rung to answer, the transparent wall behind will immediately move forward making it impossible to go back to the previous rung'

'Correct answers do not have any effect, if you answer three times in a row, you will be given the opportunity to go down the rung once more without answering the challenge'

'Wrong answers will move the transparent wall at the last step forward by one, and if you get it wrong three times in a row, the transparent wall will move forward twice at the third wrong answer'

'The correct answer after the wrong answer can move the transparent wall at the front once while the consecutive correct answers twice will move the transparent wall at the front to the earliest'

'𝗜𝗳 𝗜𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘆, 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘁!'

Wow! That's a lot of text for this challenge.

So in this area if I cheat I will be killed on the spot? Crazy! But it could be worth it if I can actually complete it, maybe there will be a reward given because this time there is a bonus text up there.

If you count the total number of stairs I have to go through is 11, the one I'm on doesn't count, right?

Eh. Wait, there's no time limit in guessing? Isn't it easier than the previous one if I'm given time to think, but if I'm wrong a lot then I'll end up dead crushed between two transparent walls.

Before I had time to think further, the challenge began, signaled by the sound of the same bird chanting as when I first stepped onto the stairs some time ago.

It wasn't until now that I realized that the stairs that were originally decorated in an irregular red color had now become pure white, and I'm still amazed at whether it's technology or perhaps school magic that underlies all of this.

The first chant was played.

𝘑𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘨 𝘑𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘨 𝘑𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘨

The stairs below my feet had instrument symbols;

Guitar; Violin; Piano

Ah, this is too easy!

With sure steps my right foot stepped on the guitar symbol followed by my left foot stepping on the same rung.

𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿

My confidence increased after finding out that this challenge turned out to be this easy. Maybe I could get three correct answers in a row.

Then the second chant played.

𝘉𝘢 𝘥𝘶𝘮 𝘵𝘴𝘴

Symbols of the available instruments;

Harmonica; Bass; Drum

Again? This easy?

I landed my feet in a stylized manner aka a small jump in the direction where the drum symbol was.

𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿

Yes! One more time and I'll get the bonus of going down the stairs without answering the chant!

The third chant played.

𝘛𝘰𝘰𝘰𝘰𝘰𝘰𝘰𝘰𝘰𝘰𝘰𝘰𝘵

With the red decorations on the steps below me, there were several instrument options to choose from;

Harp; Trumpet; Microphone

Ahahahah why is there a microphone listed here?

While giggling I answered by stepping on the trumpet symbol and of course the answer I inputted this time was correct.

I was allowed to go down the stairs one more time before the fourth chant was played. Maybe luck was on my side.

With a smile on my face, I waited for the fourth chant.
