Chapter 1:

Promise

The Devil's Vessel

After breakfast Arlen does his usual routine of chopping firewood. A mysterious entity who can manifest inside my mind. Arlen thought about the entity. He still had many questions surrounding him after his encounter with him last night. What does he want? What is he? Why me? Thoughts filled Arlen.

"I have a name you know,"
"What the—? How are you here?"
"I'm not limited to the subconscious realm only you know,"
"Then is it necessary for you to call me there this morning?"
"Honestly... No, but it makes for a great intimidating scene you know,"

Arlen rolled his eyes after the questionable conversation he had with Astaroth. An entity that can manifest himself in realms. The idea of the entity seems terrifying, but in reality he seems... how can I put it... rather moronic.

"How have you been?" Arlen heard Auria's voice from the distance. Arlen saw Auria approaching him.
"Not much,"

"Not much?" Auria questioned Arlen's response. "I've seen you talking to yourself. What is that all about?"

"What're you doing here? It's rare to see you here. Normally you would go to the village at this time," Arlen tried to change the topic.

"Oh, it's nothing actually... Just a routine change I guess,"

Surprisingly, it worked. Arlen sat down on a bench nearby. I've got to do something with this mark. I can't let Auria see this. Arlen holds his neck desperately trying to hide the mark from Auria. "What's the problem?" Auria asked Arlen after seeing him holding his neck weirdly.

"Oh, nothing,"
"If you're trying to hide that tattoo, just don't. I already knew about it,"

"What?" Arlen was in shock. This is bad! How does she know? When did she found out?

"It was last night when I woke you up I saw that tattoo on your neck. I was going to ask you about it,"

What should I do? If I told her about him, she's not going to believe me.
"Oh, is the cat out of the bag already?"
"Shut it, I'm thinking on how am I going to explain to her about you,"
"Just explain it you know,"
"No way she'll believe this story,"
"She literally saw me went inside your body yesterday you know. There's no way she doesn't believe you. Unless, if you want me to do something,"
"Do what?"
"Try putting your hand on her head,"

Arlen looked at Auria and put his hand on her head. Honestly what is this supposed to achieve?
"Trust the process will you?"

"Arlen... what is going on?"
"Ah, so you're here too," Astaroth greets Auria. "This is Arlen's subconscious. Pretty empty if you ask me,"
"Who's there?"
"Don't worry Auria, he's nothing," Arlen responded.
"So, Auria is it? Nice to meet you, I'm the smoke you saw yesterday,"
"What?"
Gosh this thing sucks at conversing
"Don't interrupt me when I'm explaining. So, Auria, yesterday your friend Arlen here, had opened a book. An ancient one to be exact, and he broke the seal that trapped me inside there. So here I am, inside Arlen's body,"

Arlen glanced over Auria and saw Auria's body trembling because of the entity that just spoke to her. She can't fully comprehend what is going on. Why Arlen? What is he? Questions like these filled Auria's mind.

"Okay, since you both have asked me THAT kind of question, maybe I should at least show myself,"
"What? You can read my thoughts?" Auria was shocked.
"You think? Anyways, look up,"

Arlen and Auria looked above and saw something forming above them—black particles forming a shape. It was there, two menacing eyes, a large sinister smile. Auria is becoming more scared after seeing the face of the entity.

"Scared much?"  Astaroth said. "Well I thought so," The face above them disappeared and then manifested into something else. It stood besides Auria.

"How about this form," Astaroth said to Auria while taking the form of Arlen.
"What?" Auria whispered as she can't comprehend what is going on right now.
"What's the matter? I thought you aren't afraid of this boy,"
"What did you just do?" Arlen questioned Astaroth.

Astaroth rolled his eyes after hearing Arlen's question. Maybe he just asked a stupid question. Did I seriously got called stupid by myself?

"Listen here... I am a Devil," Astaroth said. "Unlike you humans, we don't have limitations in our magic," he continued. "We devils don't need magic divisions, spell divisions all that shit. We can do whatever we want. Transform, manipulate, amplify, anything. We devils are the better life form. Humans are just eh..."

"What are you talking about?" Auria questioned Astaroth.

"It means that we devils are far more superior than humans. If a single devil possess this kind of power, imagine what will happen if both a devil and a human shared their powers," Astaroth glanced at Arlen. "That's why I invaded your body," Astaroth said menacingly. "I want to embed chaos into this world. Both you and I will bring chaos,"

"What? No!" Arlen refused Astaroth. "I will never side with the devil,"

"Oh, strong disagreement I see here," the Arlen-Astaroth manifestation disappeared and formed Astaroth true form. It has  a white face with black eyes and red iris. It also has two large wings made from what it seems like black flames. Astaroth's sharp nails reached Arlen's throat and said, "Listen here, you need this power. Not all people can tolerate with devils. A part of yourself had already become a devil. There will be moments you need to use the devil's power and when you do, I want chaos," Astaroth explained.
