Chapter 10:

Art

One Step To Hell

Ryota having said the enchantment of his spell, a huge amount of spiritual swords appeared around him and defended him from Parsifal's attack. Parsifal managed to dodge the several swords that followed him and returned to Kyler's side.

“Parsifal, this man is no joke. We'll have to coordinate our attacks, at least until the meteor hits the village.” whispered Kyler.

“Okay.” said Parsifal.

They both started to run towards Ryota. Ryota just stood where he was.

“Water Axe!” said the enchantment Kyler.

“Burning Fist!” said the enchantment Parsifal.

They managed to get past the swords that were chasing them and came close to Ryota. Kyler was face to face with Ryota and was getting ready to hit him with his axe, but...

“DISAPPEAR!!!” shouted Ryota with a totally different air.

Some of the spirit swords lost their shine and went at extreme speed towards Kyler, thus piercing him. Ryota still drew his sword and landed another blow on Kyler. Parsifal just watched the event as it was so sudden. Everything indicated that the attacks Kyler had received had been fatal. He fell to the ground and had no reaction.

“You will pay!” shouted Parsifal.

“You're next. I will show you the power of my art.” said Ryota, now in his normal state.

Ryota Morioka when he was little wanted to follow in his family's footsteps, to be a swordsman. However, he was considered a failure not only in his family but in the village he lived in, the Swordsman Village. Everyone in that place had a future to be swordsmen, men and women, but Ryota couldn't even learn the basics. His family was the most important family in the village as it had the best swordsmen in it, including his father who was the strongest swordsman in that place. As Ryota was considered a failure this began to tarnish the family name throughout the village. One day Ryota's father decided to put an end to his own son, after all the family members agreed that he couldn't stay alive. On the night that the murder was going to happen, Ryota was lying down, but he still wasn't sleeping. He was crying once more because he thought he was a failure. He was frustrated because he didn't want to become a swordsman because it was mandatory in the family, but because it was something he intended to be.

Screams of terror began to be heard throughout the village and Ryota couldn't understand what was happening. He decided to leave the house to see what was going on. When he left, he saw several bodies of the village's citizens lying on the ground and covered in blood. He was starting to feel terrified, but he started to hear his father's voice saying:

“Please please...”

He followed his father's voice and found all his family members dead, including his father. In that place was a young adult with a japanese sword. Ryota was panicking, until the young adult said:

“Ryota, you want to be a swordsman, don't you?”

Upon hearing this, Ryota said that he was a failure and that he would never be a swordsman.

“They said that about me too, Ryota, but I overcame many obstacles to become a swordsman and now I want to pass on all my teachings to you.”

Ryota asked who the young adult was to which he replied:

“I'm your older brother, Yuki Morioka. Nice to meet you.”

Somehow, little Ryota knew that Yuki was being honest with him and went on his way with him.

Years passed and Ryota became a good swordsman thanks to his brother's teachings. However, Ryota until that day didn't know why his brother had killed the entire Swordsman Village. So he decided to ask the question:

“Yuki, why did you kill everyone that day?” asked Ryota.

“Because I knew what you suffered at the hands of those people, Ryota.” replied Yuki.

“How?” asked Ryota.

“Because I had the exact same treatment, but I had someone who helped me out of that Hell.” replied Yuki.

“And why did you decide to go get me? I didn't even know I had an older brother.”

“I knew everything that happened there because the person who helped me was an resident of the village.”

“Who was?”

“He was someone very strong. I thought this person was the best swordsman ever seen.”

“That person...”

“Yes, it's dead. His last words were: “I taught you everything I had to teach you, now it's your turn to pass on the teachings...”.”

“Is that where you decided to come to me?”

“Yes, but my goal that night wasn't just that.”

“What was more?”

“Revenge. Revenge for treating you the same way they treated me and for killing the person who made a swordsman out of me.”

“Was it the people of the village who killed your master?”

“Yes, and you've seen how things are, the people who called me and you failures were killed by me.”

“Do you think it was the right thing to do?”

“Ryota... In order to protect something, whether it's a person, a belief or something else, we sometimes have to do wrong things for our own benefit.”

“Hmmm... I want to get stronger so I can protect good people.”

“I will teach you everything that is missing, after that I count on you to do good things. Remember, knowing how to use a sword is art.”

A few months have passed since that day. One day Ryota went to meet Yuki on a small plain to continue with their training, but when he arrived at the meeting point he found his brother's body lying on the ground. Yuki was dead.

Ryota cried a lot and swore to avenge his brother who protected him and taught him to be a good swordsman. He later enlisted in the Knights of Redon as a Class 1 knight. He was getting stronger every day, but his personality seemed a little different since his brother's death.

Parsifal was getting ready to attack still with his Burning Fist spell, but he couldn't even get close to Ryota.

“Now, I'm going to show you a little more of my art... PRESENCE CUT!!!” said Ryota with his darkest air.

Ryota's sword gained an aura around him and he was about to land a blow on Parsifal, but Kyler suddenly stepped forward.

“Kyler?” said Parsifal.

“Run away as soon as possible and report the situation to the Leader, I'll finish things here.” said Kyler.

“Okay.”

“Wa…Water Prison.” said the enchantment Kyler.

Parsifal had started to run away and Kyler, having finished saying the name of the enchantment, grabbed Ryota with his hand and a huge bubble of water began to form around them.

*Guffaws*

“You can try whatever you want now, when I activate this spell even if I die before it is finished it can no longer be undone. We will both die!!!” said Kyler, laughing.

“Let's dance with the swords...” said Ryota calmly.

With the remaining spirit swords he sliced through the bubble and Kyler over and over again until the spell was undone. Kyler dropped to his knees and asked him how he had managed to undo the spell. He replied that it was something he would never understand. Kyler fell to the floor dead.

“Very well, now let's stop this meteor.” said Ryota.

Ryota firmly gripped his sword with both hands and pointed it upwards. He said another enchantment:

“Cross Dimensions!”

As he said the enchantment he threw his sword forward and the spell was performed. An invisible slash cut the meteor in two and made the two parts disappear.

“Looks like my job here is done...” said Ryota more calmly.

How much power will this swordsman's art have?
