Chapter 9: My new family ※ Nina’s POV

Constant abuse from father, older brothers and even my younger twin sisters… just remembering that woke me up from slumber in my new bed.

That’s right. I’m now adopted daughter of Frontier count Frederick Gal Netrose…

My mind went back to the events of last few days… My telepathy skill, which is hated by public even more then psychic magic, which I also possess got found out. Then the disbanding of my family house and charging father of treason… My brothers calling for my death...

I thought that I will be killed the moment father is as well, but fate played different card for my life and I was to be adopted by the frontier count… and more so the family of the boy who uncovered it all… I was so, so angry at him. I wanted to make him suffer… just like I did...

And when we meet again… his heart was full of sadness, but he wasn’t pitying me, he seemed worried about me. Why, why would he do that? I… I can’t be angry anymore… the voices in my head which hunted me since my birth… hearing everyones real thoughts... and yet... these people... not a single one of them think of me as curse...

„I still don’t understand… that Leo Netrose…“

„Oh, no need for that,“ his voice rung through empty room.

I quickly sit up stright on my bed and saw him sitting on sofa like it would be the most natural thing to do.

„W-what do you want? Why did you come here?“ I asked angrily. He have that barrier around him, I can’t read his thoughts, unlike with that lewd elf girl behind the doors… urgh, if I could at least control this curse of mine…

„You probably just tried to read my mind but failed. Although I don’t have the barrier on me now, I was still able to block it. That’s thanks to this,“ he said and took from his neck a necklace. In that moment I was able to read his mind.

'This should help her' I could hear in his mind.

„W-what is that?“ I asked as I closed the distance between us.

„It’s necklace with magic core inside. If you charge it with magic, it will supress your skill. But it would be good if you didn’t need it one day,“ Leo smiled at stunned me and with 'Oh, and welcome to our family, lil sis' left the room.

I could hear his thoughts from behind the door. I took the necklace from the tea table and put it on me. In that moment complete silence enveloped me. I could no longer hear everyones thoughts. Somehow... it felt peaceful.

„Sniff… thank you… Leo…“ I started to cry and couldn’t stop. From this day, I knew that if anything will happen to me, my big brother Leo will help me.
