Prologue

The city stood tall like an island in the midst the waste. What had once been a beautiful city surrounded by rivers and forests in the heart of the flatlands was now filthy, rotting at its core. Despite that the city stood taller than ever. The city held the inhabitants in its grasp. It wasn’t a firm grasp, yet for the isolated children with nowhere else to go the city was the only home and mother. So it was that on the rare cold nights when the stars were visible, some of the children gazed upwards and reached out towards the faint light of hope.

One of those children was running away. She left her old life behind and tried to begin anew, moving on from the dangers and adventures and hoped it would remain that way forever. The city had other plans for her and she would soon learn that she couldn’t escape from her past forever as the price of running was sometimes too high.
