Chapter 7:

Our New Enemies

Try-Hard Assassin

Gavria Prinsep. Although she is without a tragic past, she wants to stop at nothing in order to figure out the disappearance of her older brother. After her older brother supposedly graduated from Fordiyurta Academy, he never came home, never wrote back, and the school neglected any messages of his whereabouts. Police were called on the disappearance, and although they claimed that the school is unsure about this, it was clear to Gavria that they were feigning ignorance. Gavria was never interested in this school, but now she is forced to play the assassin game in order to figure out the truth. With the help from Lia, she has made one step closer to getting to the source of the answer.

“You didn’t help jack shit,” Gavria nonchalantly said to Lia.

“You were the one saying you needed a one second distraction, how the fuck was I supposed to be big help for that?”

“Literally anything but call attention at that one second.”

“What’s with your attitude anyways? You were all hyper a while ago, and now you like lost all the emotion to have a realistic social life.”

“I only lose my cool when there are complete morons ruining my plans.”

“Well great, you’re those instant batshit crazy characters. At least I know what to do when we are in some danger and need a stupid way to solve the issue”

“I wouldn’t call this issue solved though.”

“Hey, look in your hands. We have a clue of where to go. It says sniper clan. Yeah, I ruined everything, huh?”

“And do you know what this means?”

“…nope.”

“So, we basically discovered nothing but this cliché and generic club name. I don’t have the patience to figure out the stupid puzzle code on the paper.”

“But you were the one acting like you discovered something cool.”

“It was, until I realized how idiotic it was for me to act interested.”

“Okay, let’s stop and think how we can use this to our advantage.”

Lia took a closer look at the paper. The note was printed, so there’s no way to trace hand writing. The puzzle above was still just a mess of symbols with no clue to decipher.

“Never mind, I have no fucking clue of what to do with this.”

“With the word clan in the name, it means we’re going up against probably a double-digit number of students. We couldn’t identify even one guy, so taking this person out is like assassin Whack-a-Mole. Or, Whack-a-Sassin.”

“It’s a freakin’ rigged game from the start. Man, fuck this, I’ll see you around Gavria.”

“I don’t really want to see you around, so I’m blocking you from my phone right now, uh, Lia Haruwadu was it? That’s your full name?”

“Does it matter?”

“Uh, yeah, how am I supposed to block the right person?”

“Fine whatever, I’ll just block you too.”

Lia pulled out her phone, but looked at a black screen. That’s because her phone was still dead. She then used her imagination to picture a contact screen, and looked at the only real friend she ever made and cooperated with at this school. Cooperation. Friend. Contact.

“Stop! I think I thought of something.”

Gavria put down her phone and listened without hope of it being sane.

“How do you think the Sniper Clan formed.”

“Probably a bunch of friends banded together.”

“Well, don’t you think that is too perfect? What if they aren’t actually friends. They were just really good snipers who have proven their skills to join the clan?”

“Yep, that’s pretty much the definition of the clan.”

“So, all we gotta do is prove we are good enough to join this clan.”

“And you really think they’ll do that after what we just did today?”

“Well, that’s why we just have to keep training. We have to get more fit. We have to get more skilled. We need to do our very best to get their attention, and have them acknowledge us as one of the best assassins in this school.”

“Are you stupid? You literally told me 30 minutes ago how doing this assassin thing is pointless. Furthermore, even if you become as good as those snipers, wouldn’t it just become pointless because you’d be good enough to take them out on your own anyways? How long would it even take to get to their level?”

“…Why is real life such bullshit?!”

Lia broke down and start pounder her fist on the wall. Gavria however, had a little bit of inspiration, despite hearing the stupidest plan ever.

“Well, maybe we can’t do it on our own. But I know someone who can help us.”

Lia had a good feeling of whom Gavria was talking about. However, Lia’s good yet cautious judgement has finally struck her.

“Wait, Gavria. I’d love to know who you’re talking about, but please don’t say Jaka.”

“Why? You pissed her off that much?”

“Well, not so much pissed off. More of that I’ve visited her an embarrassing number of times now.”

“I’m not seeing how this will affect me negatively”

After being unable to name any other helpful candidate, Lia and Gavria make their way to meet Jaka, again.

“I thought I told you to go away,” said Jaka, rubbing her hands on her eyes.

“Great, see what I meant? Now this cringey moment is going to stick with me the rest of my life,” Lia said unenthusiastically.

Gavria lightly tapped Lia to keep her aside.

“Hey, can you help train me to be a great assassin? We want to infiltrate a clan.”

“Why?”

“I’ve got a brother who went missing. I figured trying to figure out what happened.”

“Sure, I’ll help.”

“WHAT?!” yelped Lia. “Why aren’t you being dismissive to this girl?”

“I would’ve said no, but you were right. I have nothing to do at this school. I have nothing outside of school. However, you inspired me to teach people.” Jaka got up and took out her paintball gun. “But only those who feel deserving, so not dumbshits like you who do nothing to fix their issues.”

“You can’t just use my words to help someone else. That’s so fucking cheap!”

“What’s your name, was it Gavria? Did this girl help you at all?”

“She pretty much brought me here, but besides that, pretty useless.”

“Hey! We got that code card thing, quit acting like I did nothing at all!” Lia butted in.

Gavria handed the note to Jaka. Her eyes opened a bit, but looked back at both of us.

“I’m not saying this is suicide since you’re not dying in this game, but I honestly don’t know what the fuck this clan is going to do with you if you cross them.”

“They’re really that good?” asked Gavria

“Lia, remember when you got shot and you basically got no answer as to who shot you?”

“Yeah, you were the one who was supposed to give me that answer.”

“Well now that it is actually relevant, this is who shot you and me. I’ll admit, I’m probably better than these guys, but if I drop my guard for a second, for example if Lia were to physically attack me, then they would definitely get me.”

“Well, at least I didn’t reward points to a bunch of amateurs.”

Jaka turned to Gavria. “Bitch, how the hell did you even cooperate this idiot?”

“We didn’t.”

“Wait, stop this slander! You saw how I was a behaved little doggy with you, Jaka,” Lia interfered. “I seriously wanted to learn from you! Why do you think I still have videos of you from the training?”

Lia pulled out her phone and tried to play one of the videos.

“Aw shit, dead battery, that’s right”

“Why were you even going to show me my own creepshot video?” asked Jaka

“To prove that I’m, capable of capturing you without noticing. Ha, I bet you didn’t even catch me.”

“She doesn’t really have a point, but might as well teach her just to get her to stop,” said Gavria.

“So, I’ll train you two to be better assassins than this Sniper clan. Gavria wants to find her brother, and you?”

“According to Gavria, and apparently YOU who knew all along, if you have decent grades, you can transfer schools. However, instead of getting proper grades, I try to threaten the director with my assassin skills, and force him to transfer me out.”

“That is fucking stupid, but I’m done arguing. Let’s get this training started right now.”

Jaka’s assassin training began. Every day was almost equally brutal as the labor camps. However, the difference being Jaka’s empathy towards everyone’s health and wellbeing, and the skills they learned had proven benefits for being an actual assassin.

Through a slice of life like montage, Lia and Gavria learned how to shoot properly. Not just accuracy and precision, but how to get into position as fast as possible, and how to aim while in motion. They learned how to be sneaky, keeping their voices, breathing, and footsteps to a minimum. After several days, the two of them miraculously transformed. Gavria definitely, Lia not so much.

“That was really exhausting, but it will all pay off. We’re going to get back at that stupid sniper clan,” said Lia.

“Remember, we’re not going to shoot these people from the inside since they can get back up easily. We just need to get their identities, and they are finished,” responded Gavria. “Now we just need some disguises just in case they recognize that incident a couple of days ago.”

“Damn, with the skills Jaka has, I wish she could join us with it.”

“What? Who said I couldn’t join?” spastically interrupted Jaka.

“Wait a minute. Lia, you were supposed to ask Jaka if she could join,” said Gavria.

“I thought the clan would know something was suspicious as soon as they saw Jaka.”

“Not unless she had a disguise, which is what we needed, because we look just as suspicious as her.”

“Well, Jaka doesn’t seem to like me.”

“She likes me though.”

“Oh yeah, I was supposed to know I was supposed to invite Jaka just because I was supposed to know she likes you. In fact, why the hell did we even do this training? We could’ve just put Jaka in a disguise, have her infiltrate in, and get the identities for us.”

“True, but I’m bored, and this is the only fun I can get at this school,” replied Gavria.

“Alright, let’s call a bullshit truce,” yelled Jaka. “I’m in with you two. Let’s get some disguises, get their attention, get what we need, and then somehow use it to get to your goals. Man, this idea is actually stupid now that I think about it.”

The three of them set off. Their main goal is to keep going after their victims like normal, but show their expertise in sniping their targets. Only time would tell when they could grab the attention of the sniper clan.
