Chapter 10:

Last Dance For Love (True Ending)

Say Something

It was a new morning, and classes were now in session. During German class, Jeff was awfully quiet and did not say much to Charia. He was very concentrated on his tasks. This made Charia concerned.

“Jeff, you have been awfully quiet and have not said much... is something wrong?”

“I want to talk with you after class, woman.”, replied Jeff.

“Oh, okay.”

After class was finished, Charia and Jeff packed their belongings. Jeff signaled for Charia to follow him, and she trailed behind him. Eventually, the two stood under a tree. Snow began to pour out from the sky.

“Charia. I... uhh... I saw your text message from Volker... about you two... you know”, revealed Jeff.

Charia gasped and was surprised and turned her head around in shame.

“Ah! I... I... I am sorry”, apologized Charia.

“But why, and for how long, Charia? Just why!?... I don’t understand why you would do this. Was I just a plaything for you, until your real boyfriend returned?... Someone to keep you company? Were you... were you still together will Volker this entire time?”, Jeff exhumed out of his mouth, as he clenched his own shirt, as if his heart was about to fall out of his chest. A single tear rolled down his right cheek.

Charia paused for a couple of moments. She hesitated to answer because she knew she was guilty.

“Yes”, finally answered Charia.

Jeff then asked, “And what? Does Volker have some cuckhold fetish or something!?”, questioned Jeff, as he slightly raised his voice.

“No... I... no. After Volker met you, he just thought that you were a really nice guy, Jeff. Besides, it is not like you and I slept together or actually did anything serious”, answered Charia.

“Nothing serious!?... So, clearly, he does not take me seriously... Charia, do you?”, asked Jeff, in a tone of voice that signified that he was losing hope in keeping her as his girlfriend.

Once again, there was a long pause. The cold wind could be heard blowing the tree branches back and forth.

“I take our friendship seriously.”, finally mustered out Charia.

“Oh yeah, sure... of course you do! Anyways, I’ll see you later. Auf wiedersehen, Charia von Hürlimann”, sarcastically stated Jeff.

“Goodbye.”

Jeff walked away home. He did not know if Charia felt guilty for what she had done or not. At that moment, he did not care.

He just did not want to see her anymore. Jeff was angry that his mother’s suspicions were correct. Of course a loser like him could not truly have a beautiful girlfriend like Charia.

It was going to be another lonely night. Jeff accepted this fact and he (temporarily) gave up on women.

Once Jeff returned home, he hurried upstairs, changed into his pajamas and sat on his bed in the dark and stared at the ceiling. He played the song “Till I Forget About You”, on his iPod, in order to cheer himself up. He danced a little in his room, bouncing from side to side.

And suddenly,

“Oh my god!!” Jeff’s hands slapped against the sides of his face, and became wide eyed.

Jeff remembered that Selina asked to meet with him for a talk. He jumped up and threw his pants and shoes on. He rushed to Hiriajuu Park (非リア充公園). He texted Selina that he would be there, while on his way there. Jeff was about 30 minutes late.

“Selina!”

“Jeff, Hallo.”

“I am sorry that I am late. I uhh...“ Jeff was breathing hard.

Selena interrupted, “It’s okay, I just wanted to ask you if...”

Selina paused for a second. Her heart was beating so fast, that she was not sure she could mutter the words. She looked down at the ground.

“If you would like to go out with me... to the school dance event coming up.” revealed Selina.

“Oh... oh.. I...”, Jeff stammered.

Jeff was not sure what to do. He still had strong feelings for Charia. He was certain that she would be at the dance event, and he thought of an idea. Jeff was going to get his woman back!

“I see... It is fine if you don’t want t—“

“I’m sorry... but I will be going with Charia.”, answered Jeff.

Jeff was ready to try again.

The clouds became darker, as the snow began to fall harder.

“Oh... uh, then I will see you around”, Selina said quickly, as she turned around, so that Jeff would not see the ice cold tears forming into her eyes.

They walked away from each other in opposite directions.

“Sorry, Selina”, whispered Jeff to himself.

———————————————

A week had passed by quickly. It was time for the celebration of youth and love.

Jeff was now at the dance event. He was dressed in a white tuxedo that he had gotten from his father, who had worn the same tuxedo when he himself was younger. Jeff poured some punch into his cup, and took a couple of sips.

There were plenty of people strewn about the entire large ballroom; they were dressed in suits and fancy dresses—some scantily clad. There were tables filled with about 6 seats each; there was a buffet area available too, where people could choose from finger foods, pizza, fried chicken, macaroni and healthier options like salads, spinach, beans, salmon and fried cod fish.

The Disc Jockey (DJ) played pop music, which kept some people dancing, and onlookers cheering them on.

Surprisingly, Selina entered the ballroom. She looked much more cheerful than before, and she came to the dance with her “Selina von Besten Praise the Sun Society” members, who all trailed behind her; some of them even took pictures of her to admire her elegance and natural beauty.

“Oh, hallo, Jeff... uhh. Let us all have some fun, ja?”, said Selina.

“Yeah...”, nodded Jeff.

The DJ switched to a more slow jam style of music; it seems that he wanted to increase the levels of romance in the air.

Next, Charia von Hürlimann entered the ballroom. She was dressed in a blue dress like Cinderella. Attached to her hand was Volker von Thieb, as they walked down the aisle. Jeff noticed the couple and intervened.

Charia’s eyes widened. She was not expecting Jeff to be here.

“Thank you for escorting my date, Volker von Thieb”, greeted Jeff with a haughty air of confidence; he even flashed a wry smile at Volker.

Volker replied, “Oh... uhh—”

Jeff grabbed Charia by the arm, spun her around in a circle and pulled her close to him. It was a slow dance.

Jeff looked Charia in her eyes to see whether or not there was any ounce (28.3 grams) of love left in them, like on their first date. However, there was not even a gram left. Jeff could not sense the same feeling Charia gave him months ago.

There were only eyes of pity, as if she felt sorry for this loser who is unable to read the situation.

Jeff was agitated and clenched his teeth; “Tch!”

“Jeff... If you need someone to dance with... I can do that with you for 5 minutes... But... I am spending this night with Volker”, whispered Charia into Jeff’s ear.

The remainder of the Jeff’s fading heart just collapsed into one thousand pieces; his brain short circuited; his body froze in place, as he let Charia go.

Jeff finally accepted that the reality was that he was just a small time fling to Charia, someone to give her attention until her real lover returned. He was disposable.

Jeff saw Charia say something else to him, but he could not listen anymore. He was overcome with this reality—the real world. Like a mannequin, Jeff stood still and watched Charia walk away and she become one with Volker once again. They were complete.

About 10 seconds later, Jeff walked to the other side of the room, which was much darker, where he stood at for the rest of the night. He looked up, as if asking God for an answer for his current suffering.

He wondered if he could have been happy, if he had made other choices... chosen to pursue other women who actually did like him.

For example, Selina wanted to go to the dance with him. He should have accepted. Moreover, Erika, Volker’s younger sister (who is now 18), went through the trouble of making food for him. These women actually made a move to show that they would contribute to make Jeff’s life happier, as he has made theirs. On the other hand, Jeff has been the only one to serve, please, give and give to Charia.

Why chase a woman who has forsaken you?

Jeff realized how foolish he was.

Jeff smiled.
