Chapter 1:

The Chaos of the End Part 002

Harmony Committee: I Will Protect Your Happy Life

After a fiery and divine catastrophe of unimaginable proportions, I was standing in front of the NEXUS. I put my hand on it, but the moment I did, the white realm went dark.

“KYAHAHAHAHA!” went the familiar laugh. Sevelrium appeared to my right, coming to me as a shadowy specter. “I am still here, Final Sage.”

I sighed. “I know—”

She raised her hand, and shadowy chains wrapped around me, tightening with every passing second. “Now do you see? Do you see what we are? We are the pebble that’s turned into the avalanche that cannot be stopped—YOU CANNOT STOP US, FINAL SAGE!”

I kept my eyes on the NEXUS. “Sevelrium, haven’t you noticed?”

“Huh? What?” Sevelrium finally looked at her body. “W-What? Why can’t I escape these?!”

She still had the fire and ice ravaging her body.

“Lysa’s warriors aren’t so merciful to just let you get away because you died.”

As I spoke, all the other damage reappeared on her spectral form. I glanced at her and made the woman’s body go unstable for a moment.

“You can’t stop us either.”

The NEXUS suddenly hummed and started rotating vigorously as bright blue energy escaped from between its panels.

Sevelrium faced the NEXUS. “No, what are you doing?!”

She reached for it, but the moment she did finally noticed—

“What the?! These chains!” She became aware of me again. “You! When—”

“When did I put the chains you placed on me back on you? And made them better?” I sneered at her. “Yeah, I wonder.”

I focused my efforts back on the NEXUS.

“What are you doing, Final Sage?” Sevelrium yelled.

“I’m fixing this apocalypse you people threw at us.”

She laughed. “And how will you do that, Final Sage?” I was quiet, so instead, she decided to examine the NEXUS. “I see…” She let out a malicious giggle. “So, you’re going to rewrite history and take the world back to that time.”

“Yup,” I replied as the NEXUS’s energies became more violent.

Sevelrium laughed and laughed at my expense until half a minute had passed. “And you believe that I will just let you do as you please?”

“Well, you’re pretty bound up now, Sevelrium.”

“Did you forget who I was?”

Suddenly, the entire space started moving. The darkness that had polluted the space itself moved. Red lightning arced around the darkness and lava spewed from the darkness-covered floor.

For the first time since we started this final phase of the battle, my heart jumped. Interfacing with the NEXUS was taking more focus than I could have imagined. That need to focus had blinded and weakened me. Sevelrium coming in with yet another power was too much.

“No one has given up on me, Final Sage!”

Red lightning struck my body, sending pain through every nerve and the lava got to my feet. It took all I had to keep my body protected and my mind focused, but there was a limit to how much I could mitigate while still using the NEXUS.

I bared my teeth and kept my focus on the NEXUS’s operations as Sevelrium laughed.

“You made a mistake, Final Sage! I didn’t just lose my physical body—I became one with this space! Did you not notice?! Or perhaps, was the NEXUS too much for your feeble human mind?”

I stayed quiet and hurried through the operations I needed to do in order for the rewrite to happen.

“No one’s coming to help you—”

“I wouldn’t be so sure of that!”

The sound of her voice made me stop thinking for a moment. So much so I lost some control of the Nexus—I just couldn’t believe it. It all happened so quickly too—all I got to see was the moment Sevelrium’s face started to warp from confidence to anger.

“Time Reversal PLUS Pause!”

The moment that command was said, the space changed, or rather, rewound back to its pure white state. Sevelrium, however, was still a spectre haunting me.

“What the—no, how! You?!” Sevelrium roar, being surprised for the umpteenth time. This time, I joined her in her surprise.

“How? I thought you died…” I said, slack-jawed.

The newcomer stepped up from behind me and grinned. She was an old friend—one who I owed everything to. Her hair was long and dark and she wore a simple silver armor set where the only thing of note was the blue cape that hung from her shoulders. This woman with the same youthful face she had twenty years ago stood between me and Sevelrium.

“Mirai…” I said, unable to stop the tears from flowing.

She smiled and closed her eyes as tears fell out. “Hey Ven… This isn’t the best time to get distracted, don’t you think?”

“Ahh,” I rubbed my eyes. “Right, right. You probably did something outrageous… And then, I’ve got to…” I faced the NEXUS again. “I’ve got to do this…. For everyone!”

“Hold on!” screamed Sevelrium. “What’s going on here? What are you doing alive? I killed you! I held your head in my arms!”

Mirai stuck her tongue out at Sevelrium. “I’m the Hero of Time, Sevelrium. Time is my plaything. The me you killed—that was just Future Me.”

Sevelrium became a stammering mess as she tried to make sense of what Mirai had just said. Me too—I was utterly confused, which wasn’t helped by the fact that I had to keep a handle on the reality rewrite.

“Hey Ven,” Mirai said, her voice soft. “Do you remember 138 days ago, when you gave me a lecture on paradoxes?”

“I do…” My eyes went wide. “Mirai! What did you do?”

“I figured out how to create a stable paradox using my powers.” She turned her gaze to Sevelrium. “I had to go that far. You were too vigilant, Sevelrium. But once I died, and you ate my head—well, I don’t blame you for not keeping an eye on me.”

Sevelrium stammered, her head bobbing between the two of us before she broke free of her surprise and chuckled. “So what? It won’t be long before I can break free of your powers, Hero of Time. The Final Sage’s abilities may be stubborn, but yours loosen with time—”

“And Ven will deal with you before then, right, Ven?”

“Huh?” Sevelrium said.

“Definitely.”

“Don’t get so cocky, brats!” Sevelrium spat. “This plan of yours—it’s useless! I am inevitable! ALL of this is!”

Mirai looked down on Sevelrium. “You know what’s funny, Sevelrium? The fact that you killed me is the proof that our plan works. We’re rewriting everything, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

I glanced at Sevelrium to see the gears in her head turning. Watching her go from confusion to horror soothed my heart.

“No…” she whispered.

“It’s happening, Sevelrium,” Mirai replied.

Sevelrium looked at the NEXUS and then at me.

“I’ll be there too—in your recreated reality! I’ll come back, Venta!” She laughed. “Rewriting history won’t stop my emergence!”

I was calm and smiled. “Sevelrium, I’m actually better suited to dealing with ghosts.”

“What?”

Golden chains flew out from me and bound Sevelrium.

“W-What is this?!” she yelped, unable to struggle.

I took a second to enjoy constantly having Sevelrium yelping.

“I’m removing you from the equation. Even if things go down, they won’t be led down by your hand.”

My body started exerting an attractive force and Sevelrium’s wispy body started being sucked in, ice, fire, and all.

“Be happy, Sevelrium. I’m making a special exception for you.”

“Y-You’re sealing me within you,” she said, shocked, her face being pulled in like smoke to a fan.

“Yup. Best to do it myself. Best to make that sacrifice.” I looked at her and smiled. “Don’t worry, I’m going to lock you so deep within me you won’t need to see me.”

“VENTA!” she roared, unable to resist much longer. “No! No, no, no!” Gone was the last veneer of confidence this enemy had. Now, she was just a raging machine.

“This is happening, Sevelrium. It’s over—”

She let out a scream before engaging in one final rant.

“No matter how much you try—even if you remove me—some things are set in stone! Too much—more than you can fathom—is against you!”

The majority of her body was sucked into mine. All that was still outside were her eternally damaged eyes.

“You will see how wasted of an effort this was, Final Sage! Curse y—”

She was gone, sucked in and sealed within my soul. All that could be heard now was the hum of the NEXUS as its energies swirled.

“Ven…” Mirai said, taking a step closer.

A surge of energy flew out from the core, striking the ground near me.

“I’ve got to focus. This is taking all my attention to do—”

“Ven, what’s the final plan here?”

I glanced at her, and then looked back at the NEXUS. “It’s that idea I told you about 130 days ago… Do you remember?”

“I do," she replied. "You want to try changing the date of the Collision of the worlds so that it happens in the 1800s instead of the 2000s.”

Author Notes:

Hey Everyone! Hope you don't mind me writing here. I'm still getting used to the interface on Honeyfeed. Anyway, hey! We're still in the Prologue phase of the story. Are you enjoying it so far? We've been dropped into a final fight of epic proportions. When I sat down to write this segment, the goal was to show the highest level of power. Depicting near god-level characters go at it is always a fun challenge.

Here, we see the tenacity of a roach in Sevelrium and we get the introduction of another element, the Hero of Time. How will this all come together? Well, you'll find out in the next chapter!

Also, in case you missed the update, this series will be updating every two days at minimum. Since I got a late start, I may have to do daily uploads, but that won't be too bad. Hope to see you in the comments!
