Chapter 12:

Fight Night At The Fight Pit

The Katana Under Our Breath

Roughly 130million people live in Japan. The Fit Pit could fit just about 135,000 people inside its structure. Out of those people, 10 of them were in the ring, and the 1 that had to be Kazue Kinoskue’s partner was Zenshi.

A man that giggled at everything “human.” The same man that had held his friends hostage, and without them Zenshi would have never made it to this festival in the first place.

It left Kazue sick to his stomach.

The rest of team Nagata watched on, unable to do anything, and just as shocked as Kazue was.

“Oh let’s look a little more excited,” Zenshi said as he stretched out his arms wide.

“Could you just, I don’t know, go away?” Kazue spoke with anger.

“But I’m here for the same reason you are, friend!” Zenshi smiled. “Can’t pass up that opportunity, tsk tsk,” he said with the wag of his finger.

“You wouldn’t have this opportunity if it weren’t for us!”

“Heeeey! You’re right!” Zenshi extended his hand forward. “Let me repay you, and help you win.”

“HA!” Kazue laughed. “I think my odds would still be higher without you. Thanks but no thanks.”

A countdown began to signal from a large 10 floating above the stadium, made up of hundreds of flying A.I. drones. The number changed to 9, then to an 8, and then a 7, all while the rest of the pairs were almost made up.

“Think carefully for a minute about the name of the game. It’s called Boss, Boss, right? There’s a winning strategy I could tell you if we join forces,” Zenshi said, still holding his hand out.

“I just don’t want to work with you, even if you could guarantee us winning,” Kazue argued.

“Then we won’t work as friends, and instead as enemies to meet later. How about that?”

The number 5 had appeared, and now the crowd began to chant with each number counting down.
Kazue reached across, and pulled Zenshi to his chest.

“I’ll gladly kick your ass afterwards,” Kazue grinned.

“Predictable as ever, human,” Zenshi snickered back into his ear. “Here’s our plan…”

The countdown had finally reached 0.

“IT’S TIME FOR BOSS BOSS!” Tsunami shouted from somewhere in the stadium, to the uproar of the crowd.

“For team one, we have competitors Bosco Taiden, and Yuka Tedo!”

They stepped to the center of the ring where a spotlight waited, and flexed their muscles intensely.

Bosco had an afro, and Yuka had a pony tail. Each of them wore swimwear accompanying their appropriate gender. The crowd went crazy for these two fan favorites.

“For team two, we have competitors Lita Takeda, and Zane Hojo!”

Lita stepped forward first, and took a bow. Slender and beautiful from head to toe, she had a black mask covering concealing her lips, with a red outline lit up on it. Ankle high boots, long tights, and wore a cardigan. A short side hairstyle, with the prominent side dyed red, and there were piercings on her ears.

There were a few whistles in the crowd.

“Gosh she’s pretty,” Saeko murmured.

Her partner Zane joined her. Round and rotund, he had a sleeveless jacket, unbuttoned and exposing his shirtless belly beneath. His trousers were nearly falling down as well, and a glowing bedazzled eyepatch hid half his face. Still, his spiky red hair managed to compliment Lita’s.

“For team three, we have sibling competitors Neito Meru, and Nago Meru!”

Neito wore all yellow, and so did her brother Nago. Each had matching headbands to match their dancing attires. Each also had long hair that reached their hips.

They had just performed in a dance four hours ago.

For team four, we have Kazue Kinoskue, and Zenshi Mizuno!”

Kazue quickled spun to face his teammate. That was Xion’s family name he used.

Quickly glancing over to see the same confusion on his team’s faces, he awkwardly stepped to the spotlight, where Zenshi waited for him, and together they both waved around.

Kazue’s blood red hair really shined here in the light. His appearance was still the same as usual; fingerless gloves on hands, black boots that glowed red beneath, ears pierced, and his favorite shirt, a large palm tree smoking from a pipe.

Zenshi, still as they’d met him earlier. The long sleeves and hair hid most of his body.

They stepped away, and Kazue took Zenshi by the shoulders.

“Think you’re funny?!” he yelled at him

“Kazue, we’re a team now. We can’t get mad at each other,” Zenshi smiled.

“For final team five, we have Virgo Umigata, and Neji Edd!” was announced

Each member stood unphased and emotionless.

Virgo’s hair was wavy, and he wore a simple school uniform. Next to his right ear was a small blue square implanted.

Neji’s hair was neatly tied back, and he wore a shirt with Tsunami’s face on it. He also had two green visors over his eyes, which retracted around his forehead after blinking twice.

“NOW PLACE YOUR BETS!” Tsunami shouted, as numbers appeared above the ring, formed by the A.I. controlled drones, constantly changing, and representing which team the fans were voting for.

Team 1 had the highest percentage at 62%, while team 4 had the lowest at 4%.

“Damnit!” Kazue said while looking up. “Not even the stadium believes we have a chance!”

“Numbers don’t mean anything, silly,” Zenshi rubbed his partner’s head, then was slapped away by Kazue.

“IT’S TIME FOR FIGHT NIGHT, HERE AT THE FIGHT PIT! CHŪBU LET’S MAKE SOME FIGHTING NOISE!” Tsunami’s syllables resounded off the walls, motivating each and every voice in the stadium to join in.

A gong sounded as the festival finally commenced, with multiple foes heading directly towards Kazue.

“SHIIT!” Kazue yelled, barely ducking beneath Yuka’s large frame, and rolling once more past Bosco’s arms.

Then, he leapt onto Neito’s back to narrowly avoid Virgo’s flying punch. As this happened, Virgo quickly said into his ear, “Help me, and I’ll help you with Zenshi.”

Kazue’s eyes widened while he was in the air, and he came flying down onto Zane, but bounced off his belly, causing Kazue to land flat back onto the mat with a loss of breath.

He looked around frantically, but was unable to find Zenshi amidst the chaos that had broken out.

Then, the action stopped.

“WE HAVE OUR FIRST ELIMINATION!” Tsunami yelled.

“Nago Meru from team three has been eliminated,” came from an automated, and much calmer voice.

Standing just near the ring ropes, Kazue could see his partner dusting off his hands.

“Sorry about tossing your brother out, uh…Neeto, right? That’s your name?” Zenshi shrugged.

“It’s Neito, and you’ll pay for that!” Neito shouted. She rolled up her sleeves, and stepped towards Zenshi as the rest of the ring parted for the two to meet.

“Ohhh Neito! Sorry! Hahaha. If you’d been there to help him, maybe I’d remember your name better.”

“Remember this!” Neito shouted, tossing her fist towards Zenshi, but unable to hit her mark. Zenshi’s head gracefully dodged.

Zenshi then took Neito’s extended arm, and wrapped it all the way around Neito’s own face. Neito’s muffled words motivated by pain could not be heard as Zenshi suffocated her with her own arm.

The surrounding competitors idly watched for an entire minute and Neito struggled to break out.

With ease, Zenshi then flung Neito into the ring ropes, which Neito fell through out of exhaustion, and hit the floor next to Nago.

“Neito Meru from team three has been eliminated,” said the calm voice, then adding, “team three has been fully eliminated.”

“AN ASTONISHING SECOND ELIMINATION!” Tsunami yelled along with an astonished crowd.

Kazue had wanted to intervene just to spite Zenshi, but he couldn’t bring himself to. Two obstacles had just been removed, and his partner was turning out to be better than he’d thought. The plan was working. But why did Virgo offer to help?

Just then two arms planted onto Kazue, picking him up, and then oddly hugging around him.

“Sorry about bumping into you there,” Zane whispered.

“Haha, don’t worry about it man,” Kazue awkwardly laughed back.

“I’ll be honest, I was kinda hoping you’d knock me out. That Lita chick is bossing me around like I’m some kind of servant. Yeah, she’s hot, but I’m not going to just take orders from somebody.”

“Oh, hey why don’t we work together for now,” Kazue added quickly. “I don’t like Zenshi either actually. Dude gives me the creeps.”

“Really?” Zane smirked. “Pretend we didn’t talk, and we can work it out later.”

Zane then faked a punch, which Kazue easily dodged, and rejoined Zenshi.

If Zane and Virgo were willing to help him, then he had a decent chance now of disposing Zenshi.

Elsewhere on the other side of the ring, team 1 started to flex and taunt the other teams.

Neji Edd from team 5 approached the members of team 1, and flexed back. Though not as big as team 1’s members, the display was still impressive.

“THEY’RE STARING EACH OTHER DOWN!” Tsunami yelled.

Bosco interlocked his arms with Neji, and the two began to wrestle competitively, each attempting takedown moves, but countering each other perfectly. Nobody was willing to budge.

Yuka then ran up to join, and together with her partner Bosco, they lifted Neji up into the air for a massive suplex, slamming Neji back down.

They each flexed over his body to the applause of the fans.

Virgo pressed his fingers against the square by his ear for a moment, and whispered something. Then, out of nowhere he abruptly charged across the ring at Bosco to avenge his teammate, yet before he could reach Neji, his legs were taken out from beneath as he was tripped up by Zenshi.

“You!” Virgo muttered, and quickly stood back up, but it was too late. Bosco and Yuka sprung over to him, and picked him up easily.

“NO!” Neji shouted, grasping at Virgo’s right foot, trying to keep him down.

Kazue made his move.

Sprinting to join Neji, Kazue grasped at Virgo’s left foot.

Each party yanked back and forward until Virgo’s left foot was ripped off entirely with a crunch, now in Kazue’s hand, revealing circuitry and wires that had once been a part of his metal foot.

Without Kazue to hold on, Neji lost his grip, and Virgo was tossed over the ropes and outside the ring. However, before anything else could happen, Zane rushed over, and with all his weight he slammed into Bosco, knocking Bosco through the ropes, and outside next to Virgo as well.

“A DOUBLE ELIMINATION!” Tsunami shouted with exhubious joy.

“Virgo Umigata from team 5, and Bosco Taiden from team 1 have both been eliminated,” the calm voice announced.

The crowd went nuts.

4 competitors were gone, 6 still remained, and only two teams still had both members.

“Zane!” Lita yelled. She hadn’t moved since the start of the match, leaning against one of the four corners. “That wasn’t part of the plan! You’re supposed to be over here, protecting me!”

“Yeah? Well I changed my mind!” Zane laughed back at her. “You’re on your own!”

“How dare you!” Lita said back.

In the midst of the confusion, Yuka impressively picked up Zane, pressing him up above her head.

“You’re mighty strong ma’am, and I must say the view is pretty nice up here. Maybe we could go around the city like this together,” Zane laughed, attempting to bargain.

Kazue dropped Virgo’s metal foot, and with Neji, pulled Zane back down to the ground.

Then, with the strength displayed earlier, Neji grappled Yuka, and suplexed her onto the map with the help of Kazue and Zane. As she was dazed, they were able to swiftly roll her out of the ring through the bottom rope.

“ANOTHER ELIMINATION!” Tsunami roared.

“Yuka Tedo from team 1 has been eliminated. Team 1 has now been fully eliminated,” the familiar announcer calmly declared.

Kazue, Zane, and Neji stood together on one side, while Lita and Zenshi stood opposite. Even with 5 members remaining, the results were as unpredictable as ever.

Neji bent down to pick up Virgo’s metal foot, examining it in his hands. He looked outside the ring to where Virgo was sitting patiently, and smiled.

“Make me another one of those when our team wins,” Virgo told him, to which Neji nodded back.

With Virgo’s metal foot in his right hand, Neji’s visors returned around his eyes, and he scanned Lita.

“Like what you see?” she grinned.

Neji held a thumbs up, then in a moment’s notice tossed the foot like a tomahawk, but not at Lita, but rather at Zenshi, completely catching Zenshi off guard.

The foot smacked his face full of hair, then bounced out the ring, with great force, causing him to kneel down in pain as he covered himself.

“A SURPRISING DEVELOPMENT!” Tsunami yelled. “IT’S TOTALLY LEGAL!”

Neji turned to Kazue, and nodded.

Is that what Virgo had meant by “our team”? Why was Kazue agreeing? Did he have such a burning hatred for Zenshi he was willing to toss out his own partner? But if Kazue won, Zenshi would be back anyway, because it was a team game. What was the point?

Maybe it was when Zenshi told Kazue the plan moments before the game began.

Kazue would be a distraction. He would take the punishments, while Zenshi silently eliminated everyone in the background. It was a foolproof way of working together, but not as friends, and yet it still bothered him.

Zenshi got here with Kazue’s help. It was only fitting that Kazue would be the one to send him out, and win alone.

Finally, Kazue instinctively ran to the prone man, yet before he could reach Zenshi, Lita casually strolled in front of his path.

“Sorry hun, this one is mine,” she simply said, and crossed her arms.

Kazue motioned for her to move politely, then became quickly impatient.

“GET OUT OF MY DAMN WAY!” he finally shouted, putting his hands on her hips to forcibly move her. Now was his chance.

Out from behind him, Zane’s hands clapped against his ears, stunning Kazue, which Lita soon followed up on by kicking up into Kazue’s crotch, sending pain shooting up his legs.

She leaned over his body and passionately kissed Zane, who had also been leaning to meet her lips.

Kazue was betrayed.

Together they rolled Kazue outside the ring as he held his manhood. Not even Neji could stop them.

“Kazue Kinoskue of team 4 has be-”

“WOW! A STUNNING MOMENT, BOTH FOR KAZUE, AND FOR THE CROWD! WE’RE DOWN TO THE FINAL FOUR!” Tsunami shouted over the announcement.

The arena suddenly went black, leaving only the ring lit up in radiant blue lighting.

Drumming, accompanied by a steady synth beat, echoed, intensifying the moment.

Team Nagata was ready to run out and check on Kazue, however, a barrier prevented them from leaving their dugout, along with all dugouts. They would have to wait until the end of the match.

Representing team 2 were Lita Takeda, and Zane Hojo.

Representing team 4 was Zenshi Mizuno.

Representing team 5 was Neji Edd.

Which team would win?
