Chapter 7:

Look, I've Made It!

Seeking Utopia

Upon returning back home, they find Sonata; Kai’s twin sister, sitting in the living room reading a book with a cup of tea next to her. As Kai and Rain walk in, she looks up and greets them. “Congrats both of you! How was your day?” She asks. “It was alright, but more importantly-“ He holds the Cyglider up, “got this fixed!”

“Ah, that rusty toy…”

“It’s not rusty. And it’s definitely not a toy!” Kai says in an annoyed tone.

“You are not planning on using it during your patrols as a Ranger-are you?”

“I am actually.”

“What? Just get a new one.”

“Listen, I have tried other models. None of them come close to this one. It’s the best one for me. Hence why I’m sticking with it.” He explains firmly.

Sonata sighs then turns to Rain, “Well how about you? How was your day?”

Rain yawns, “I’m tired…. How was your day Sonata?”

“Nothing new yet, just a lot of work as usual. But anyways, you do seem very tired, please go rest.”

Kai places his Cyglider in his room then heads to his parents room. The door was closed, he stood in front of it for a few seconds. He was debating on whether it is a good time to share the news with his father or not. He knocks the door eventually and walks in. Dr. Griffin was sitting on his desk as usual. He was always sketching and writing random things on his notebook. Kai stood next to him, his father still hadn’t noticed him coming in. Kai scanned the desk and shelves with his eyes. He remembered how his father used to be very passionate about his work; working even when he got back home. Despite what happened to his mind, his body still seems to remember how he always sat on that desk during this time, researching and taking notes on his notebook. The thought was bittersweet, Kai smiled while looking at his father.

“Dad, I’m home. Do you have a second?”

Dr. Griffin seemed to have noticed him now, he stopped what he was doing and looked to his side.

“Sorry if I interrupted you. I just wanted to let you know that Rain and I have officially become rangers now.”

His father did not react, he simply went back to his work.

Although Kai knew that he was not going to get a response, he still felt disappointed. He continued regardless, “Sadly we were not in the same team, not even with mom. But my team seems great! We had some training today, they were kind of impressed with our team’s performance.” His father still didn’t respond. Kai looked down and sighed. “Anyways, I’ll get going now, it was a long day. Have a good evening.” He continued sketching something even after Kai left.
