Chapter 4:

Fulgor versus Auron

Ex-High Schooler Hero

Kazen was almost fired for return with Fulgor all soaked by the storm, and Fulgor got a suspension. In the end, the assistant teacher was happy with the results and waited patiently for the return of Fulgor when he could finally win against Auron.

When Fulgor returned the class was playing soccer in the gym. Lapis always excelled in sports and was comfortable playing with the others. To Fulgor it was a pleasure to see Lapis win against everybody in soccer, but today he had a special mission.

Once again, he pointed to Auron in front of everybody.

“Your days of being a jerk are over, today is the day I defeat you once and from all.”

All the students remain silent waiting to see the action of Auron. The boy did not appeared threatened by Fulgor.

“What are you going to do? Dumb me to death?”

“That does not even make sense!” Protested Fulgor, but Auron was still posing as superior.

“After high school I will go to Fujin Academy and become the best lawyer in the world. Of course with your grades you can’t even get close to the Fujin Academy. Most colleges, to tell the truth. I have already won in life.”

Like knives, the words hurt Fulgor, he knew he could not go to a good college, but he did not care that much, he was at peace with that, just did not want everybody to think he was a loser.

“I haven’t decided what I will do! There is a lot I wanted to do, this world is too big to be trapped in one thing only!”

“Spoke like a true loser, now let’s play this game.”

In the benches, Kazen watched everything intently and he could not explain at that time, but what Fulgor said about being trapped hit a nerve.

What happened next was the most intense soccer game any of the kids ever saw. Fulgor and Auron ignored all other students and played with just one another.

Both were super fast, wind on the legs of Auron made him fast, and Fulgor did similar with lighting in his feet. The ball was attacked by kicks of gust and sparks, even so the match was balanced. One always stole the ball of the other before any could score a point.

The match escalated when Auron kicked a small tornado in the direction of Fulgor that made him spin as the wind elemental scored the first goal.

“No fair!” Said Fulgor when he recovered balance.

“So that is your excuse now? You really are pathetic.”

Lighting came out of Fulgor’s hands, almost hitting Auron. Noticing what was happening the gym teacher tried to stop, but he could not even get close with all the wind and lighting coming out.

Auron kicked the ball with a whirlwind that accelerated it even more. The ball hit Fulgor in the chest, making him fall to the ground.

Instead of helping the teacher, Kazen shouted tips to Fulgor.

“Use the release, Fulgor!”

Hearing that made Auron nervous as he watched more sparks coming out of Fulgor.

“So, you cheated to learn a new ability!”

“That is your excuse now? You really are pathetic.” Fulgor was feeling really cool by stealing Auron’s phrase against him.

Preparing to return the ball full of electricity, all the sparks disappeared and Fulgor fell to the ground without power.

The storm inside subsided and Auron approached the rival stealing the ball from him.

“Even cheating you can’t win, as usual.”

He dropped the ball that fell to Fulgor’s face as Kazen approached.

“What happened?” Ask him helping the boy to stand up.

“I don’t know. I did everything the same, but the power did not appeared”

Kazen hold his chin pensative.

“I guess your body is still not ready to enter the first release. I think you need more storms.”

The boy could not even get nervous with that idea. His mind was trapped with all that Auron said and he felt bad for losing again.

When the class was over everyone went out, except Kazen, who was responsible for cleaning the gym after the fight, a chore that took most of his day.

After he finished, the classes were already over and he did not expect to see any of the students. However, on the entrance of the school, he saw Auron looking to the ground as a man scolded him.

The man looked like an adult version of Auron. Short black hair, a beautiful suit and a pompous mustache.

“Just 97%? You think Fujin Academy will accept that?”

“I am sorry dad; I will do better next time.” It was surprising seeing Auron in that state.

“You better! I do not accept anything but perfection.”

Kazen decided not to approach. Auron entered the fancy car of his dad and went off as rain started to pour. The elemental thought of entering the third release so he could arrive at his house sooner and not get wet.

When he was ready to do that, he heard a voice.

“Are you still here?”

Loretta, still wearing her librarian outfit, approached holding an umbrella with cat ears.

“Yes, I had to do a little overtime. And you?”

“I always go home this time. Do you not have an umbrella?”

She noticed he was carrying just a backpack.

“Yeah, you know, I can evaporate the rain around me, so it is not a big deal.”

“Oh yeah, you are a super big hero.” It was not hard to note the sarcasm in her voice. “Well, I guess I don’t need to offer a space under my umbrella then.”

She started to walk without saying goodbye, making Kazen conflicted. On one hand he wanted to show that she was wrong about him, but on the other she made him feel bad for being what he was.

In the end he just watched Loretta going away as he was hit by countless rain drops.
