Chapter 16:

Loss

One Step To Hell

The conversation between Yumi and Yoshiyuki continued.

“What do you mean by losing a lot of things?” asked Yumi.

“I'm going to tell you a little about my past...” said Yoshiyuki.

About twenty years ago, about ten families lived in a small forest. That small forest was said to be sacred as it had a huge amount of magic around it. Most children born in that forest were blessed with more magic than usual. It was in this forest that a child lived with his older brother and his parents, Yoshiyuki Ishii.

Yoshiyuki had nothing to complain about his life. He loved the forest where he lived, he loved his family, especially his brother, and he got along extremely well with the other families in the forest.

“Brother, when I'm your age I want to be strong like you.” said Yoshiyuki.

“And you will be, Yoshiyuki. After all, you're training with the best, aren't you?” said Yoshiyuki's brother.

*Guffaws*

Yoshiyuki and the rest of the forest members didn't know that their lives would very soon be at risk.

One morning, Yoshiyuki woke up with several screams. He looked around the house for his brother and parents, but they didn't seem to be there.

In the forest, everything was on fire. The positive magic of that place became negative magic.

“Looks like the child isn't here...” said a hooded man.

“Yes, let's go.” said another hooded man.

The two hooded men who had caused all that destruction withdrew.

Yoshiyuki decided to leave the house to look for his family, but...

As soon as he left, he saw several bodies covered in blood. He was terrified and sickened, but the strongest feeling in him at that moment was worry. Where were your brother and his parents.

Yoshiyuki walked through the rubble and flames, until he found the body of his father and mother. They were dead. He tried to hold back the crying, but he couldn't. A little hope was still with him. His brother might still be alive, they could start from scratch together, but...

“Yoshi...yuki...” said a finished voice.

Yoshiyuki started running towards the voice. The person calling his name was his brother. However, his brother was next to a tree, but he was badly injured.

“Br...brother...” said Yoshiyuki as he cried in despair.

“Yoshiyuki... Listen... carefully.” said his brother.

Yoshiyuki tried to control his crying to hear his brother's last words.

“Who caused this destruction... were two men... they were looking for you. They couldn't find you because I used a spell to “mask” your aura.”

“But what did they want from me?”

“I don't know… but… Yoshiyuki, you have to go on with your life alone. Never stop anywhere. Travel around the kingdom constantly... they will have a harder time finding you.”

“But how am I going to manage to survive on my own?” asked Yoshiyuki.

“Yoshiyuki... You're strong, after all you're my brother...”

“BROTHER!” shouted in despair Yoshiyuki.

“Yoshiyuki... I love you...”

Yoshiyuki's brother ended up dying. Yoshiyuki spent the rest of that day without posture.

A few months later, Yoshiyuki arrived in the capital. He overheard some citizens talking about an event that would choose new members for the Knights of Redon.

Yoshiyuki participated in the event. The event was attended by King Victor and the Captains of that time. He was the best participant of the event and became a member of the Knights of Redon.

Five years later, Yoshiyuki and his friends from the Knights of Redon were summoned by the king himself.

King Victor said it was a very complicated mission. They would have to stop a group that was attacking near the northern part of the kingdom. All agreed to carry out the mission given by the king of the kingdom himself.

In less than a week, Yoshiyuki returned to the capital. He went straight to the king's castle. He entered without permission and the castle guards tried to restrict his sudden entry.

“DISAPPEAR!” shouted Yoshiyuki angrily.

“Let him in, gentlemen.” said King Victor that he had just arrived at the throne room.

The guards let Yoshiyuki through. King Victor sat down on his throne. When he was going to ask Yoshiyuki what was going on, Yoshiyuki launched a magic bolt towards the king. The magic bolt grazed the left side of King Victor's head.

The guards prepared to attack Yoshiyuki, but the king raised his hand in wait.

“Yoshiyuki, what is all this anger for?” asked King Victor.

“DON'T BE A FOOL!!! YOU SENT US ON A SUICIDE MISSION!!!” shouted Yoshiyuki angrily once again.

“Suicide mission? But wasn't it obvious?”

“DON'T PLAY WITH ME!!! EVERYONE DIED, I WAS THE ONLY SURVIVOR!!!”

King Victor leaned forward and said:

“It's really a shame, but you were the ones who accepted it, you could have rejected it.”

Yoshiyuki turned his back on the king and said:

“As of today, I cease to be a Knight of Redon...”

“If you wish...”

“So you no longer belong to the Knights of Redon?” asked Yumi.

“No, at least officially.” replied Yoshiyuki.

“You told me that I would be strong if I lost a lot of things, did you mean I need to lost people dear to me like you?”

“Not exactly...”

“I didn't understand.”

“My life after leaving the Knights of Redon has improved, but temporarily. I met and lost the person I loved the most in my entire life.”

“Wasn't it your brother and your parents?”

“Yes, but this person I met was very important to me too. It was she who brought light back into my life.”

“May I know who it was?”

“I'm going to tell you a little more about my past and let you know the woman who gave light to my life again. Her name was Yuki...”

“Yuki?”

Who will be Yuki? Is Yoshiyuki talking about the spirit that accompanies him?
