Chapter 16:

Chapter 16

Hanabi of the Steel Curtain

The four girls were now standing outside, in the fog. Their comms weren’t working properly, there was some kind of interference preventing them from communicating with the others. But what really had her worried was the cut connection. Even the system in place to port weapons from Bell’s storage to their hands wasn’t working.

Sofia sighed, “anyone manage to get in contact with the others?”

They all shook their heads in response. Which only seemed to make Sofia more agitated. She clapped her hands together and sighed. “Okay, so, best case scenario this is just some bad weather. However, for the time being, we’ll treat this like an enemy attack. And we can’t do anything without information.”

She pointed at Mariposa, “Our first priority is to get a line of communications in, link up with Irene and tell her to find a solution. And be careful, because you’ll be on your own.”

Mariposa cautiously saluted, “Haven’t really had a solo mission in a while.”

Sofia then pointed at HK, Naomi, and Oryn. “You two, protect the VIP and get him out of here.”

“Wait a minute!” Oryn stepped forward. “Why am I the one who has to leave? Wouldn’t it make more sense for me to stay put?”

“You’re too much of a liability right now, and I can’t protect you, the representatives, and the building by myself. Besides, if comms are down for us there’s no way yours will work. I’m sure you have a means of warning the town in case of emergencies, so these two are going to escort you there. Any further question?” Sofia heard no objections from anyone. “Alright, fan out, don’t die, and remember your jobs. Get going!”
