Chapter 6: Investigation

Our heroes had set off upon the crater through the jungle and out into a clearing. In this clearing was some desert and this giant hole generated via an explosion. The sheer size of it left in the wake of Vergil’s attack was devastating. As Ryu, Spider-Man, and our other heroes made it to this hole they were dumbfounded.

“What sort of power could have left this?” Ryu solemnly asked.

Amaterasu barked. Something wicked! Were the meaning behind her words yet no one seemed to understand her. She started squealing like a dog before putting her head down. Missing her home as she wept.

“I’ll try and take a closer look. Figure out what happened here.” Chun-Li said.

The Wasp shrunk down smaller before saying “I’ll help.”

The Wasp flew off into the crater as Chun-Li began sweeping the perimeter. Bruce Banner decided he’d head in with Chun-Li in case he had to identify any chemical properties or reactions that may have caused the explosion. In the meantime Ryu walked up to the hole and began observing the dirt and sand as Spidey walked in from behind. Watching as Ryu observed the soil diligently.

“Uh… You have no idea what you’re looking for do you?” Spider-Man asked.

Ryu looked up at Spidey with a confident smile before giving him a thumbs up. He then balled up his hand into a fist.

“Not a clue.” Ryu then said.

Spider-Man scratched his head through his mask. “We’re just a bunch of regular detectives aren’t we? Hopefully one of us figure out what’s going on here.” He said.

“We will. We have to. If we’re to stop whatever made this from doing it again.” Ryu told him as Spider-Man nodded in agreement.

It was then as Chun-Li checked the perimeter and Bruce followed her that she began to observe the hole itself. It looked unusual. It was clean. As if it had been neatly carved out. Like someone took an ice cream scoop and carved out this section of earth with it. One neat scoop.

“What kind of explosion could have made a crater like this?” Chun asked.

“A nuclear explosion maybe? But this would be a small nuke…” Banner told her. “And I know it wasn’t the Hulk this time!” He laughed.

Only a few feet into this crater Amaterasu was sniffing around and digging. Wasp took notice of this and flew in to get a better look. As dirt kicked up from the beasts feet she still managed to keep her glowing red & white coat shining. *Bark!*

“What is it girl? You find something?”

The Wasp looked down at around where she was sniffing. Utilizing her small stature she flew in real close to get an even better look. Once she was down there she saw it. A very small nearly microscopic sliver of metallic red paint. It was her friends, Iron-Man.

“This is from Tony’s suit?” The Wasp noted. “Hey guys! Come check this out!”

The others all rushed over. Ryu, Spidey, Chun, and Bruce.

“Find anything?” Asked Bruce.

“This paint… I think it’s from Tony’s suit.”

“What? Tony? Do you have any idea where he might have gone?”

“No…”

“Maybe Amaterasu can sniff him out?” Chun-Li said as Spidey looked at her.

“Well she’s no greyhound but… maybe.”

“No that’s a good idea. She’s the one who found it in the first place.” Said Wasp.

Amaterasu barked as if she could understand the humans. *Bark! Bark!* I’ll lead the way! She yelped. Despite not understanding her our heroes were starting to get the sense that she could understand them. And with that they followed her as she began running into the direction of Iron-Man’s scent.

As they got a move on there was a figure hiding in the darkness. Observing the group, but not really all of them. He was more enamored with one of them. The one dressed in red and blue. Spider-Man. It was after they’d left the crater that this figure revealed himself. He licked his jagged teeth with his long winding tongue.

“We’s got ourselves a SPIDER to hunt!” He yelled with a growling voice. Evil and angry with a human’s voice laying faintly behind his. “Are yee ready EDDIE?!” Said Venom (The Avengers).
