Chapter 3:

Aroma's past

Bitter-Sweet

Tina was shocked to see Alethea making breakfast in the kitchen today.

"Why are you here?", she asked her.

"Why am I where? Oh, in the kitchen. Just to make breakfast", she said.

"And why is that?", she asked her. "I didn't even assign you your tasks. So then why?".

"Can't I just make food for the people I'm gonna live with?", she said while frying an egg.

And that was the end of their conversation.

"Can anyone guess who made breakfast today?", Alethea asked the girls at the breakfast table.

"Obviously Tina because she's so good at cooking", Kayla answered.

"It's not me. It's her", Tina corrected her.

"What?", Aroma asked, "But why? You don't even know the day you have to cook on?".

"Just because I wanted to", she answered them.

Later in the evening, at approximately seven PM, Aroma saw Alethea out alone in the lawn, reading a book.

"What are you reading?", she asked her, sitting down next to her.

"A good book", she replied.

"And what's a good book like?", Aroma asked her.

"Something only good people can understand. So it's not for you", she said smiling.

Though she herself didn't know why she smiled at Aroma.

"You've been acting weird today, Alethea", she told her, "Are you alright?".

"Who? Me? I'm all good", she said, with a beaming smile.

"What the hell are you smiling at?", she said at last, losing her cool.

"Oh, at you", she replied.

"A..at me?", she said, confused.

"Yeah. Thought you needed it, you know. Because you lost your father", she said.

"Wh..who told you that?". Aroma asked her, tears coming to her eyes.

She blinked back her tears.

"Nobody. Don't you remember, we all went to the same elementary school and you lost your dad in the first year of elementary? Oh, you poor thing", she said.

"Are you pitying me? Who do you think you are, bitch?", she said and was about to slap her but someone stopped them.

It was Angelina.
