Group mission

Instructor Lu walked over to Lan Du with a stern expression, he stared at her eye to eye, Lan Du had grown much taller so now she was almost as tall as he was.

"How long have you been working here for, why has the academy not been informed of this" He asked fiercely, he glared at Lan Du as if he would eat her.

Lan Du shrugged her shoulders

"I just started 2 years ago" Lan Du replied

Instructor Lu calmed down a bit more after hearing that, if she started before that, then that'll spell trouble. But he still glared at her with a deathly look.

"Then why have you not informed the academy, being a mercenary is a dangerous task, some seniors of the academy has died being on" He said coldly

Lan Du rolled her eyes

"Does it really matter at this point? Anyway, pass the badges to the rest of the students, me being a mercenary isn't a bad thing anyway, after all..." Lan Du smirked at the others around her

"These pathetic excuse of a fighter doesn't even dare to cross me"

Instructor Lu took in a deep breath

"Fine, then what is your rank" He asked

Lan Du scratched the side of her face and shifted her eyes.

"Well, ah, I just remembered, I already took a mission so I need to go now, bye" Lan Du turned her head and dashed out the guild.

Seeing her run off, instructor Lu was speechless as to what he should do at this point. He didn't expect Lan Du to already be a mercenary. He handed out the lowest ranking badges to all the students. Furthermore, he himself had a tiger rank badge.

"Since there are only about a dozen of us, we can take a group mission, there aren't much on planet escort missions but the ones that we can access are low ranked so it's good for gaining experience" He chose to ignore Lan Du for now as it would delay the learning process.

When instructor Lu tried to take a mission, he was stopped by a man.

"Sir, I can see that you have quite a few low ranked mercenaries with you, I wouldn't recommend doing this mission, but if you take me along with you, I can help out if things get troublesome" The man had a gentle look and gave a positive impression.

"Who are you?" Instructor Lu asked

The man smiled

"I'm Guan Ye, a dragon ranked mercenary, my little brother graduated from your academy, and I am also acquaintances with Xiao Mo, he helped me out greatly in some of my missions, even saved my life a few times" He smiled and said.

When he said Xiao Mo, instructor Lu knew he meant Lan Du, after all, she used the same nickname as in the virtual world.

He still gave Guan Ye a strange look, but after talking to him more, he found him to be trustworthy as he is someone who Lan Du knew quite well. He knew Lan Du wasn't the type to make friends with people who would not benefit her, so he decided to trust Lan Du's instincts.

"What rank is Xiao Mo in now?" He asked curiously

Guan Ye sighed bitterly

"Xiao Mo is just too much of a monster, I don't wish to compare..." He said in a depressing 

manner, as if he was about to cry from grief.

Instructor Lu was confused

"Why? Is he in tiger rank already?" He asked

Guan Ye smiled bitterly and shook his head

"What tiger rank? He was able to beat tiger ranks like dogs the moment he joined, he's already in dragon rank, but even so, I don't dare spar with him" Guan Ye was now like a sad child, if he was a rabbit, his ears would be drooping down right now.

"What!" Instructor Lu was shocked

'He is already so strong? Our academy truly cannot hold onto him for long, it seems that brat has grown, he's already surpassed me long ago'

The students behind didn't know what they were talking about, but from instructor Lu's expression, Lan Du's expression wasn't simple.

Qui Shan walked over

"Instructor, is there a problem with Lan Du's rank?

Instructor Lu shook his head

"No, don't ask too much questions" He said and reached out his hand to Guan Ye.

"We will be in your care for this mission" He said lightly, Guan Ye nodded and accepted the mission under his name.

Instructor Lu then sent the information through everyone's bracelet, and at this moment, Lan Du, who everyone though already ran off walked back in.

She ran to the receptionist and slammed her hand on the table

"Cancel all my missions immediately! Renew my mercenary certificate if you have to, just cancel them all!" She almost shouted, and her breath was heavy.

Everyone was shocked, after all, her mercenary rank was a dragon ranked, and she was even willing to renew it? What happened for her to make such a drastic decision?

The receptionist nodded and cancelled her missions, after seeing that they were removed from her list, she let out a sigh of relief.

"La-Xiao mo, did something happen?" Instructor Lu asked

Lan Du panted

"I was almost forced into a marriage, one of the mission I accepted gave a very good reward, so I took it without reading it too carefully, I only saw that I needed to fight a few brats who wanted to marry the young miss of a family, who would have thought they'd try to force a marriage certificate onto me, thank goodness I ran fast" Lan Du wiped her sweat and huffed.

Instructor Lu raised an eyebrow

"In just a few minutes of disappearing, you almost got yourself married?" He gave her a questionable look and Lan Du nodded her head.

His body began trembling and Lan Du saw him holding back his laughter

Lan Du rolled her eyes

"Whatever, let me join in on the mission, since I just cancelled all my missions, I don't have anywhere I need to go anymore, eh Guan Ye, you're here as well? How's your left leg" Lan Du asked, but her last few words expressed great malice whilst she had a sadistic smile on her face.

Guan Ye shrunk back

"I-I'm fine"He said quietly, his voice was tiny and almost impossible to hear.

Lan Du chuckled

"Why do you show so much fear? I won't eat you" Lan Du snickered and waved her handSeeing this, instructor Lu quickly stopped her from talking and turned to Xie Jing and Xie Ying.

"Manage your boyfriend properly, don't let him cause too much trouble" He said and tossed her to the twins, Lan Du was taken aback by his words.

"What do you mean, if anyone's going to do the managing, it'll be me managing my adorable 

little pumpkins" Lan Du said as she expressed her dissatisfaction.

When she said this, the students and instructor Lu stared at her with a strange gaze, unable to comprehend her thinking process.

"Just shut up, we're leaving, the employer is currently waiting on us" He shook his head helplessly and said.

Lan Du stretched her arms and yawned, as she followed them out, a woman walked over, her expression was somewhat annoyed as she walked closer. Her face seemed quite young and she still gave off a somewhat immature aura.

Lan Du saw her and her eyes widened, she hid behind Xie Jing and Xie Ying which took them by surprise.

"L-Xiao Mo, do you know her?" They asked

Lan Du nodded

The girl saw Lan Du and her eyes lit up, but she then puffed her cheeks.

"Why did you suddenly cancel the task? Do you know how long I waited for you" She cried out

Everyone's eyes suddenly landed on Lan Du

Lan Du tucked her head back

"You're already 23, why do I still need to tutor you, I've already taught you 4 different sports, 2 different languages and also 3 defensive methods, what more do you want from me, your father also would skin me alive if he sees me again" Lan Du shouted

The girl was Fei Fei, she tucked her lips

"Why would my father be involved in this?"

"I just scammed him of 2 bottles of spirit dew why wouldn't he be involved" Lan Du replied

Her words shocked everyone

"S-Scammed?" Fei Fei was baffled

"Of course, your classes were meant to end a long time ago, yet you forcibly extended it, I don't take losses so of course I needed some extra benefits" Lan Du said hurriedly

Fei Fei almost tripped

"How did you even convince him to give you spirit dew in the first place? Even I only get a bit every year" She asked curiously

"I threatened him with your studies, as his dearest daughter, of course he complied" Lan Du said with a proud look in her eyes.

Just as Fei Fei was about to continue, Xie Jing and Xie Ying turned around, grabbed Lan Du's ears and pulled her head down to their level.

"Who's she and what's your relationship with her" They questioned

Lan Du smiled

"Oh, are you two jealous? So sweet" Lan Du chuckled and said with a light smile, but the twins glared at her and pulled harder.

"If you really want to hurt someone by pulling their ears, you can apply a 180º twist and pull at a 90º angle downwards" Lan Du said as if she was a professional in this field.

The students around as well as instructor Lu and Guan Ye had the same thoughts in their heads which was:

'Why do you even know that?'

Xie Jing and Xie Ying did as they were told and pulled harder, but Lan Du's expression remained unchanged.

"Naturally, that only works on people who aren't used to pain, I've even broken my bones numerous times, why would this affect me? As for that lass, she's Fei Fei, I became her tutor some time ago and she wouldn't let me stop" Lan Du sighed and said.

Fei Fei puffed her cheeks

"If you don't take up the task again, I'll reveal it" She said, what she meant was Lan Du's gender.

Lan Du laughed

"Lass, I've tutored you for so long, do you think I don't know your character, if I was in danger of you revealing it, I'd have scammed your father for more than just a few measly spirit dews" 

Lan Du chuckled

Fei Fei stomped her feet

"Fine, you win" She said as she stormed off.

Lan Du sighed, but many eyes still laid upon her. Instructor Lu chopped down with his hand upon her head.

"You're a playboy to the core, aren't you? Who is that lass" He asked sternly

Lan Du tucked her lips

"CEO Lin's daughter" Lan Du replied casually

"What!" Her words stunned everyone, who wouldn't know who CEO Lin is? He was one of the biggest tycoons in China! Apart from a few riavling companies, very few even dares to mention him!

"What? Who else do you think I can scam out so much spirit dew?" Lan Du asked as if it is pure logic

When she turned her head, she saw Xie Jing and Xie Ying glaring at her like there was no tomorrow, Lann Du lifted both hands and placed it on their heads.

"Were you two always this easy to get riled up? I could have sworn you two were more tolerant as kids...no, wait, forget I said that" Lan Du mumbled and rubbed their heads.

The two gave her a kick on her legs, though she didn't show much despite it. She turned to Instructor Lu whilst the two pounded her back with their fists.

"We should get going, last time I was late for a mission, I had to pay a fine of 1 million" Lan Du said lightly, the moment the words left her mouth, instructor Lu immediately had everyone leave.

Lan Du chuckled, she turned around and grabbed Xie Jing and Xie Ying, she wrapped her arms around their waist and lightly giggled.

"Lass, hit me enough yet? If you're still jealous, how about I give the two of you a kiss?" Lan Du asked sweetly as she leaned down.

The two nodded

Lan Du was dazed as she sighed

"Where did my innocent angels go?" She muttered, she missed their shy expressions as she teased them, but after so many years, he guessed that they got used to it.

But she didn't notice that their ears were red and they hid it well.

Lan Du glanced forward and they soon exited the city, outside were several vehicles lined up, a man walked up to them.

"You must be the new group that took on the escort mission, this won't be long, only 1 day, but are these kids even ready?" The man questioned as he stared at the group of young adults.

Instructor Lu nodded

"Even if they don't have experience in dangerous situations, in fights, they can still hold their own grounds" He said with certainty.

The man then saw Guan Ye and his eyes lit up

"You must be the one leading, please to meet you, I'm your employer's butler, the mission shouldn't be too dangerous, but there are still people after his life so I hope you can stay close to him" He said respectfully

Lan Du stood by the side, she didn''t say anything as she found it boring. She yawned and entered one of the vehicles while waiting. She had already took off her mask but she was wearing a skin mask so even some of the students didn't know who she was until they checked who was missing.

"That kid looks arrogant, is it alright to leave my life in his hands?" A man walked out the front car and pointed at Lan Du with an uncertain expression, he had a chubby body but he wasn't short so it made his chubby figure less obvious.

Guan Ye patted his chest

"No worries, he doesn't need to do anything with me here anyways" His words made himm sound confident, but it was more so that he knew Lan Du's skills too well.

He knew Lan Du wouldn't be bothered so he just placed all trust in himself.

"Alright, stay close, my life isn't cheap" He said impatiently and goot back into the car.

Lan Du yawned and closed her eyes, she seemed rather carefree and didn't take this mission seriously at all. Her acrefree actions incurred the anger of the employer, he glared at Lan Du and trembled.

"How can I feel at ease when someone like him is by my side" He roared

Lan Du glanced at him, she didn't expect the random car she picked to be the one where her employer would be seated in. On the other side, Guan Ye sat there quietly.

Lan Du ignored his angry roars and just looked outside where the students were getting in to different vehicles one after another.

"Are you ignoring me! I can just void you of all rewards if I'm unsatisfied" He shouted

Lan Du sighed"Go ahead, I'm here cause I'm bored anyways, your rewards are small so there is no appeal to me, a few illion dollars, what can I do with that? Buy myself some snacks?" Lan Du said nonchalantly, she has earned close to billions of dollars from how many missions she has teken already, a few million means nothing to her.

Rather, she spends millions a month just for the best environment for her mother, she wanted her to sleep in a peaceful environment where she can slowly recover.

"You!" The employer got even angrier, he was close to blowing his top.Lan Du glanced outside, the cars had started moving, but all she could hear was her employer's constant nagging and roars. It went on for close to an hour when she finally got pissed.

"Shut up or I'll throw you out myself" Lan Du said coldly

The man scoffed and grew angrier

"Who do you think you are! I'm the one hiring you! Not the other way around!" He shouted at the top of his lungs, his face was red from anger and his eyes were almost bloodshot.

Lan Du sighed, no longer bothered to argue, she just leaned on the side of the car and looked out the window. She blocked out all noise from the man beside her, she just stared aimlessly into the changing landscape around her.

Seeing her now ignore him, the man was about to get physical when Guan Ye stopped him.

"Sir, it's best to remain calm in this situation, if there are enemy attacks, it would make it harder to protect you" Guan Ye said lightly

Lan Du gave Guan Ye a grateful look before turning back outside, she took out a mirrow and glanced at it, the mirrow reflected her face as she look at it.

When the man saw her looking in a small mirror, he almost said "Queer" out loud when Lan Du grabbed him by his head and pushed it down into the seat.

"What the hell are-"

Then a gunshot was heard, followed by glass breaking and a hole appeared on the seat in front of the man. Sweat began rolling down his face, if Lan Du hadn't pushed his head down, he would have died right at that moment.

Lan Du unbelted herself and crawled through the gap to the front seat, she unbuckled the driver and tossed him to the side seat. She then sat down and took out a lilipop.

"Hold onto your seats, the road is about to get bumpy" Lan Du grinned and pressed her feet on the pedal. The car suddenly accelerated and turned in strange directions.------------------
