Trying to ignore what I was capable of may have been a mistake. When I let myself out, and make good use of the body my father gave me, the world looks so different. For one, I could actually see beyond the third dimension of objects. I guess he wasn’t lying about that after all. Seeing visual objects overlap was one thing, but seeing how they fold and wrap? Wild! But that was just a distraction.

What I loved the most was that I could smell Nai-bu, but not just as an odor. I could see phantoms of three dimensional footsteps of places she had been in the house. At first, it was overwhelming, but once I learned to understand what was happening, it became so alluring. Trying to chase these phantoms around my house, hoping to find the one that would lead me to where she went, was absolutely thrilling! And not just because I could bite into them and catch the faintest taste, but because I could see her in so many ways and places at once.

The biggest inconvenience here was my size. When I was a kid, my head was massive when I transformed, and it was honestly embarrassing. But now? I could feel that I was big, but I was much longer, and could probably crawl into some tightish spaces. I just need to figure out if she’s hiding in the pantry, or maybe snuck into the basement? What about–

DONG!

Something hit me in the leg and it really hurt! As I looked around to figure it out, I could see Jason standing in my living room, carrying a shovel.

“Not what I expected, but nothing I can’t figure out.” Jason said, holding the shovel as if he would swing again.

As I turned to face him, he darted past me into the kitchen and behind the island. I climbed over the island, only for him to crawl under me and toward the front door and into the dining room. What was incredible was that I could see a few phantoms of him form before he went anywhere, so even if he were hiding around a corner, I could see phantoms he left, and a phantom ahead of where he would go. I still followed him, as he could barely outspeed me, just having the size advantage. I made a pretty good mess of the dining room before he led me back toward the living room.

“I don’t see the point in all this pacing around.” I said, my voice low and booming. “You’ll get tired before I will.”

“Maybe. But one of us isn’t running on an empty stomach!” Jason shouted before whacking me with the shovel a few times. After the first time, his hits didn't hurt as much. The shovel was starting to feel less like a shovel and more like he was lightly slapping me with a spatula.

I continued to chase him around my house until I eventually took his shovel away and he ran up the stairs. Jason knew I didn’t want anyone messing with Mama’s room! He must have been trying to piss me off! But going up the stairs started to get me stuck.

I pushed forward until my body started to shrink, keeping my alien body but losing the size. The phantoms were fading, so I couldn’t predict Jason’s movements as well as before, but I had him cornered anyway. My body may have been smaller again, but my claws and teeth wouldn’t go easy on him.

Jason stood at the end of the hallway, backed against the wall.

“You don’t have to do this! Dale can help!” Jason insisted. It looked like he wanted to be brave, but I could tell he was just putting on a good face. Same as when we were kids.

I laughed. “Help? But I want this, Jason. And you’re going to help me. Tell Nai-bu to come back so I can eat her.”

“Well, then mission complete,” He said, like some cliche idiot.

But suddenly my mouth was covered with fabric. As I gasped for breath, I became drowsy. Drifting out of consciousness, I could hear Nai-bu’s voice try to comfort me, but I couldn’t make out the words.
