Chapter 4:

Solo Ride

Byte

"Sorry, we have a minimum level requirement,"

"Sorry, we have a class requirement,"

"Sorry, we have a minimum status requirement,"

God, could I not find a single guild that would accept me?

"Hi," I walked to literally the last guild post in town. "Do you have any requirements?"

"Yes. You must be an assassin-" they started, but I cut them off.

"I'm an assassin! Isn't that perfect?"

"-who has a kill record of over 10."

I was on the verge of exploding. Then I remembered how I started when I first played the game.

"I'll just go and start my own guild," I shrugged. It's not like I couldn't afford the creation fee of 1000 gold.

So I went to the guild centre downtown and signed my own guild: Genesis. That was one of my favourite words - and I was pretty godly to create my own body. Just like God did.

The guild fair was five days long, so I went back and set up my own post.

Not a single person came to my post for the whole second day. It wasn't even until the last day that someone showed up.

It was a little girl, somewhere like 13 or 14.

"Hi... um, do you have any requirements to join?" she asked in a very quiet voice.

"Nope! As long as you've got a profile, you can join." I smiled. I knew being rejected feels terrible, so I decided to open the guild to everyone.

Hope that doesn't come back to bite me.

"T-Thank you! My name is Aozora," The girl seemed very happy.

"No problem! Glad to have you here. I'm..."

Should I use my real name or my character name?

Well, it's not like I'm going back to my old world, so I guess this could preserve a little bit of the old me.

"I'm Kuroboshi Shiro," I smiled and offered my hand, and she shook it. "Delighted to meet you."

"Greetings," a man with brown hair wearing some heavy armour walked over and interrupted us. "I am the second noble descendant of an Earl, a royal knight by the name of Issac-"

"What do you want," I turned and rolled my eyes.

"Hey! Pay some respect for the noble family!" He yelled. "As for what I want, I have come under my family's request to aid you rookies and do the good deeds as the Earl's descendant!"

"So you want to join us," I turned my head back to Aozora.

"Well, essentially," Issac nodded. "But consider it a blessing to your-"

"Alright. The only reason anyone would want to join my guild is either they fell in love with me, which has a lower chance of dying and going back to life in a different world, or," I paused. "Every single guild declined them."

Issac and Aozora both looked at me in silence.

"Which is most likely true for both of you," I added.

"W-Well, I just started out, so..." Aozora looked like she was on the verge of tears.

"It's fine. We're all the same! I'm new too!" I smiled and patted her head. "As for you, Issac... may I ask why you would be in the smallest town in the nation to look for guilds? Can't you just join the 'Court of Nobles' guild?"

"Um... my grandpa wanted me to start out fresh just like everyone else. He says 'although you are obligated to receive my rank of nobility, you need to work for it.' Which I do not understand but have to follow anyways," Issac scratched his head.

"Well, we can have you, but you need to lower your self-esteem," I shrugged. "The number of supernovas that formed during the last million years in the whole universe cannot compete with your ego."

"What's a supernova?" Aozora tilted her head.

You'll know that you really are good at something when you could effectively explain it to a 13-year-old from another world.

"Wait!" I yelled out loud and slammed my fist into my other palm.

"Are you alright?" Aozora looked at me.

I tried to concentrate a chain of bits to form a byte containing the information about supernovas. I then tapped Aozora's forehead like literally every "wise man" teaches his apprentice in every game I played.

And much to my shock, it worked.

"Oh!" Aozora squealed. "I know now! A supernova is a huge explosion that occurs in the last stages of the development of a new star or-"

"Telepathic Teaching Skill get!" I cut her off and yelled like an anime protagonist learning a new skill or Ash Ketchum getting a new gym badge or something.

"H-How did you just do that?" Issac looked shocked. Yep. Just like I guessed. He was one of those rich kids that never saw the outside world.

"Well, we're officially a guild now, so I suppose we can go do some quests," I ignored Issac. "I need money from quests. I don't care about how rich you are, Issac, but I'm poor. And made even poorer from creating this guild with 1000 gold. This gold, it was an investment. And quests are the way to make a profit from the investment."

"I-I'm not against it," Aozora's eyes lit up when she heard the word "quest".

Of course she wasn't against it. She was hyped for it!

"You know, you could've just asked if you needed funds," Issac pointed out. "Remember, I'm from a noble family."

"If I asked, will you give me money?"

"No," Issac shook his head. "I didn't bring any money."

"Will your grandpa give you money so you could give it to me?"

"What are you smoking? He sent me out here to train me. Of course he won't give me money!"

"Then why did you mention it?!" I yelled at him.

Aw, great. A little girl and an impoverished knight.

Am I going to have to solo carry again?
