Chapter 2:

Chapter 1

The Arrival Of The Magic Engineer

After the flash, Tom found himself high up in the air; he was falling. He seemed to be above a large forest with large trees. Right under him, there was some kind of large building with a pond and a small garden; it was surrounded by a short fence. He was falling faster and faster.

"Fuck... it seems I will die... wait... This must be some kind of illusion! There is no way I came here from home with just one flash. I just went insane and now seeing things... That must be the most rational answer. I will just wake up and..."

Thought Tom, but he couldn't finish his thoughts as he hit the ground hard. He slowly pushed himself up, and much to his surprise, he was well and alive and didn't even feel the impact. After standing up, he looked around himself.

"This is one hell of a plot. It was a small pond and quite a large garden now that I look at it. I can see a few... Seemingly fruit trees near the pond... Now that I think about it... Who could be the owner."

Mumbled Tom and walked closer to the door of the large house, which was located tens of meters away from the gate of the fence. Tom soon stopped by the large metal door and knocked on it. The moment his finger touched the door, a blueish wave went through the door and opened automatically.

"Was that... taht blueish glow... Magic? This feels too surreal, but it can't be an illusion as I can feel everything... except the fall... Let's test something." Thought Tom and scratched his head

"Close."

Declared Tom, and the door closed. He quickly rubbed his eyes and touched the door once again, and it automatically opened again with a blueish glow. Tom nervously laughed and then walked inside. He quickly walked across all the rooms. The house had a kitchen, a dining room, a bathroom, a bedroom, a living room, two larger storage rooms, a library, a study, two smaller empty rooms, a basement and a blacksmith. The house seemed to be in great condition, yet the design and appearance seemed primitive, almost as if it was a building from the middle ages.

The larger storage room was slightly lower than the ground level and was very large. In it, there were many different pieces of ore places and a few bags next to them. In the smaller storage room, there were a few basic tools, such as a hammer, two axes, a shovel, a hoe, a sickle, a scythe, a fork, some knives of different sizes, a bow and a pickaxe; also, there were a few filled large bags. The library was full of different books, but Tom didn't bother to look at them. The light was produced by strange crystals. The moment Tom got close to one, they started glowing, and the moment he walked away, they stopped glowing. Outside there was another storage; it was a storage for firewood, but it was empty.

"This is one hell of a house... I don't know who lives here... That is, even if someone lives here... but as long as no one comes, I will stay here... THe way everything reacter to me, felt as if the house sen me as the owner..."

Thought Tom as he proceeded towards the pond. It was quite large and deep, as Tom couldn't see its bottom, despite the fact that it was crystal clear. And the trees around it were quite young but didn't seem to be fruit trees, as non of them had anything other than leaves, unknown to Tom.

"Uh... it seems they are just normal trees... it would have been better if they were fruit trees..."

Mumbled Tom and walked back to the house, and sat down in the dining room. He just stared at the table for minutes, and he finally shook his head and sighed.

"I guess I will cut some trees... I have noticed that the firewood storage is empty... But I don't want to cut down the trees around the pond yet, as they are still too small... as for the forest around the house... The trees are monstrous."

Mumbled Tom, and walked over to the storage room for an axe and a knife. As soon as he grabbed the tools, he walked over to the gate of the plot, and as he touched it, it opened just like the doors in the house. After a short walk, he stopped by a tree. The tree was dozens of meters high, and he was wider than him. Tom took a deep breath and gripped the axe as hard as he could, and swung it at the tree. The axe went through the tree as if it was not even there, and Tom fell from the sudden movement.

"What the..."

Said Tom as he stood up. At that moment, the ginormous tree fell and created a large cloud of dust. Upon noticing his deed, Tom sat down and just stared at the tree.

"There must be something wrong with it... there is now why I was this strong... But this axe seems quite dull to accomplish this..."

Mumbled Tom as he rubbed his eyes. After a few minutes, he finally stood up and decided to chop the tree into smaller sections. And to his amazement, he cut the tree with each swing, as if it was butter; but even like this, the size of the tree was so large that it took him the whole day to chop it up. As the sun was slowly crawling down the sky, he walked back to his house, leaving the half-chopped tree there. And instantly jumped into bed.

When he woke up, he quickly went down to the basement as there was all the food in the house. He grabbed a loaf of bread and started eating it. While he was eating, he walked back to his half-chopped tree and sat down. When he was halfway done with the bread, he stood up and tried chopping the tree using only one hand, and it worked. It was just as easy as it was previously. About an hour after he finished eating the bread, he walked back to the house and over to the pond to drink. And then continued the work; and finished it in almost half a day.

"I had to start cutting the closest tree... I don't even know how when I am going to manage to finish transporting the firewood inside..."

Mumbled Tom as he dropped the axe and sighed. He took a short break but suddenly heard a strange noise coming from not far from him. he quickly grabbed his axe and looked around. After a few seconds, another noise came from the same direction, so Tom, armed with the axe, decided to try his luck and see what was going on. As he tried to sneak towards the sound, he soon noticed a pair of dark blue wolves. Both of them were injured. The male was more seriously injured, and he was lying on the ground while the female was standing above him.

Tom gripped his axe tightly and stepped closer. It was a mistake as the wolves instantly noticed him, but instead of growling or attacking, they were frozen. The female even lowered her body and lay on top of the male, who groaned as the female wolf's weight was pressed onto him.

"Clever doggies, don't attack me. If you attack me, I will attack back, do you understand?!"

Said Tom and stepped closer. The wolves started shaking slightly. Tom took another step closer, and suddenly the female wolf jumped off the male one and lowered her head to the ground and closed her eyes.

"What is she... Is she submitting? That is strange... Well, I wouldn't mind some company..."

Thought Tom, and he slowly approached the wolves who were shivering. As he got right next to the female, he slowly touched her head but kept his axe ready just in case. Tom patted the wolf, and a slight smile appeared on his face.

"Now I have two doggies... I wonder whether they understand what I am saying. Let's test it... Sit!"

Said Tom, and both of them sat up instantly; even the injured male sat up instantly. And the two of them started waging their tails. As soon as Tom noticed their reaction, he lowered his axe and sighed.

"Alright, come back with me; I guess I will bring the wood somewhere else; you can use storage for firewood temporarily."

Said Tom on the way back. As they got back home, Tom showed the wolves the building he was talking about, and then he went inside the house. The wolves walked into the storage room and lay down, and just looked at each other. A few minutes later, Tom walked back over to them and gave each of them a loaf of bread.

"Sorry, but I don't have meat on me; if you are hungry, this is the best I can offer."

Said Tom patting both of them gently

"I will call you Doli." Pointed Tom at the male wolf

"And I will call you Lodié." Pointed Tom at the female wolf

"And now, I will leave you to rest. You should eat to regain your strength."

Said Tom and left the wolves alone. The wolves just kept staring at the food, and after a few minutes, they looked at each other.

"Who is this terrifying being?" Asked Liodé.

"I don't know... but he ordered us to eat, so we shall eat. I don't want to die because I didn't follow his orders... But this food... It is full of magical power... I don't know how powerful and rich he is, but to be able to just casually hand such a valuable item to pets... We must serve him well to repay for his kindness!"

Said Doli and grabbed one of the loaves of bread and started chewing it slowly. Lodié followed his example and started eating as well.

"Since Master said he doesn't have meat, we shall bring him meat! I am sure he will be happy! Maybe he will even reward us for our work!" Assumed Doli and slightly shook himself.

"Stay here; I will go and check out what he is doing..."

Said Lodié, and after she finished the bread given by Tom, she walked towards the house with wagging tails. The door was open, so she could easily enter. As she explored the house, she finally found Tom. He was sitting in the study and was drawing on a sheet of paper. But what Lodié saw was something entirely different.

"W-what is this..."

Thought Lodié and rushed back to Doli as fast as she could. She was shivering even after she got back next to Doli.

"What happened?!" Asked Doli

"M-master...It was terrifying.... he was seemingly drawing onto a piece of paper... But it was terrifying... each movement of his hand drew a great deal of magical power from the surrounding area... It was more like a battlefield. I don't know what that was... But I am sure it was not a small feat... Maybe Master was working on a brand new spell, which required that amount of energy... But he was smiling and humming... He seemed to enjoy that... Even now... I can still feel that terrifying aura... I almost pissed myself when I saw it first-hand." Uttered Lodié.

"W-what?!" Spoke Doli as he looked at his pair.

"I think what Master said has a figurative meaning... He meant, in my opinion, that we MUST hunt for meat... You stay here... Even after you ate that magical bread, you still need to recover; I will be back with meat as soon as possible... If Master is looking for me. Please cover me!" Said Lodié and glared at the ground.

"Sure, you can count on me! Don't worry; I will keep Master busy till you are back!"

Replied Doli, and gently put his paw on top of Lodié's head
