Chapter 24:

The Entrance

How Not to Be a Medium

Sebastian, due to my gloomy mood, began to get nervous. I couldn't pretend to him that I'd be happy to see these people, or at least not this one person. It was supposed to be a pleasant, trouble-free, educational trip for the young one, and meanwhile, I couldn't get myself together not to spoil it for him.

Fortunately, when we arrived, 913 must have been on duty, because 933 came out to greet us with a big smile. He was a charming and very handsome man in his forties. Despite his huge and terrifying stature, he radiated warmth and kindness. He immediately put his big arm around Sebastian. My student wasn't that small either, but by 933 he looked like a preschooler, not a teenager.

"So you're the new member of our pack," he burst out laughing loudly. “Listen, young man, I have a daughter your age, if you're cool, maybe I'll introduce you. I'd rather she date someone I already know than bring me a stranger."

Sebastian tried to break free from his grip and searched for me with eyes full of begging for help.

"I doubt a teenage girl would be thrilled that her father was trying to match her up. Also, the father being medium, boyfriend also a medium, is too much," I muttered, gripping my suitcase handle tighter as I started to head towards the entrance.

"Right," 933 suddenly became serious and asked Sebastian to go ahead. "Look, I've already spoken to 913, and while the three of us are here, I don't want any trouble, is that clear?"

"Of course," I replied reluctantly. "As long as she doesn't provoke me."

"I do not care about it! You have an additional motivation in the form of a young one. You're adults, just behave yourself," he said a little more gently and smiled.

He was right, I didn't want Sebastian to see the wrong side of me. But I was sure that bitch would try to provoke me and tell him lies about me. However, I would prefer that some facts, such as the one that I could get into a fight, remain a secret. On the other hand, maybe I should tell him about it and be a step ahead of her.

On the first floor of the library, there were three rooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, and a storage room. Often a family member came with us, so there were additional folding beds or cots at our disposal. Sebastian ended up in the room with 933 and wasn't thrilled at first, a bit terrified of the man's openness. We unpacked and I ordered a shopping trip.

"I don't think you're happy," Sebastian remarked subduedly.

"Well," I murmured. “My relationship with 913 has been a bit turbulent. We have different views on some things and we argue a lot. That's why we tend to avoid each other... "

"You're going to have to suffer because of me," he cut me off, clenching his fists.

"Don't worry about me," I replied, handing him the package of cheese he had placed in the basket. “Anyway, try not to be prejudiced against her. It would be best if you didn't have any disagreements with anyone at the start."

We continued shopping in silence, I tried, again and again, to strike up a conversation about food, but Sebastian only answered in half-words. He looked like he was thinking about something and I didn't want to force him out of it. I shrugged, if he wants to share something, he will eventually do it. But before we walked back into the library, I stopped him.

“You'll find out eventually anyway, but I got into a fight with 913 once, and people like to remind us of that. I'm just saying that so you know. I'm not proud of it." I sighed.

"Who won?" Sebastian asked in surprise.

"Let's say it was a draw." 913 suddenly appeared in front of us with a malicious smirk. "I didn't think we'd meet anywhere outside of exit 942. I just wanted to let you know there's a couple of ghosts looking forward to seeing you on duty."

"Thanks for the concern," I murmured, forcing a smile.
