Chapter 10:

One sided conclusion

THE CITY OF STORIES

A goddess who once brought this world to wrought.

A goddess, who stained the earth, rumbled the sky and subjugated all. Attempting to defeat such a divine being would be the height of hubris.

Ha! Even so I’d still die for the chance to fight her at full strength…For the sake of my promise. Ha! What a fool I am!

“Ms Unraveld!”

Her tone gave off a sense of excitement.

Ha! How amusing! To think I’d meet my end being used as a battery to power the resurrection of a god of destruction.

This was undoubtedly the truth, every single person trapped in this shadow`s stomach was going to be drained of their essence and die.

“Ms unraveled!”

The dragon and I just happen to have a higher vitality than most, so our deaths, delayed as they may seem are still inevitable.

“Ms Unraveled!” She called out…

My eyes had been completely shut, as I tried my hardest to sleep and ignore her impudent voice…

If I am to die; I’ll do so in leisure and nothing less…

I performed my duties to the best of my abilities—I have a very strong sense of duty after all, so I deserve a very good rest.

“Ms Unraveled!” She called out yet again; this time she violently shook me to get my attention.

What might it be, that made her believe she had the right to touch me…

One such as I should not be touched so carelessly.

My eyes squinted open; I peered into her crimson red eyes, “What is it?”

She had a silly expression on her face, similar to that of a dog seeing its home for the first time in days.

“Ms Unraveled! Look we’re back! We’re back— we’re back, we’re back!” The dragon girl cheered excitedly, standing over me.

She was completely nude, her long black hair covered the two twin mounds on her chest, her long hair extended all the way to her feet covering her backside as well—she still hadn’t put her school uniform back on?

My eyes widened as they noticed the abundance of colour, the large buildings all lined up together and the neon glow of the moon and city lights.

As I looked around, I quickly noticed all the missing girls stretched out across the pavement, sound asleep unharmed—every single one of them accounted for.

Not a single one of them was missing—I would know my memory is without fault.

Why? How?  Important questions, it didn’t make any sense to me, these girls have been trapped in there for weeks, they should all have been dead…They should all have had their souls completely drained! So why?

…….

The only possible explanation was that she herself decided it…She decided that none of them would die; such is her authority, if it really is her that is.

If this really was the work of the goddess who once ravaged the earth, but why—why would she suddenly let us all escape?

While time remained stagnant, in the stomach of that husk of a goddess, time on the outside carried on as normal.

I had kept track of the time by counting the seconds in my head, I wasn’t sure of the exact time, but it was nearly dawn…

Somebody abruptly let out a loud shriek Eeeeeek! When I turned to look, I saw a silver haired girl; she was the cause of the noise.

She just woke up I take it.

“What’s wrong with me!?—what’s wrong with me!?—what’s wrong with my head!?” She blubbered repeatedly while covering her face.

“Why would I even dream up something like that!?”

Her face flushed red, her hair tied up in a ponytail and a cold sweat ran across her forehead.

She was dressed in an elegant pure white sundress.

Another voice spoke out.

“You had a weird dream too huh.” A blonde girl with a bob cut, in a tracksuit speculated. Her arms crossed together, and her eyes shut as if she was picturing an image.

“Elea! You, had an umm...Did I umm no I did not, I…No—I—I didn’t have any weird dreams.” She stammered.

“What are you saying?...Anyway my dream was amazing,” The blonde girl grinned, “you and I were—

—Stop it! Don’t tell me! I don’t want to hear it!”

She covered her ears, to avoid hearing what the blonde girl had to say.

“That reaction tells me everything, so you actually had the exact same dream as I did!”

The silver haired girl frowned despondently and said, “It’s not my fault okay;… you must have—you must’ve infected me with your dirtiness!”

“Scuse me, didn’t know it was infectious, or you just have a secret dirty side.”

She teased with a devilish grin.

“What other, dirty desires do you have, come on tell me, especially the ones involving me!”

“I don’t have any ‘dirty desires’ are we clear, now stuff it!” The silver haired girl said, while pulling the blonde girls cheeks.

"It must have been that shadowy place`s fault then okaayy!"

“Ow ow ow ow…I was kidding, stop—stop—stop Frey!” She pleaded.

“Watching you guys go at it, is always so much fun.”

Her long black hair fluttered  gently in the wind, her soft light skin had a distinctive glow in the moonlight.

Her bangs hid her red crimson eyes, her small gentle lips curved into a smile as her chest puffed up.

If not for her long hair she would have been exposing her proud bosom.

Ha! The dragon girl is quite the speedster; I didn’t even notice her get past me.

“Hmm…What’s the matter you guys look like you’ve seen a ghost? This isn’t the first chapter you know.”

Marine?! They said in unison, looking somewhat relived and surprised.

The blonde girl nose-dived straight into the dragon girl’s arms and tackled her down to the ground.

THUD!

The sliver haired girl smiled wordlessly at both of them.

“You need to stop popping out of nowhere like that Marine.” The blonde girl giggled.

“Huh—like what?” She replied.

“Um...More importantly, Marine why, aren’t you wearing your uniform?” The silver haired girl said with an exasperated sigh.

“Oh that mhmm— believe it or not I took it off, two or three chapters ago, then I forgot to put it on…” She contemplated. “Is it too much fanservice?”

She had a puzzled look as she asked.

“No! While it’s true you’re stark naked right now, it isn’t being described erotically, so it’s not fanservice you see.” The blonde girl declared grandly.

“Oh I see. But wouldn’t some readers still find it distasteful?”

“Does it really matter, anyone reading ‘city of stories’ isn’t expecting an ‘Agatha Christie’ reading experience, so it’s okay for us to be a little distasteful."

“Oh that’s good then?”

“No it isn’t!!...And Could you guys not blatantly break the fourth wall!” The silver haired girl yelled.

As the three girls fooled around, I had a sudden realization…

The reason for the random kidnappings, the reason for letting us all go alive…And what it is that goddess may be planning all of it became clear to me.

It wasn’t just randomly kidnapping people; it was searching for someone—someone in particular. The reason it let us all go, was because it found that person, and that person is...

one of these three girls…

But why them I wonder?

“Hey Frey is it me or do you look a little chubbier?”

“Really do I?…Now that you mention it though, I guess I do feel a little heavier.”

The dragon girl chimed in. “You must have eaten a whole lot at the cafe.”

“I—I don’t remember eating, that much of anything, though.”

I`m not certain of her plan, but if it is her— if it really is that goddess, then she’s looking for a way to revive herself and bring about the end.

“Oi! Blonde girl—lend me your cellular phone.” I declared.

Huh? Her facial expression tells me.

The blonde girl turned to face me.

“Cellular?” The silver haired girl added eyeing me confusedly.

The blonde girl asked a question, which I`d normally reply to with—

“Um…Who are you?”

—the legendary legendary unrivaled unmatched all powerful demon Lamia.

“An S.I.D officer.” I replied.

“Oh--Did the S.ID stop wearing uniforms?” She asked sarcastically.

“Ha! Your friend set it ablaze in our fight.”

The two other girls gave their friend a blank stare.

Staaaareee!

The dragon girl chuckled and said “It’s true she and I did go at it hard, then I kinda burnt her clothes of— hehehe, so could you help her out Elea.”

“Okay…? That explains her clothes, but is she really a member of the S.I.D.”

“Now that I think about it, isn’t she the person who tried to warn us back then, when the shadow thing attacked us.”

 The silver haired girl clarified.

“So I don’t think she’s lying Elea.”

“Kay—fine here you go.”

She handed me her cellular phone device.

The dragon girl came to my aid earlier in that conversation, although t`was her fault I was without a means of communications in the first place.

I used the cellular phone to call the head of the S.I.D…

“Orion I found them, the kidnapped girls. We`re a few blocks away from the Rosemary sister`s cafe.”

“…Oh that’s strange, William called not too long ago to; he’s near where you’re at, now.” Orion the head of the S.I.D replied.

Orion also told me he was in an important meeting, and that he couldn’t afford to be bothered so he cut the call, the meeting was with some of the city big wigs, he also told me he would send some people to pick up the girls, later that morning.

So I’m free to go then.

It was morning, the sun was rising.

Just one question I couldn’t find the answer too…Why was one of these girls being targeted, by the shadow of a goddess of death?

I may never know the exact answer...But I’m certain of one thing…It’s tied to her revival.

One of these girls is somehow being used to revive her, if she’s revived this city—no the world itself will be destroyed!

If I took them by the S.I.D station, we might be able to figure out a way to stop this end from ever happening.

Ha!

Thud! My footsteps echoed.

“Ms unraveld where are you going?” The dragon girl said.

“To punch a certain idiot...Oh—you and your friends are free to leave.” I added.

“Is that okay—shouldn’t we stay here to give the S.I.D or the police a report?” The silver haired girl asked.

“No need, you have my permission to leave.” I grinned.

I suppose you could call this an epilogue, or at least that’s what William would call it…Ha!

After departing from the scene, the former kidnapped girls were all picked up by trauma team, and reunited with their families shortly after. Later that morning, I met up with William, somewhere near the Rosemary sister’s cafe like Orion said.

I told him the entire story.

“There’s a part of your story that bothers me...” William said. “You know which part right?”

“Hmmm?”

I grinned.

“Don’t play dumb.” He sighed.

“I really have no idea what bothers you so much about my story.”

He leaned forward, his face was right in front of mine then he said. “Liar.”

He continued...

“Tell me—why did you let those ‘three girls’ go—if you knew one of them was going to be used by that ‘goddess ’ to bring about the end of the world?”

“Ha!”

“I have a strong sense of duty…That`s why I’m fulfilling a one sided promise, one I made a long time ago…Ha! How foolish I know.”

His ocean blue eyes widened and his mouth was left agape.

“Is that so…What exactly will you gain from this promise?”

“Ha! Absolutely nothing.” I replied
