Chapter 23:

Meeting/Luna: Part Two

Theodora Plays to Win (With Cheat Codes)

Scary! Katya backed away, “I appreciate the invitation, but I’d rather not be a punching bag.” Still, Katya found that even in their brief interaction so far the feelings she’d been having remained. There was a fire shut up in her bones, radiating from her soul, pulsating in time with Luna’s. It was new and intense. A hand grabbed her shoulder pulling her backward.

“Sorry Katya, Luna’s a bit of a battle junkie.” Everest was trying to warn her off, however there was something drawing her closer despite being pulled away. She enjoyed the intensity. At the same time all these new feeling didn’t feel like her own exactly. In her old life… in her old life she was angry, and frustrated, and sad a lot, and putting two and two together it probably was due to her family situation, though that’s as far as she could get before the wall. This heat wasn’t built from anger or frustration, it was built on joy, an innate joy. This Luna in front of her was something fantastical but she was also pretty and had already shown so many different sides of herself, it drew forth the fire in her body.

“That’s not completely true.” Luna was made of fragile, cutting ice. The battle had long been buried beneath the frozen tundra of memory. Her hatred had long since cooled. She could only feign the excitement she once felt charging through the front lines and cleaving humans in to little pieces and so she faced this human as even tempered as was expected. Her face was square, and her armor fit her oddly, it seemed familiar and the girl was staying with Everest so it was probably Careston’s. Careston Overhill, what a naïve, charming man he was. She had fond memories of the Overhill family, for generations they’d been one of the most notable, whenever she received a noise complaint it’d always be one of them making a ruckus. The self-proclaimed protectors liked to make their presence known. She was getting lost in her memories again, a bad habit, one she’d been more and more prone to these last few years,

“You’re one to talk. From the get-go you were running around the village swinging a giant axe!” Luna giggled as she recalled the tiny Everest waddling around with the Orilisium axe, Bane and Cubix at her back helping her along with Careston a ways behind panicking like someone’s head might come flying off.

“I suppose you’re right. I was a bit of an aggressive child.”

“Were?”

“Excuse me” This exchange caught Katya’s attention.

“Hmm”

“I was under the impression that Everest and Opal had only been staying here for a few months.”

“Technically, that’s true-“

“We all came from the same village!” Opal interjected excitedly.

“Really?”

“She was the mayor of a town, and then the chief of our village, and then captain of the ship, and before all that she was like a queen or something!”

Katya saw Luna’s eyes dart to the side for a second at the mention of her being a queen.

“Madame Ginger was originally the captain of the guard’s from when she was mayor. They left together. And me and Bellamy grew up practically next door to each other. You’ll find that many…no, pretty much all of the residents of the Mythos hail from the Demizone.”

“Ya really don’t remember nothin’ do ya, Lil Pup?”

“Nothing from before I woke up at Everests.”

“Quite vexing…” Luna seemed to be thinking about something. It’s possible she knew something, but she was still keeping her cards close to her chest. They didn’t really know each other yet, so Katya probably shouldn’t expect to be given any answers yet. Everest strangely withheld information that could have been groundwork to ask the questions she needed answers to. Did Everest not trust Luna despite their history, or perhaps because of their history. They all had tremendous reverence for her, but maybe is was all for show, for Katya’s benefit, she was a stranger after all even if she was a human. She was circling. It was best to just let the scene unfold.

Luna paused as if pondering what to say next, then straightened her posture and looked straight at Luna.

“Many world-shattering events took place in a brief period of time. You could say the very foundations of our reality were reshaped overnight…”
