Chapter 17:

Almost at the village

Maki

Maki and Rina suprised by Selena's sudden warning about the witch hunters' ability to track witches. They quickly realized that they needed to leave immediately, and Hazel provided them with a bag of supplies, while Selena gave them an invisibility potion for emergencies. They thanked them and set off towards the witch village, being careful not to draw attention to themselves.

As they made their way through the forest, Maki and Rina were constantly vigilant, keeping their eyes peeled for any signs of danger. They moved quietly, avoiding dry leaves and twigs that could give away their location. Maki carried the heavy bag of supplies without complaint, knowing they needed it to survive for a few days. However, Rina was visibly nervous, and Maki tried to reassure her that they were taking every precaution to avoid being detected. As they continued walking, the forest grew darker and more ominous. Rina became increasingly anxious, and they decided to set up camp for the night. Maki quickly started a fire while Rina made the tent. They opened the bag of supplies and found some unusual bean-shaped food and bottled water. Rina questioned whether it would be enough for two people, but Maki suggested that it might be magically enchanted to make them feel full quickly. They both tried the beans and were pleasantly surprised by how tasty and filling they were. After eating, Rina went into the tent while Maki kept watch over their surroundings. She knew they were still in danger, and her thoughts turned to the journey ahead. Although they were getting closer to the witch village, Maki felt anxious about what they might face when they arrived. She knew they would have to fight for their right to live there, even if they made it safely.

Lost in thought, Maki didn't notice when the fire started to die down. Suddenly, she heard a twig snap in the darkness. She woke Rina, and they hid in the opposite direction of the sound, waiting for the source of the noise. It turned out to be just a harmless fox, and they breathed a sigh of relief. Maki and Rina stayed up for a while longer, taking turns to keep watch while the other slept. Eventually, they both drifted off, exhausted from their long journey.

Maki and Rina woke up to the soothing sound of birds chirping and the sun shining through the trees. They enjoyed a hearty breakfast, packed up their campsite, and continued on their journey. As they walked, they noticed the forest thinning out and glimpses of the sky above. Maki realized they were approaching the witch village.Excited to finally reach their destination, the two picked up their pace, but their joy was short-lived. They heard footsteps behind them, and when they turned around, a man in a dark cloak was trailing them. Maki's heart raced as she recognized the hunter. She quickly pulled Rina into a bush to devise a plan while the hunter closed in on them.

Thinking quickly, Maki remembered the invisibility potion Selena had given them. She retrieved it from their bag and split it with Rina, and they drank it just in time before the hunter arrived. They could hear him muttering about their footsteps and growing closer.

As the hunter passed their hiding spot, he couldn't see them and continued on his way, puzzled. However, he suddenly noticed footprints leading to the bush where Maki and Rina were hiding. He exclaimed, "Oh, there they are" and started moving towards them.Maki and Rina felt their hearts racing with anxiety, despite drinking the potion.
