Chapter 10:

Chapter 10: The Classroom

Elemental Tear

Alex struggled to find his classroom. A lot of students were walking on the corridors also trying to find their classrooms. After a long search, Alex finally found his classroom.

Yesterday test results were out Alex and all his class were given the Novice rank, with the exception of Samantha, and Emily who were given the never seen before low-apprentice rank, from that moment onwards they were regarded as celebrities in the institute, but without a doubt the biggest celebrity in the institute was Max, he had received the highest rank that someone in the first year ever got in the entry tests, max was now the youngest apprentice rank ever, Alex was very proud to have such a strong friend.

Alex was now in his white EIL uniform, sitting in the corner of the classroom, waiting for class to start. Suddenly, Max, accompanied by three boys who looked like nobles, entered the room. After glancing at his classmates, Max spotted Alex and made his way over to him.

Max looked at Alex with a sad expression and said, "I'm sorry, Alex. I've been dealing with some personal issues. I wanted to visit you in the hospital, but I couldn't bring myself to do it."

Alex nodded and replied, "It's all good. I'm better now. Congratulations on reaching apprentice rank! "

Max smiled and said, "thank you, I’m sure you will get there in no time. Let's talk after class."

With that, Max and his three friends walked to the back of the class to take their seats.

Looking around, he noticed that the other students were already settling in and chatting with each other.

Alex felt a bit out of place and unsure how to approach them. He decided to keep to himself for the time being and wait for the class to start.

Alex noticed that he and Max weren’t the only heirs in this class, Emily and Samantha were part of this class to.

As the clock ticked closer to the start of the class, the students started to quiet down and take their seats. Alex and his classmates waited for the professor to arrive.

A few moments later, the door opened, and a tall man with a thick beard and a warm smile entered the room.

"Good morning, class," said the Professor in a deep, booming voice. "My name is Professor Harrow, and I'll be your headteacher for this semester. Today in this class we are going to talk about the power ranking system of the Church of Elements."

The teacher appeared to be a tall, young man with a thick beard who came from a third-tier noble family. He had a well-groomed appearance with neatly styled hair, and his clothing might be of good quality, although not necessarily flashy or ostentatious. His facial features could be sharp and defined, suggesting a sense of determination and confidence. He had a fit and slender build, with good posture that exuded a sense of discipline and authority.

"As you know, the Church of Elements is a powerful organization that protects the world from teras and other threats. And within this organization, there is a ranking system that determines the level of skill and expertise of its members.

Let's start with the lowest rank, which is Novice. This is someone who is just starting to learn a skill and has very little experience and knowledge. They may not be able to perform basic tasks without guidance.

Next is Apprentice, which represents someone who has progressed beyond the novice level and has a basic understanding of the skill. Apprentices are still learning and may need supervision or instruction, but they are capable of performing some tasks on their own.

Moving up, we have Adept. This rank represents someone who has become proficient in the skill and has a solid understanding of its principles and techniques. Adepts are skilled practitioners who can perform complex tasks with ease and may be trusted with more advanced responsibilities.

Specialist is the next rank, representing someone who has developed a high degree of expertise in a particular area of the skill. Specialists have honed their skills to a level beyond that of most practitioners and may be sought after for their specialized knowledge and abilities.

Expert is the second highest rank, representing someone who has reached a high level of skill and proficiency in the subject and has a broad understanding of its principles and techniques. Experts have considerable experience and are capable of handling even the most challenging tasks with confidence.

Now, we come to the highest ranks. Masters are highly skilled practitioners who have extensive knowledge and experience and are recognized as leaders in their field. They have achieved a level of mastery that most practitioners cannot match.

Grandmasters are considered to be legendary figures in their field, with a level of mastery beyond most practitioners. They are recognized as some of the most skilled practitioners in the skill and are highly respected. Here at EIL, our headmaster is a grandmaster-rank mage. Remember, if you see him, always be polite and show respect.

And finally, we have Archon, which is the highest rank in the power ranking system. Archons are considered to be supreme authorities in their field and have achieved a level of mastery that is unmatched by any other. They are often revered as living legends".

"Max, Emily, and Samantha, I see that you three are looking quite impressed. That's because Archon is a very rare and prestigious rank, with only the heirs of the elements having the potential to achieve it. Archons have a level of power that is unparalleled and can be a great threat to humankind if they choose to use their powers for harm or domination. However, it's important to note that the level of threat an Archon poses would depend on their motivations and the extent of their powers."

As the teacher finished his explanation of the power ranking, Emily couldn't help but glance over at Alex to see his reaction. Surprisingly, he seemed unfazed by the teacher's cheap provocation. Emily had been curious about Alex since the ceremony night where he had single-handedly defeated one tera. She often found herself sneaking away to the hospital when visiting her mother to spy on him, even though she didn't know why.

After the incident, Emily went to the location where it had all happened. The ground was burnt to ash and even the stones were nothing but dust. She went with Max and she knew that he was terrified by the destruction, but Emily was intrigued by the mysterious power that Alex had used to defeat the tera.

When the officers from the church arrived at the scene, all they found was Alex and the tera core. After an evaluation, they discovered that the core belonged to a very strong tempest grade tera. Emily couldn't believe that a 10-year-old boy could have killed it. The more she thought about it, the more she wanted to uncover more information about Alex.

After that, the teacher continued the lesson:

"Alright class, now let's move on to discussing Tera grades and the threat levels they produce. As you all know, teras are powerful creatures with varying levels of abilities, and it's important to understand their threat level in order to properly handle them. Let's start with Leviathan grade teras. These dragon-like creatures are incredibly rare and powerful, capable of causing significant destruction and loss of life through brute force alone. They are nearly impossible to defeat or subdue and their body remains are sold for an exorbitant amount of gold. Now, moving on to Infernal grade teras. These are dangerous creatures that pose a serious threat to human life and can cause significant damage. They often act as group chieftains or bosses to a group of Tempest grade teras, and their body parts are sold for a reasonable amount of gold.

Speaking of Tempest grade teras, they are menacing and can pose a significant challenge to inexperienced individuals or small groups. However, they are not necessarily a threat to larger populations or skilled adventurers. These teras usually travel in groups and can evolve into Infernal grade with experience, and their body parts can be sold for normal quantities of gold coins."

As the teacher finishes explaining, Alex interrupts with a sour tone, "What about Primordial grade?" The class bursts out laughing, including the teacher with a light smile. However, Emily speaks up and confirms that they too have heard about this threat from other adults.

The teacher's expression changes to a serious one as he addresses the class, "Primordial grade teras are cataclysmic in nature. They have the power to cause catastrophic events on a global scale, potentially leading to the end of civilization as we know it. However, there is no registry of this threat ever appearing, and it's been said to be a myth. Rest assured; this is something that will never happen."

As the class continued, Emily couldn't help but wonder if Alex knew more about the Primordial grade teras than he let on. She made a mental note to try and talk to him about it later.

Overall, the lesson on the power ranking system and tera grades was informative and eye-opening. Alex realized that there was still so much he didn't know about the world he lived in and the threats that existed within it.
