Chapter 8:

A Contemporary Start

A Mistletoe In Winter

After the graduation ceremony ended in such a sad way for Kitomi, shedumped her “Manga Copy”, which she liked to call it, into the schooldumpster. It was filled with a bombardment of ideas about the manga, bothfrom Kitomi and Hirugami. This book and its contents held a special placein Kitomi’s heart. It took her a lot of effort to part away with it. It was as if apart of her heart was torn out from her chest. But, Hirugami had broken herheart and she had wanted to finish the manga with the person she hadstarted it with. So, she had lost her determination to complete it and partedwith it for good.Kitomi, with utter shock and disbelief on seeing the copy, asked Mitoriwhere he had found it, to which he told that he found it in the schooldumpster and wanted to take a look at it. Hirugami, on seeing the copy withMitori, tensed a bit and asked Kitomi about her reason to dump the copy.Kitomi didn’t want to answer his question and instead she insisted onthrowing it away as it was know just a lost cause to her. Mitori and Ichikotried to convince them when suddenly Hirugami shouted impulsively,

“There’s nothing to think, what’s done is done. I have moved on.”

Mitori and Ichiko decided to leave them alone for a bit to decide what theywere going to do about it and they got up and left to a nearby bookstore. Both of them sat there for ten minutes straight in an awkward silence, when suddenly out of the blue, Hirugami asks

“Do you have a boyfriend?”

“As a matter of fact, I don’t have one. We havebeen sitting here in awkward silence for the past ten minutes and that’s thebest thing you come up with to start some small talk? Wow, I feel sorry forthe girl who ends up with you.”

Hirugami gets stabbed in the heart by her cold comment. Then Hirugamiasks her the reason of not continuing the manga anymore. To this, Kitomireplies that she has had enough of bad instances in the past and she istrying to bury it and put it away, slightly hinting about the incident at thegraduation ceremony. Hirugami tells her that he didn’t mean to hurt herlike that as he was not feeling like himself at that time.Although Kitomi thinks it to be Hirugami’s fault for rejecting her but in herheart, she also blames herself for putting it all on his shoulders and in theprocess, reminding him of his dark past.Night started to fall and Mitori and Ichiko hadn’t returned yet. Hirugamiand Kitomi decided to spend the night at a nearby hotel. Hirugami hadarrived by a cab, so both of them left the cafe and headed for the hotel inKitomi’s car.On reaching the hotel, they check in and sit in the dining area. The waitergave them their menu cards and a glass of water for both. While Kitomi wasabout to drink some water, Hirugami suddenly asks her about what wouldshe do if he agrees to work together with her to complete the manga likethey were planning to do before. On hearing this sudden proposal from Kitomi couldn’t help becoming a bitflustered and nearly choked on her water. But she calmed her nerves andasked him whether he had any ideas about where to start.Fairly surprised that Kitomi is open to discussion about the topic,Hirugami tells her that he feels sorry for her due to their past encounterand wanted to make up to her and helping her complete the manga theyhad started seemed to be a golden opportunity for him. But, Kitomi closedthe topic then and there saying that she didn’t want to walk that path again.Hirugami tries to comfort her by saying that she won’t have to walk thepath alone and that he will be with her till the end this time. No matter howthe result turns out, he will help her finish the manga if she wants him too.Kitomi couldn’t stop her face from flushing with colour after that. Tearshad started falling down her eyes. Seeing the tears, Hirugami became a bitconfused about what to do and started searching franticly for hishandkerchief. He wondered if what she had said had affected her in a badway. He handed the handkerchief to her and she took it and wiped hertears and in the most beautiful way smiled towards Hirugami and told himthat she decided to give the manga another shot if he was willing to helpher see it through.Hirugami was happy from the bottom of his heart that Kitomi accepted hisproposal. How he had missed that wonderful smile of hers and how it hadtaken his breath, his sleep, everything from him, six years ago. He wished tosee her joyous and demanding side once more.In that moment, Hirugami’s phone started ringing and he asked Kitomi towait there and order anything she wanted. He left the dining place andaccepted the call. It was Mitori. He asked Hirugami where they were.Hirugami told them that they were at a nearby hotel and they had acceptedto work together one more time to complete their incomplete manga. On hearing about them, Mitori was awestruck and congratulated Hirugamiabout their decision to complete the manga together. He cut the call andtexted them that he and Ichiko would come the next day to pick them upand they better thank him for being the greatest help in them making up.That’s Mitori for you.
