Chapter 8:

A coffee date with a troublesome rich girl

Goodbye, Goodnight

"So, you're here because your dad asked you to as well, right?" I calmly asked her.

No response.

"If that's the case, then wouldn't it be a lot wiser for us to break this off as soon as possible since neither of us wants to take part in this stupidity, right?" I asked again.

Yet, once again, no response.

So far, our "date" seems to be going well. My name is Tobe Seiichiro and just now, I am on my first date with my future wife, or at least that's what our parents want us to be. What do you mean by what happened after the last chapter? There's nothing that happened after that. I came in here soaked in hot Americano after I have my hair cut and it's not because she threw it at me as I said those words to her. That's something that someone like her wouldn't do. Not at all.

"Oh hey, I know I should say I'm sorry for spilling - no, for throwing a hot coffee all over you as soon as we met but I will just keep my mouth shut the entire time. Not to mention, I should say sorry for puking at you last night all because I got passed out in front of your apartment, mistaking it for mine." I tried to imitate her as I mock her with a 'cutesy' voice.

I know doing all this will not result in her apologizing but I am just way too petty to let go of the situation at hand right now.

"So, what are you doing here?" she asked me.

"Huh? I'm here because I was asked to come here. What about you?" I responded.

Of course, without waiting for her response I already know what is the answer to this question. The cafe that we are in which was filled with noises moments earlier is now filled with deafening silence. People try to mind their own business, some try to take a peek at what's going on at our table while others try to eavesdrop. It is to be expected after what just happened that our table will be the center of attention since her arrival.

"Is that so? Well, let's get this over with and just tell our parents that we don't like each other and break off their agreement," she suggested.

Good thing our lines of thought aligned with each other. After all, I don't want to get associated with someone like her.

"What if I say no?" I leaned in towards her with a smirk on my face.

How come my body is moving on its own? Was it because I am way too petty to let her go with just this? Was becoming a middle-aged man who is single made me desperate for affection? I wonder what's going through my head but one thing I am sure of is that my body does the opposite of what my mind tells me to do.

"Huh?! What are you talking about all of a sudden?" she protests to my response.

"Well, after being so kind as to say sorry for spilling hot coffee on my shirt, it would be ungrateful of me to suddenly reject your parents' agreement with my dad, don't you think?" I teased her more.

I was right, it's all for a petty reason.
