Chapter 7:

Unveiling Sylphalope

Silent Shards

Resplendent joy filled my being as I reflected on the surprising revelation of the second trial. It had been a moment of fun and exhilaration amidst the arduous challenges I faced. I never expected to find such delight amid these trials that tested my resolve.

Gazing back at the path I had traversed, I couldn't help but feel glad that my movements had not been dull and predictable. Each step had been a dance, an intricate choreography that intertwined my body with the melodies and patterns of the floating rocks. The risk had been present, but the rewards of synchronization and unity were worth every moment of uncertainty.

Reaching the final checkpoint, exhaustion overcame me, and I collapsed onto the solid ground. My tiredness and rapid breaths echoed the exertion of my journey. I looked up at the sky above, the Archway looming in the distance, a gateway to unknown realms. "I never thought there would be twenty checkpoints," I mumbled, a mixture of exhaustion and awe in my voice.

The watcher, always by my side, replied, "Yes, and if you had attempted to cross without deciphering the true nature of this trial, you would have surely faltered along the way. The Dance of Elements demanded your understanding and mastery."

As we conversed, the tranquility of our rest was interrupted by a sudden surge of energy. A portal materialized before us, its swirling colors drawing us inward, like a force beyond our control. I found myself being whisked away to an unfamiliar place, an ambiance that seemed both mysterious and foreboding.

To my surprise, I encountered Lula, the enigmatic guide who had led me through the trials thus far. Greetings were exchanged, and the watcher assumed its usual role as a listener while I eagerly awaited Lula's explanation.

She began, "This third trial is different, Anant. It requires you to choose one mystical creature that will accompany you on your path beyond the Archway."

My curiosity was piqued, and I asked, "Where are these creatures? I don't see them."

With a flick of her fingers, Lula cleared the mist surrounding us, revealing four cages holding various mystical creatures. My eyes widened in awe as I observed their unique forms and vibrant colors.

"You may go and take a closer look at each one," Lula instructed, her voice filled with a hint of mystery. "Choose the creature that resonates with you, for it will become your first companion on your journey."

The watcher, ever cautious, interjected, "Wait a moment. Don't you think this trial seems too easy? Is there something you're not telling us?"

I nodded in agreement, sensing there might be more to this trial than meets the eye. "Lula, are you hiding something from us?"

Lula smiled gently, her demeanor calm and assured. "No, Anant. This trial holds no hidden mysteries or complex puzzles. It is a simple choice, a symbolic representation of the companion that will join you on your path. Trust your instincts and select the creature that calls to your heart."

Relief washed over me, mixed with a lingering curiosity. This trial was refreshingly straightforward, devoid of riddles or challenges. I approached the cages, my eyes drawn to each mystical creature held within, their presence radiating with a sense of mystique and wonder.

My gaze drifted toward the first creature, mesmerized by its grace and elegance. It had translucent antlers and delicate wings, radiating an ethereal beauty.

The second creature caught my attention with its brilliant, shimmering feathers that displayed an array of captivating colors. It exuded a mesmerizing aura, drawing me closer.

In the next cage, my eyes fell upon a diminutive creature with vibrant scales reminiscent of flickering flames. Its presence emanated fiery determination and resilience.

Finally, my gaze settled on a tiny creature that resembled a delicate blend of a butterfly and a leaf. Its wings boasted intricate patterns resembling leaf veins, showcasing a vibrant shade of green.

Each creature possessed its unique and enchanting appearance, leaving me with a sense of wonder and a difficult decision.

With a tumultuous surge of confusion, my brain teetered on the brink of explosion as I beheld those resplendent creatures. The task of making a decision seemed insurmountable, casting me adrift in a sea of uncertainty. It was at this critical moment that Lula, my companion, proposed an intriguing idea.

"If you find yourself unable to choose which one to accompany, fear not," Lula interjected, her voice filled with a hint of mischief. "Just hold your breath, feel the ebb and flow of your life force, and let these magnificent beings decide for you."

Perplexed, the watcher interjected with a quizzical tone, "What exactly do you mean by that?"

A wry smile played upon Lula's lips as she patiently addressed the bewildered watcher. "Ah, if I suppose, you are a novice watcher," she remarked, her voice dripping with amusement. "Allow me to elucidate. If you don't possess the authority to choose, then let yourself be chosen. It doesn't matter whether it happens sooner or later; neither choice is incorrect"

"Chosen one, huh?" I muttered, my voice tinged with a mixture of skepticism and curiosity.

Embracing Lula's words, I positioned myself on the ground, crossing my legs in a manner reminiscent of the yoga lessons bestowed upon me by my father. As I settled into the familiar pose, memories of my father's teachings flooded my mind. Determined, I followed Lula's instructions with deliberate precision, each movement executed with a sense of purpose and anticipation.

As I embarked on my audacious endeavor to circulate my blood and hold my breath, I summoned every ounce of willpower within me. With sheer determination, I pushed my physical limits to the brink, striving to maintain such a challenging posture. Despite the mounting exhaustion, I refused to be deterred, mustering my resolve to press on.

I continued but an inexplicable phenomenon unfolded before me. The very ground beneath me quivered and trembled as if stirred by an unseen force. The fabric of reality itself seemed to ripple and distort, concealing its secrets. And then, with a powerful jolt, something emerged from the depths, capturing my bewildered gaze.

Stretching an impressive length of fifteen feet, the creature unveiled itself in all its splendor. Its body resembled that of a centipede, adorned with intricate segmented plates that shimmered with a captivating iridescence. Each segment boasted vibrant patterns that pulsed and danced with an ethereal glow, seamlessly blending deep purples, blues, fiery oranges, and yellows into a breathtaking kaleidoscope of colors. Its exoskeleton, harder than steel, stood as an impregnable armor, offering unparalleled protection against any potential threat.

Swiftly, the creature soared towards my position. Lost in my unwavering determination, I remained oblivious to any sound. I knew that any movement would disrupt the delicate synchronization I had achieved.

A radiant light bathed the surroundings, gradually revealing another creature, I beheld a sight of pure mesmerization. Translucent, iridescent antlers adorned its majestic head, while delicate wings akin to those of butterflies gracefully fluttered, enveloping its eyes in a spellbinding aura.

As the centipede creature approached, I watched in amazement as a protective barrier formed around me, preventing it from reaching me. The barrier held strong, effectively keeping me safe. After a while, sensing its inability to harm me, the creature eventually departed, fading away into the realm.

Lula approached me, concern evident in her voice. She asked, "Are you okay?"

I reassured her, "Yeah, I'm fine. But what was that?"

Lula paused for a moment before responding, "That was Charrak - The Guardian of Mystical Creatures. I believe he sensed something unsettling within you or this realm."

Confused, I replied, "Something unsettling inside me? I don't understand what I did."

Suddenly, a peculiar voice echoed in the air, capturing my attention. "You did nothing, dear. Charrak simply became agitated," it said.

Intrigued, I searched for the source of the voice and soon discovered that the creature who had come to my aid was now transformed into a maiden. She stood before me with shimmering antlers adorning her hair, reaching down to her shoulders. Resplendent wings reminiscent of butterflies were concealed behind her. She introduced herself, saying, "I am Sylphalope, part creature, and part human. From now on, I am at your service."
