Chapter 2:

2. Tone to a Deaf Man

A Winter As Cold As Your Heart

"Haha... I think I might have forgotten it..."

Aoki stands at the entrance of the auditorium looking dumbfounded and nervous.
He had forgotten that in the time that he had rushed himself to arrive at the competition site he had forgotten the singular thing that he needed to bring, to which was the score.
The score to a musician is much like the guide to a video game, or the textbook to a high school student, the score is a written version of the music in question, and it is how musicians learn and perform songs and pieces.
Without it, it is impossible for someone who had never heard of the piece to be able to properly judge and ascertain the ability one has when playing a specific piece in question.

"Ah, so I see, then I'm afraid its impossible for me to listen to you, I guess I will have to disqualify you for having the inability to bring your music with you."

As soon as the judge mentioned disqualification Aoki's heart sank, and as quickly as he came, he would have to leave. The room filled with silence as the judge ushered Aoki to leave as he began to walk out the front door, back into the cold, snow white streets again.

"Hey. Use my sheet music."

A single voice echoed throughout the entire room and Aoki's pupils dilated with shock, and in a moment's notice, he instinctively turned around to face who's voice it happened to be. It was the beautiful girl, with skin as white as the snow, long silky black hair, and red eyes with a black dress that selfishly enveloped everything else around it, standing in the middle of the stage.

"Apologies, it just seemed to me that since Aoki is playing from the same composer that I had been playing from, I felt it was only fair to allow him to use my sheet music"

The girl on stage had talked with a voice that sounded emotionless, it almost felt completely contrasting to how she had performed with how much emotion she had in her playing before. It felt unbelievable it was the same exact person.

"Very well, I believe we could do something to that affect since you do have the music for his piece as well" The Judge calmy stated while shuffling the sheets of papers he held in his hands.

Aoki felt a wave of relief wash over him as he walked deeper into the abyss of the auditorium and closer to the light of the stage, as he approached the staircase to climb onto the stage the girl from before had been slowly making her way down.

"Hey, thank you so much for saving me there, your playing was really pretty you know?"

And as if he had never existed there in the first place the girl walks by him and makes her way to the entrance of the auditorium, only to then leave.
Aoki is left confused as he wonders why she hadn't decided to stay for his performance as well, but he decides to focus on the task at hand as he makes his way over to the piano.

The judge glared at Yuuma with a menacing look as he notices the state that he is in, with tattered clothing that looked as if it had been dipped and dropped into a puddle, and with hair that were so messy it could hardly be considered hair. However, Aoki paid the glares no mind as he continued to make his way onto the stage, into the bright light.

Aoki brilliantly walked over to the set of keys, with a tattered dress suit and a bedhead that completely contrasted the confidence in his movements he took a seat as he stretched his arms and hands out before laying them on the keys, and as if everything that had occurred over the span of the day had not existed his demeanor grew cold. This was it, his moment to shine.
