Flashlight Spirit

The fight had started a few minutes ago. Right now, Bing was reciting an incantation that brought everyone’s attention to him.

“O Divine Spirit, I summon thee!”

Bing was doing some kind of iconic pose in front of everyone. Suddenly, a ball of light was forming out of thin air, floating in the air.

“Dentou!”

A fully summoned spirit appeared. It was a flashlight-looking spirit with tiny eyes and wings. Its size was about a normal flashlight. It looked harmless.

“So he’s a Spirit User, huh.....” Haru thought to himself.

Since the Zum and Bing already knew each other’s fyx skill, they made a strategy beforehand to prepare for the battle. However, on other occasions, they used to work together fighting a common enemy. This meant that this time, it was their first time fighting each other.

Zum made the first move. He conjured 3 sparrow lights, and aimed them at Bing.

“Discharge!”

The three sparrows flew towards Bing rapidly.

Bing moved his palm, aiming it at those sparrows.

“Spotlight!”

The spirit floating above Bing’s shoulder suddenly shot a surging beam of light. It immediately annihilated Zum’s sparrow lights.

“Tch,” Zum exclaimed, frustrated.

Bing then pat his spirit, thanking it.

“Thanks, Dentou-chan!”

The fight continued. Zum conjured another set of sparrows and aimed them at Bing.

However, before Bing was able to destroy them using Dentou’s ‘Spotlight,’ Zum did a certain motion.

He moved his arms like he was controlling the sparrows, like some kind of puppeteer. By controlling them manually, the sparrows were able to evade Bing’s attack and managed to land a hit on him.

“Urgh!”

Bing got shot by one of the sparrows that pierced through his chest. He was not fast enough to dodge it.

Zum’s fyx skill was “Sparrow Light.” He could conjure sparrows made out of light and control them at will. He also had an additional fyx technique called “Target Lock” that could lock on to opponents and follow them around until the sparrow hit an object.

Bing then tried to attack this time, by shooting a laser from Dentou’s mouth at Zum. Unlike its tiny size and its harmless appearance, Dentou could discharge a vast amount of output energy that could wipe out an entire crowd.

By using his sparrows to pull him away, Zum managed to barely evade Bing’s attack. Otherwise, he would have been a goner.

Bing was putting up quite a fight. He did several shots towards Zum, which in the end finally landed a hit. The attack was devastating enough that Zum fell on the ground and had a hard time getting up.

“That beam is deadly.....” Haru murmured.

The two of them were finally getting serious. As both of them were long-range fighters, they were starting to use their special technique.

“Dentou-chan! Flash!”

Suddenly, Bing’s spirit transformed into a bazooka. It became way larger that its original size. The spirit rested on Bing’s shoulder, being held like a literal bazooka.

Zum was starting to panic. He realised that the situation was about to get messy.

Bing’s fyx skill was his Divine Spirit, Dentou. It was an incarnation of a thousand-year old flashlight. By using its owner’s fyx, Dentou was able to compress a concentrated amount of fyx energy and converted it into lumina sorcery before shooting it out, resulting in the vast amount of output energy in the form of a laser ray.

During its normal form, it could shoot out laser that could give a burning sensation upon contact with an opponent. When the release command was chanted, it could turn into a bazooka as its Portable Form that could shoot out even more powerful and laser rays with a wider range by cooperating with its master.

Due to the rarity of Divine Spirits that were born in nature, Dentou was one of the very few ones who had been discovered. Additionally, Bing was the second person known in the nation to had tamed a Divine Spirit and successfully attained a powerful bond necessary for the access of the Portable Form.

“Let’s end this, Dentou-chan.”

Bing was concentrating his last attack using the remaining fyx he had. Due to the wider range of Bing’s current attack, it was highly unlikely that Zum would be able to evade the attack, even if he tried. This was due to the fact that the attacks that Zum received from Bing earlier were finally taking its toll on him.

“Bazooka Flash!”

Bing finally shot his shot, bullseye.

The laser was big enough to even erase a whole house in one hit. It also lasted for about 30 seconds, completely annihilating everything inside it. There was no way that Zum could have dodged that attack.

After the attack was finished, suddenly, sparrows appeared from it.

Turned out, the one that Bing attacked earlier was a clone made from sparrow lights by Zum. It was merely a fake.

“Sorry, Bing.”

Zum appeared right behind him, touching Bing’s back with the palm of his hand.

Unlucky for Bing, the last attack was truly his final attack. Because the Portable Form of Dentou consumed a lot of fyx energy, Bing could only use the bazooka attack once per fight.

Zum shot a sparrow light from the palm of his hand, pierced through Bing from his back. Bing then fell to the ground, passed out. His spirit disappeared, back to the spirit world.

“The winner is....Zum!”

Saaya announced the winner. Zum advanced to the finals.

Next round was Meixia vs Haru. Unlike other members of the squad, Meixia was the only person who was familiar with Haru since they sparred with each other multiple times in the past.

Saaya promptly blew the whistle, signaling the fight.

Unlike the others, Meixia was very quick on her toes. She always made the first move, as she deemed it vital to always make a quick decision during a fight.

Meixia drew her blaster hanging on her waist. She aimed it at Haru, shooting him with light blasts.

“It’s been so long, Haru.”

The two best friends finally faced each other off in a fight as Sacred Guards of the Temple.
