Ababiel Squad part III: Furry Ogre vs Warrior Monk

The final ogre wrecked havoc near the Royal Residence’s front gate. It was blocking the exit for the people who were being evacuated by the Royal Guards. In order to reduce the damages that it caused, the Commander-in-Chief of Sohei Department–– Shibomusa–– faced it off on his own and tried to attract its attention to himself.

The ogre was about 45 feet tall, the tallest compared to the ones Kamikawa and Naganobu fought. It was covered in fur, with the appearance similar to a black bear. It had long and slender limbs with its arms could reach the ground if it hunched a few degrees forward. Due to its long limbs, it had a wide range attack that could reach the distance of yards away by swinging its arms.

Shibomusa tried to get close to the ogre, but the civvie around him were getting in his way. He then decided to lure the ogre away from the front gate to have a better fighting arena.

The two of them then reached the field. With nobody else around, Shibomusa could fight without risking any casualties. He then drew his weapon to get himself prepared to fight the ogre.

Shibomusa used a giant hammer weighing about 5 ton with a long handle. His fyx skill Whac-a-More allowed him to deliver an additional impact from his hammer every time it hit an enemy, pushing them away. Most enemies Shibomusa fought so far had never been able to block his attacks without losing their footing.

Seeing Shibomusa drew his weapon already, the ogre threw a punch at him using its long arm. Shibomusa then swung his hammer to slam it against the ogre’s fist. The two attacks clashed, creating a huge impact.

Surprisingly, Shibomusa got pushed away by the ogre’s attack and the ogre’s arm retracted after the contact. However, the ogre could still hold its ground. This was the first time Shibomusa ever fought an opponent who could withstand his hammer attacks.

The ogre then tried using its other arm to slam Shibomusa. Shibomusa dodged it and climbed on its arm, trying to find its core while exploring its body. The ogre swung the arm that Shibomusa was climbing, trying to make him fall. Yet, Shibomusa was nimble enough to keep his balance and continued his exploration to scan the ogre’s core.

Unlike other members of Ababiel Squad, Shibomusa was experienced in fighting monsters as he was a former member of the Exorcism Regiment. He was able to use Core Scanning ability by coating his eyes with medix to scan for the ogre’s core. After a quick scan, he was able to detect where its core was.

Before Shibomusa was able to strike its core, the ogre whacked him with its other arm. Shibomusa could barely dodge it, but he lost balance and fell to the ground. He needed another opportunity to climb back up to destroy its core.

The ogre then tried to find a nearest rock around. It then grabbed a huge boulder and threw it at Shibomusa.

Surprised by the attack, Shibomusa then swung his hammer to crack the boulder. Luckily, he managed to block the attack and destroyed the boulder into pieces. Had he been a second late, he would have been smashed into pieces by the giant boulder.

The ogre noticed that Shibomusa had detected its core. It then tried to keep the distance by throwing giant boulders at him. Shibomusa was too focused on dodging the ogre’s thrown boulders that he could not think of a way to get close to the ogre.

Suddenly, Shibomusa got hit by a boulder that he couldn’t see because his vision was blocked by another boulder in front of it. Shibomusa got a fatal hit and sent a few yards away from his original spot.

“Urgh....”

Although he tried to block it using his hammer, he still received the impact from the boulder hitting against his body. He was currently bleeding all over his body.

Another boulder was coming towards Shibomusa, thrown by the ogre. The ogre took the opportunity to finish him off while he was badly injured. Unable to move, Shibomusa closed his eyes, accepting his fate.

“Chief!”

Suddenly, he heard someone calling him and immediately opened his eyes. In front of him, he saw a samurai sliced off a boulder that was coming towards him in half. He saved Shibomusa from getting hit by the boulder again.

A kunoichi* also came and sat beside Shibomusa and healed his wounds using medix healing. She treated his wounds so that he could continue fighting.

“Naganobu! Kamikawa!”

Ababiel Squad came to the rescue.

After dispelling the other 2 ogres, Naganobu and Kamikawa went to Shibomusa to help him in his battle. Even though the two of them were exhausted and had little to no fyx energy left, they came to their chief to help him.

“Chief! We’ll handle these boulders. In the meantime, you get close to him and destroy his core!” Naganobu shouted.

“After I’m done healing, I’ll clear the way for you,” Kamikawa said.

Seeing that the furry ogre was stronger and more intelligent than the other two ogres that appeared in the Royal Residence, Kamikawa and Naganobu agreed to help Shibomusa by working together to defeat it. Shibomusa accepted their offer and followed through the plan that they discussed earlier.

After sharing some information about the furry ogre to his members, Shibomusa then immediately went to the ogre to get to its core. In front of him, Kamikawa secured his way to get to the ogre by crushing the boulders that Naganobu sliced into smithereens.

By hiding behind the boulders that it threw, the ogre didn’t see where Shibomusa was. Thinking that he was already crushed by the boulders, the ogre tried to crush the other two members who came to the scene.

Shibomusa suddenly appeared next to the ogre and jumped to climb its leg. The ogre was shocked to see him and frantically tried to shake him off of its leg. Kamikawa distracted him by throwing light shurikens at its eyes to block its vision. Since he stopped throwing boulders, Naganobu also came to help by slicing its legs to make it fumble and fall to the ground.

Shibomusa then finally reached the location of the ogre’s core, right at the centre of its back. He then swung his hammer with all his might towards its core. The core was shattered from the impact of Shibomusa’s hammer and got crushed into tiny fragments. Having its core destroyed, the furry ogre then vanished into thin air and finally got dispelled.

The Ababiel Squad won against the ogres.
