Chapter 58:

Chapter 58. Feirvenn Academy

Zero to Hero (Prequel/prototype)

After a rough start, the rest of the stay in Feirvenn fared much better for the pair as Genesis led Ken around the city and the two visited most of the major attractions the city had to offer while enjoying each other’s company and grew even closer.

“Let’s go visit Feirvenn Academy. When I was in Yelwraek and Darrumburgh, I didn’t even go visit the academy in those two cities.” Ken proclaimed as the pair enjoyed some breakfast after spending a few days touring the city.

“What’s there to see anyways? School is on break right now so there shouldn’t even be anyone there.” Genesis replied, not interested in visiting a school.

“Nope! From what I heard, unlike Dragonspire where we are from all over the world and all go home during the break. A lot of the students are local at the other schools and quite a few would stick around to use the school’s facilities. Besides, who cares if it’s empty! Let’s go check it out and see what the other schools are like! I have never seen another school before since I have never been until I was selected!” Ken said happily as he grabbed Genesis’s hand as the pair headed out from the restaurant.

After Ken flagged down a carriage and asked to be taken to the academy, the pair enjoyed the scenic views as the carriage strolled through the town, heading towards the academy.

“WOW! This academy looks even better than the king’s castle we visited yesterday! I guess it doesn’t have to be Dragonspire for an academy to be rich compared to everything else in town.” Ken commented, impressed by the massive stone castle ground that’s much more impressive looking compared to the regular clay buildings.

“Here is the entrance!” Ken said excitedly as the pair walked around the premise of the academy.

“How are we going to get inside? We aren’t students here.” Genesis asked as the two arrived at the closed front entrance gates without a guard in sight.

Similar to Dragonspire where the entrance gates are mostly closed unless there are major events going on, the students and staff are able to enter freely through the side door with their bracelets as activation, something similar seemed to be implanted here as well where a closed rotating gate prevented the pair from entering the academy. .

“I guess we have to wait to see if any guards show up to let us in or if any students or staff happen to be around. Or I can just jump us in and see what happens.” Ken replied as he wandered around looking for someone to let them through the gates.

“Do you two need some help? Are you looking to enroll?” A voice asked from behind.

“We are just trying to see if we can get a tour of the place.” Ken answered happily as he turned around to greet the person who just spoke to them.

“Oh. I know you. You are the lover boy.” The woman replied as Ken turned around.

“Yvette Aster! Why is one of the top ten heroes here?” Ken asked as he came face to face the beautiful human hero who served as the hero for the kingdom of Feirvenn.

“I mean, I am the hero hired by this country. Shouldn’t I be here in Feirvenn’s capital city? The real question is why you, lover boy who’s life is in dire danger, is wandering around carelessly.” Yvette asked as she observed Ken curiosity.

“Ken! Stop staring at her! You are in this mess because of your lust!” Genesis scolded as she started pinching Ken’s cheeks.

“Calm down Genesis. All of the heroes are older than 50 or 60 right? I am sure she is married or something.” Ken replied as he started pinching Genesis back.

“If I hear you implying I am old one more time, I will take you out on the spot and present your head to the king of Yelwraek.” Yvette replied as she guided the pair through the gates.

“Do you swing by the academy often? In my mind, I was expecting the top heroes to be chilling with the nobles and royals at parties and only put in the effort when the tournament is about to take place.” Ken asked casually as the pair followed Yvette.

“You think we are able to keep our spots at the top without putting in the effort? I don’t know about the other’s training routine but I can assure you that every single one of us trains almost daily and has more intense workouts than an average person can ever imagine.”

“Makes sense, it should take hard work! This girl here learned space magic in three days with no training or guidance but has no desire to get stronger at all and is just wasting her talent away.” Ken replied, trying to push Genesis one more time to see if he could motivate the girl.

“Three days for space magic? Good thing she isn’t motivated or some of us might have to worry about our top ten spots.” Yvette replied while showing some interest in Genesis for the first time.

“Does the students here at Feirvenn gets to train with you?” Ken asked as they walked by a few random students and staff of which all showed great respect and bowed as they walked by Yvette.

“I am actually on my way to the training facility for my special session. You two are free to wander around since I know you are harmless or if you want to attend the lesson, you are welcome to join.” Yvette offered as Ken happily accepted while Genesis moaned that their alone time was getting cut down.

When the three arrived at the large training facility similar to the size at Dragonspire. The place was already filled with 20 or so students of all ages waiting patiently for Yvette’s arrival.

“Hi everyone. Got special guests joining us today. Please welcome lover boy and Genesis from Dragonspire. All of you probably know him from his recent stunt during the tournament. He just finished his 3rd year but is already above master level in both elemental and physical enhancement while also able to boost. This cutie here learned how to use space magic in 3 days without any training so you all can see first hand just how talented and special those that got accepted to Dragonspire are and how much you have to train to make up the difference.” Yvette advised the students as some stared in awe and admiration while others in envy and jealousy.

“How often do you swing by and train the students?” Ken asked curiously as the number of students seemed far less than he would expect for some personal coaching from one of the top heroes.

“Anyone attending the Feirvenn academy is free to join my lessons. But after one lesson and if they don’t measure up to my standard, they won’t be welcomed back. Of course, without my permission, they won’t be able to enter the facility during my lessons.” Yvette answered matters of factly.

“Well, Genesis here definitely won’t be welcomed back but please let her just sit in the corner as a cheerleader.” Ken replied with a smirk as he got kicked in the shin.

“I would rather we not be here in the first place and spend our alone time sightseeing.” Genesis pouted, not happy at all.

“Anyways, Mrs. Aster. What exactly do you teach the students?” Ken asked, fully intending to learn as much as he could from one of the top ten.

“Just call me Yvette. As the hero hired by Feirvenn, part of my duty to the kingdom is to train the young so if there is ever conflict, they aren’t solely depending on outsiders such as myself and the royal army would have competent soldiers.” Yvette replied while the students got in position.

“I assume every hero does something similar for the kingdom they serve?” Ken asked, eager to learn more about the world.

“Yep. Obviously it’s better for the likes of Yelwraek, Darrumburgh, Kirksawald and Sraederham where the heroes are from the kingdom they are serving. For the likes of me where I am originally from Darrumburgh, if the day ever comes where Darrumburgh was to invade, I am sure the king would question where my loyalty lies.”

“So which kingdom would you defend?” Ken asked curiously.

“You really don’t know when to stop, do you? Thankfully the world has been at peace for 2000 years and Darrumburgh is half a world away so the chance of them invading is zero.” Yvette replied, dodging the question completely.

After chatting with the hero for as long as he could. She shooed him off so they could start the lesson and training with the patiently waiting students.

“So what you are saying is you can’t help me improve?” Ken asked in disappointment after Yvette explained her specialty and what she does with the students to make them stronger.

“Aren’t you a cocky one? I said my specialty is to figure out the strength of each individual and help them train it to the maximum in that area. I assume you are implying you don’t have any weaknesses?” Yvette replied.

“As a matter of fact. I actually don’t think I have any weaknesses. All my physical traits, all my elements, everything I train grows at the exact same rate where I don’t have any single area that falls behind.” Ken replied confidently.

“It’s good to be confident but if you don’t change your way of thinking, even with your overwhelming talent, you won’t ever make it to the top ten. Most of the top talents don’t hit that wall until divine level, what if it’s not that you don’t have any weaknesses but every field is equally as weak and flawed?” Yvette questioned.

“You know. I guess people have only ever told me how talented and fast I learned things and I have never thought about things from the other point of view.” Ken replied as he eagerly followed Yvette’s instructions and did everything she asked so he could get stronger.

“Well. There is no doubt you are gifted and you really don’t have any noticeable weaknesses and I can see you have been training hard. Obviously the professors at Dragonspire are top tier and are training you properly.” Yvette advised after finishing the session and like all of the students, she was thoroughly impressed by Ken’s abilities.

“How long do you think I would need to keep training before I can take a spot from the current top 10? I don’t want to give the king of Yelwraek too long to decide he would rather have me dead.” Ken asked.

“Not a shy one are you? If you could keep up this insane growth rate, maybe within 5 years? But then again, there have been plenty of hyped up kids over the years and none had made it yet. That Vincent kid in your school was highly coveted a few years back but once he reached divine level, the wall hit and he has been struggling like almost every other kid who reaches that level. The only young one with any potential right now is that Fernard kid who didn’t go to Dragonspire. He is probably the closest one to be able to challenge the current top 10.” Yvette answered casually.

After thanking Yvette, Ken and Genesis left the training facility with the rest of the students where Ken decided to treat the entire group to a nice dinner so he could chat and learn more about their training regiments with Yvette, their school life and just how life is here in Feirvenn in general. Obviously, Genesis was grumpy the entire time and pretty much ignored anyone that tried to talk to her and spent the entire time making sure none of the girls would catch Ken’s attention.

“Well Yvette. It’s been a great week training with you and the rest. You have definitely taught me alot about the fundamentals and given me a good idea on what I should do to grow stronger!” Ken said wholeheartedly after coming and attending the training daily for the remaining days of his trip to Feirvenn.

“It’s fun for me as well. Rarely do I get to train with someone who could possibly surpass me one day and I will be looking forward to your growth.”

“I will take that as you won’t be trying to take my life if I ever take your job?” Ken replied with a smirk.

“If you want to aim high, then aim for the top and take over Julius’s job in Darrumburgh while also surpassing Zishell. I am sure Julius is too proud to ever serve another kingdom so my job will also be safe.” Yvette replied with a laugh as Ken thanked the hero once again for her tips and pointers during the week while also saying goodbye to all of the students and wishing them the best of luck.

“I can’t believe we have to go back already! I barely had you to myself because you kept going to those stupid lessons every single day!.” Genesis complained as the pair enjoyed dinner at a nice restaurant for their final meal where Genesis refused to let Ken invite any of the others.

“I enjoyed my time with you too Genesis. Spending quality time together alone is definitely nice. But you know as well as I do that I need to get stronger and having a top ten hero training me is not something I could miss. speaking of which, I sure do miss everyone else as well.” Ken replied as he shoved food into his mouth.

“You know, Ken. You are a terrible boyfriend and will make a terrible husband. Who goes around saying they miss other girls when I am here trying to be romantic on the last night we get to be alone together.”

“Genesis. You know I suck at all the romantic things. All I know is what I want, who I want to be with and how to say what’s on my mind.” Ken replied defensively.

“Exactly! Which makes you terrible! You are such a womanizer who sucks at being a romantic! I don’t understand why so many girls are so into you! I have to do everything I could to make sure none of those girls in the stupid class would fall for you when all you do is show off!” Genesis pouted.

“Why are you so into me when I am so terrible?” Ken asked with a smile while hugging Genesis.

“All Alice’s fault. If you weren’t her freaking soulmate, we wouldn’t have fallen in your trap and now I’m in too deep to ever get out.”

“Good. Whatever trap you are talking about, it better have trapped you forever. No matter how terrible you think I am, you better not ever leave me for some other guy.”

“Higher chance of you getting murdered by one of those top brass you pissed off than me ever leaving you.” Genesis replied, reminding Ken that his life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows and sleeping with beautiful girls.

“Thanks for bringing me back to reality. Guess once school starts, it’s back to studying and training so I can get as strong as possible and not end up getting murdered.”

After finishing their dinner, the pair returned to their hotel room to turn in for the night where Genesis made sure she got the most out of her last night alone with Ken before the pair teleported back to the academy early next morning.

“KEN!” Before Ken could turn around to greet the excited girls as he was grabbed and raised into the air by Seraphina.

“Seraphina! Can you put me down please.” Ken complained as he got spun around like a princess.

“You know Ken, I was thinking over the break and it’s so not fair that Genesis got to be alone with you after you got rid of the protection while I didn’t get to do anything with you when you were in Vespera.” Alice complained as the vampire girl grabbed Ken from Seraphina to get some fresh blood.

“I didn’t even get to have him alone! He was going to this stupid training daily at the academy!” Genesis replied while complaining to the rest about Ken’s adventure in Feirvenn.

“I assume Gwen didn’t make it?” Ken asked as he surveyed the room.

“No, she wasn’t selected but she took it well and wasn’t all that upset.” Emma answered.

“Poor Gwen. She is so smart. I wish she could have gotten selected.” Ken said disappointingly.

“If we can sort out the mess you are in and I can get back on my father’s good side. I am sure we can get her into the Yelwraek academy.” Clare added, just another reminder for Ken that he is not going to have an easy life.

“Yeah. Not sure how that’s possible anytime soon. At least I’m glad Cecilla is here and I didn’t have to go crazy and break into Yelwraek and rescue the princess.” Ken added, happy to see that Cecilla wasn’t affected in the mess he created at the tournament.

“Did you think about how to get out of all the mess while you were on break? Or were you too busy getting it on with Genesis to remember everything else?” Cecilla asked as the group got settled in the comfort of their luxurious suite.

“Weren’t you listening to her complaining? I was training my butt off even during break! I don’t have any connection or power to make the king of Yelwraek change his mind. The only thing I can do is get stronger I guess. Strong enough that he recognizes my potential and tries to recruit me instead of killing me.” Ken replied as he slumped down on the sofa not wanting to think about all the complicated things.

“No point thinking about what and ifs. If anyone tries to harm you, I will just jump in to protect you!” Lovetta said confidently while snuggled with Ken on the sofa.

“Thanks Lovetta. Hopefully the likes of Luke is no longer a bother after I destroyed him but Xandrian might be a pain now. I think I will go and see if I can sign up for some exchange program this semester and try to get as strong as I can.” Ken wondered, and suddenly decided it was a great idea especially after getting the training with Yvette. Getting up from the sofa, the young man headed for the staff room with his girls quickly following behind.

“Wherever you are going, I am coming with you.” Cecilla commented.

“No way! None of us are at master level. We can’t let Cecilla be with you alone! You will just end up having sex all day and night and do nothing else.” Alice protested.

“Ken! Why would you let them bully me! Not my fault they don’t have my level of talent and haven’t reached master level to sign for any exchange! Why do I have to suffer?” Cecilla asked.

“Sorry Cecilla. It’s my fault. I realize I have too many girls and feelings to consider and it’s hard to be fair with everyone. I think it’s best if I don’t have too many distractions while doing my exchange so I should go alone.” Ken apologized as Cecilla complained while Alice and the rest breathed a sigh of relief.

After speaking with the staff to send in his exchange requests, the group decided to go into town to celebrate their reunion and spent the rest of the day having a great time chatting and laughing and ended the day with a feast at their favorite restaurant in town with a table filled to the brim with delicious food.
