Chapter 4:
Fisherman System In A New World
"What??"
At first I gave a startled response, not sure how to respond to the a rubtness of the system. Under my breath, I mumbled; "Well that wasn't an option for a thought until you brought it up."
The system didn't respond immediately, almost as if it was stuck in a lag. I flexed my lips in disapproval of the lack of response till the system rang with a low voice; "Ok."
I released a stressful gasp from my lungs and slid onto the bed, with my arms spread out.
[System]
You aren't the only one with an RPG system. Other humans, from both your clan and other clans, and beasts alike do battle furiously for the elixir or life. So it's very competitive. But strangely enough, there isn't a single person or beast with a system currently affiliated with the Fire clan. For context, you'll see atleast five people with systems in a clan, not counting beasts.
"Oh!" This certainly felt strange to me, given the princess seemed to suspect something with me. 'Why don't they have anyone with a system in their ranks? I'd assume they would have those who transmigrated to their clan."
[System]
That information isn't with me. I'm not as omniscient as you think.
I turned my head in wonder. "So why then did the princess seem to know something about me?"
The system gave no response. I sighed, already tired of talking to what others would perceive as myself.
"Tell me how this system works anyways," I said. I didn't even know how this worked so far.

The jargons that now showed on the floating screen seemed to carry me to a place I knew not. I didn't bother stressing about it and just asked the system to explain things.
[System]
What would you like me to explain in this tab?
"Well everything!' I exclaimed, now feeling impatient and a bit annoyed.
[System]
Be specific!
"Oh, barf!" I really couldn't remember the last time the nerves in my body spiked with annoyance and frustration as this.
[System]
You need to calm down and understand this page. This is the home page containing everything you need to know about your system. Each item has a help function attached to help you understand its use.
At this point I sat up, wondering why it didn't just say this at the beginning.
[System]
That's because you have a wild temper.
The system said all these while still displaying the home page. Just as I was about to enter another fit of rage, I somehow arrested it with a deep breath, in self reflection that I was perhaps flipping from my normally calm demeanor. I lay back down on the bed, trying to clear my mind of worry.
"Ok then. Can you kindly explain each points in the home screen to me?" I asked, almost sheepishly.
The system erased the whole screen, now showing four dots, with the last one beeping rhythmically to show that the screen was trying to load a page.
[System]
Firstly, class and level.
Class, lvl (level) - Classes are divided into four. The higher the class, the stronger the system from Class 1 to Class 4. Under each class there are five levels to cross, from Level 1 through to Level 5 in increasing order of power.
Your system is currently rated Class 1 Level 1, the lowest possible.
"It had to be huh?" I asked rhetorically, wondering how much power difference I would have with other people like the princess in Esteria.
[System]
Next, Basic XP (experience ) - The points system that determines classes. A Class 1 Level 2 system will have more basic XP than a Class 1 Level 1 system. Each subunit under the basic XP has a max of 20 XP per level. Once a level is maxed out, a player levels up to the next higher level. Once a player maxes out all five levels in a class, the player levels up to the next higher class, and so on. Note, you gain XP as you use your system more. Your system automatically levels up a subunit once it achieves that you've developed it.
"So more or less total experiences gained huh? This really is like a game afterall."
[System]
This is the division of your total XP;
Basic XP - 57
Attack - 8
Defence - 6
Stamina - 14
Agility - 7
Intelligence - 12
Concentration - 10
I perused this tab long and hard, wondering how considerably weak I was in attack and defence yet had alot of stamina and intelligence relatively. Given each had a max of 20 per level, I expected concentration and especially agility to be much higher, given my fisherman history.
And to think you couldn't manually increase your stats but the system did it automatically for you based on its whims? I also wondered why stamina and agility were separated from each other, intelligence and concentration too. Much less how easy it'll be to improve the system.
[System]
Attack - Ability to deal opponent(s) damage. Your attacking techniques will depend on your clan; Fire clan uses fire to attack, Water clan uses water to attack, Air clan uses air, Earth clan uses earth.
Defence - Ability to withstand/ absorb damage. Your defending techniques will depend on your clan; Fire clan uses fire to defend, Water clan uses water to defend, Air clan uses air, Earth clan uses earth.
Stamina - Ability to battle for extended periods and withstand damage before HP begins to deplete significantly
Agility - Faculty that concerns ease and speed of mind and body in dealing with situations to avoid damage
Intelligence - Ability of a player to access and use resources within and without the system, and to win battles wisely even by small moments.
Concentration - Ability of a player to stay focussed and control abilities within and without system for extended periods.
The latest tab showed some clarity on details I needed, but I still felt I would need to see them at play to really understand their true functions, apart from the really obvious attack and defence.
[System]
HP - HP is health points and determines how much health a player has. Never let it reach zero or you die. HP is used in battle.
System HP - This is the health status of your system. Recharge it with the elixir of life and never let it reach zero percent. This can also be used as a currency among players. Note, using your system more depletes your system HP, as it's the fuel of the system.
"Hmm. So this is why the elixir is so important eh? This system truly is a parasite. Everything feels like a forced symbiosis you know," I said to the system rather calmly. I knew I had to be careful in my immediate confrontations to avoid my XO depleting fast. Then there was the problem of overusing the system and fast depleting the system XP.
[System]
Clan - Determines which clan you belong to.
"Goes without saying."
[System]
Battle Craft - Determines what special craft you have at your disposal for battle. The stronger your craft, the stringer you'll be in battle. You can use this as a trump card when facing more difficult opponents with higher levels to defeat them. Note, you can only obtain one battle craft, unless you're at a very high level to be able to hold multiple crafts.
Your Battle Craft is Aquatic Summons, based on your fisherman past and your fisherman system.
I pouted, pretending to really understand. "Next please."
[System]
Inventory - This is the store for special equipments so obtained, like swords.
More - More info.
"Do I have anything in my inventory?" I asked the system.
[System]
No! Go and hustle for stuff.
