Chapter 9:

The Mysteriuos Forest part 3

Your Wish

Periphirilia and Gorge succeeded in creating some tools, such as a spear, a fishing rod, two axes, and shovels.

"I want a sword."
Proclaims Gorge.

"We don't have the time right now for wants!
It's getting darker already, and we have barely begun cutting wood.
There is no way we will put the boat in the water today.
This means we will have to spend at least one night in this forest.
Let's drop the work for today and focus on preparing for the night."
Explains Periphirilia

"Sure, whatever, let's just do as you say."
Mockingly agrees Gorge

"Maybe we could hide in the ship?"

"That seems like a good option, but there are two problems.
First, the creatures come to the shore to drink, meaning we would be positioned straight into the hotspot of their activity.
Second, it appears that the fisherman was running away from the ship, which means that it's not safe to stay there and that it has been breached before."

"Hmm, didn't you say you went there before when you grabbed the oil?"

"I did, but it was dark, and I grabbed the first thing I found there. I have no idea what the actual condition is inside there."

"Wanna go check it out?"
Suggest gorge

"Don't forget that we are on a limited schedule and must make this quick.
Most definitely no detours."

"Haha, okay, let's do it."
Gorge smiles as he's eager to embark on yet another adventure.

I wonder if we'll discover anything interesting there.
They both move towards the shore, passing an increasing number of strange animals and trees they have never seen before.

"Wow, look at that !"
Gorge points to a strange animal with a giraffe-like head but a lower body resembling a fish with a snake-like neck. It is drifting downstream in a tiny pond connecting to the river.

Periphirilia:

"That's most definitely one of the weirdest things we have seen yet."

"Do you think it's a whale?"

.....

Sigh

"Of course not. Do you even know what a whale is?"

"Well, of course, I know."
Is she stupid or something? He thinks to himself.

"Well, what is it then?"

"It's a very big fish," replies Gorge.

"Well, that's wrong, and that thing doesn't even look like a fish, does it?"

Periphirilia is getting a bit angry.

"Hey, no need to get angry now; it's not my fault that that thing is some kind of weirdo."
Gorge jumps on top of a rock,
"Heyyyy, look, the ship is over there!
Let's hurry it. The sun is setting already. Look, even that weird giraffe fish is leaving."

All the animals that were enjoying life just moments ago started to go into hiding as an ominous mood filled the air.

"How long do you think it will be until the sun sets?"

Periphirilia thinks for a moment.

"About 3 hours, but it would be good to get ready just in case.
If something goes wrong tonight, we're done for.
Since we can't take any chances, we must stay awake the entire night.
We won't be able to sleep during the day either since we will be working on a ship.
And we can't afford to stay another night here either.
So our only chance is to get the ship running tomorrow and sleep on the ship in the water."

"Since we will stay awake the entire night, do you want to play some games?"

Periphirilia blushes

"What kind of games? You know this is not the time for this."

"You know, the sleepover games
This is just like a sleepover."
Explains gorge

"What's a sleepover game?" Asks Periphirilia confused

"I don't know; I've never been to one."
Gorge says while he looks a bit embarrassed.

"We are already close to the ship; we don't need to worry about how we'll pass the time during the night. Since this is a matter of life and death, let's concentrate on exploring first.."

"Yes, sir!"
Salutes Gorge

They enter the ship.
Both of them look around, but the old ship is mostly deserted.

"Owww," Gorgre just tripped on something and hit his head.
"Something made me fall.
Is it a ghost?
I think this place is totally haunted. We need to leave like right now."

When Gorge turns to see what tripped him, he notices a bone and immediately begins to scream. "Ahhhhh!"

Periphirilia rushes over and lights the area with a torch.
There is a leg bone and a bunch of old, dried-up blood.

"Quick, look at that !!!" shouts Gorge, pointing to a small hole at the ship's side.

"This is very bad." Says Periphirilia

"Whatever came through this hole and killed the fishermen.
It was strong enough to instantly sewer his leg."

Periphirilia lights the floor.
"Look at the dust." She says

"There are numerous footprints that have similarities to one another all over the place.
Whatever killed him likely made its home here.
Being here is no longer safe.
We need to find a different place for the night," says Periphirilia.

"Let's stay at the pit again. I wonder if that blob thing is still alive down there." Suggests Gorge

"No way we are doing that. Did you forget that we almost died and got surrounded by monsters twice while in there?
And we only went there at the very end of the night.
There is no way we can survive an entire night in there.
Even if the first few monsters that jump down die or get injured, the pit will fill up quickly.
We need a different place to hide."
Explains Periphirilia

"Hmmmmm, we have already checked all over the forest in the surrounding area looking for the wood and stuff.
And we don't have much time left.
Maybe we should check around the shore?"

"Seems like the only option we have left," agrees Periphirilia.

They exit the ship; it's gotten even darker outside.
Periphirilia looks around nervously.

"We probably have less than an hour left before the sun sets...
Let's hurry and find something good."

"You know this is kind of exciting?"

"Hey, focus!" She says loudly.

"Oh, yeah, well, I bet I can find a good place to stay before you." Smugly declares Gorge

"You are on!" Periphirilia accepts the challenge without hesitation.

"The winner gets to pick the games we play at night."

"Deal!" Agrees Periphirilia

Even the birds and insects have left the forest, which is already quiet. Gorge and Periphirilia are now becoming anxious.
No shelter is in sight, and the night is closing quickly.
They are strolling along the sandy beach.

"Ahhhh!!!" Screams Gorge.

Periphirilia looks around, and he's nowhere to be seen.

"Hey, Gorge ...
Are you okay?
Where are you?"

"Omg, I have found it."

"Found what? Where are you?"
Periphirilia is starting to get worried.

"I have tripped again. Look, there...
There is a cave there."

And indeed, there was a cave.

However...

Periphirilia looks concerned.

"Ummhh,the entrance..
Isn't it kind of small? How did you even get in there?"

"Don't worry; it's a bit wider inside. Well, it most definitely fits.
There are even rocks inside.
Since the entrance is so small, we can easily block it for the night."

The last sound of birds can be heard before night begins; it's right around the corner.

Periphirilia rushes inside.

They work hard and eventually block off the entrance.
