Chapter 12:

Storm

Your Wish

"Wow, a real ship; it must have been a blessing in disguise when our boat broke; look, it even has a wheel."

"I wouldn't exactly call our experience since our boat got broken good luck, but with this, our chances of reaching our destination increase exponentially." Periphirilia sounds relieved.

"Look at all those animals on the shore- with this ship, we're just sailing right by them like they don't even exist. The remainder of this journey is going to be a breeze."

"Yeah, I don't expect any more disturbances."

I really wish that we could find the golden carp soon. The little ghost thinks to himself. As the ship continues to sail forward, many animals gather on the shore to look at it as the ship passes by them.

It's almost like they are cheering us on. Thinks Gorge.

The sun is starting to settle down. It gets darker.

Periphirilia yawns.

"I think we should take this opportunity to get some sleep," Proposes Gorge.

"Who's going to steer the ship if we both sleep?

Periphirilia looks a bit confused.

Maybe she doesn't have a lot of experience with ships.

"No one; we just need to drop an anchor, and we will stay in place."

"Sigh, I can't believe I will be getting some sleep soon. Honestly, I don't think I have ever been this exhausted before."

I guess I'm pretty tired as well. Should we go to sleep now? Gorge thinks about what they should do next, but then he blurts out:

"If you are that tired, we could just drop the anchor now and settle for the night; it will be dark soon anyways. Before that, we should move away from the shore and closer to the middle of the river, just in case some of those weird night animals decide to try their luck at swimming."

"Sure, let's do that."

''Hey, you want to sleep in the same bed?"

Periphirilia blushes

"Where did this come from?"

"I mean, we did sleep together a lot already, but not in the same bed, and it looks like it's going to be pretty chilly tonight, so we might as well sleep in the same bed."

"Okay, do we even have a blanket?"

I believe I saw one on the lower deck. I think, was it a blanket? Wait, what would happen if we slept without a blanket? Well, who cares? We are just going to have to wing it.

"Yeah, I saw one. Okay, let's drop ancor now."

"Gorge, it's getting dark already; we are going to sleep early today; it shouldn't be that dark yet."

"Maybe we miscalculated? It's not like we have a clock or anything."

"I guess, so are we going to sleep now?"

Gorge looks at the sky.

It's pretty cloudy; it could rain tonight.

"I think we should sleep below deck tonight; the air is pretty chilly, and it's not even night yet, plus it looks like it could rain any time now."

"Fine, let's go."

Gorge and Periphirilia descend to the lowest deck and get ready to sleep. Both are a little anxious to share a bed for the first time.

I hope we both fit in the bed. I don't want to sleep on the floor. Gorge thinks anxiously.

Although they are a little excited, they nod off as soon as they get into bed.

Gorge wakes up sometime later.

Uh, it's so hot. I should have slept on the floor.

Drip, drip, drip, the water starts dripping faster and louder from the upper decks.

"Ahhh!!!" George gets scarred by water, suddenly splashing him.

That's weird; I don't think that it's raining now. I most definitely can't hear anything. Did it not rain before and cause a lot of water to accumulate on the main deck? But I don't think it would be possible to sleep through a storm like that, regardless of how tired we were. I think I better check it out before the ship gets damaged. Gorge proceeds to go to the upper deck in partial darkness.

Damn, I can't see anything. I wish that I had a torch. Gorge exits the cabin and carefully makes his way towards the stairs leading to the second deck( there are three decks total): the bottom deck, the middle deck, which is used mostly for storage, and the upper deck, which is well, the main area of the ship.

Gorge carefully starts climbing the stairs, reaches out his hand, and carefully opens the door. He is abruptly thrown back down the stairs by a downpour of water. What the hell was that?! This might be more urgent than I had thought. I better hurry. Gorge quickly makes his way up to the second floor and gets surprised. The downpour of water is even stronger now; it feels almost like an ongoing storm, even though it doesn't feel like it's raining right now.

He continues to walk forward as more and more water drips on him. Finally, he reached the stairs to the upper deck. The stairs are dry, and no water is dripping above them. I thought the main deck must be overflowing with leftover water from the rain, but how much water could there possibly be for it to drip so profusely?

Gorge has reached the upper floor. He's about to open the main deck door but stops. What's that weird creaking sound? It sounds almost as if hundreds of people are dancing on the deck. Gorge silently walks up to the wall and places his eye near the small hole.

The entire part of the main deck is completely covered by fish- and amphibian-looking monsters. They are about the size of a small to medium fish, and their bodies look like a mix of a fish and an amphibian; the body is fish shaped but with amphibian skin instead of fish gills, an amphibian head with shark teeth, legs, and fins at the same time. Suddenly, Monster also peeks through the hole, and their eyes meet. Gorge falls. He can hear the onslaught of monsters rushing towards the door.

"I have to run as fast as possible! I need to warn Periphirilia!"

Gorge stumbles through the water-filled middle deck. He's falling, yet he keeps going forward without stopping. He falls down the middle deck's stairs to the bottom deck. The monsters have reached the middle deck already; you can hear the water splashing as they rush down. He finally makes it down to their bedroom.

I need to block the door right now.

"Wake up!"

Periphirilia suddenly wakes up.

"What's going on? She asks nervously

"Help me move this cupboard to block the door!"

"Why? What's going on?!"

"Now !" Screams Gorge

She joins him, and they block the door pretty quickly.

Phew, I made it. I think maybe we should also hide. Just in case...

"Let's go to the closet right now. Take that broom and use it to block the door!"

Periphirilia nods in agreement while trembling.

Both of them enter the closet. They are squeezed tight.

I can feel her breathing. I don't think we have ever been this close before. It's even warmer than when we were sleeping.

"What the hell is going on?''

"Okay, ill explain."

"I saw water dripping from the upper floors so fast that it seemed like a huge storm was going on outside, but the water felt calm, and I didn't think there was a storm. So I checked it out and found the whole main deck covered with some weird fish monsters.

"What ?"

"To make matters worse, they have found me out and are chasing me. We have blocked the door, but just in case, I think it would be good to hide in the closet since there are thousands of them."

Suddenly, they can hear the door being destroyed from outside.

He grabs Periphirilia's hand, and she shuts her eyes.

"It's going to be okay," whispered Gorge. "I'm with you; trust me, and stay quiet, and we will get through this.

"Promise?" asks Periphirilia.

Gorge smiles and extends his hand with his pinky finger raised. They cross their pinkies yet again, and as they continue crossing their pinkies Gorge and Periphirilia listen in silence as thousands of monsters rummage through their room.
