Chapter 03

Working at a cafe has made me forget the majority of my problems if I am being honest with you. The senior prank was so far away from my mind. Yes sometimes I do get random classmates but fortunately, that boy that came in to study has become a regular. I learned his name was Oliver.

Apparently, he even comes in on the weekends. He makes me want to put harder work on my workbooks. With a little under a month left for school, I was hoping to be just as studious as the regular.

"Hey, I didn't realize you worked here?" I wish I didn't have that voice memorized in my brain. I wish my heart forgot how I felt as he was talking to me. I didn't have to look up to know exactly who it was.

"Oh hey! Yup! Anything I can get for you?" He's a customer first. He's a customer first. He's a customer first.

"Oh yeah, um can I get a large brewed coffee? Just black," I nodded ringing it in for him, I told him the told then turned around to get the coffee for him.

"So how have you been?" I nodded as I was pouring his cup.

"Pretty ok! How about you? My brother isn't being too much to handle yeah?" I laughed shaking my head. He laughed as well.

"Never, he's the same as ever, your brother loves you a lot so-" My laugh cut him off.

"Your joking, here's your coffee Drew," the confused look on his face was prominent.

"He does, I mean he's your brother," I nodded.

"That he is," I shrugged. He didn't move or budge but there wasn't a line behind him.

"You know it was his idea for the senior prank right?" I could have smacked him. I nodded.

"Yes, so I don't understand why you think he loves me," I told him before shaking my head. Is he is trying to boost his own ego? What's this dude playing at?

"I mean, that just further proves he does if anything," I shook my head.

"Drew I don't know what you are trying to do here but can you please leave? I am sorry I must have embarrassed you so much so let's just move forward yeah? I mean you are already going into university," he still didn't budge and just stayed in place. I sighed as he still wanted to push this onto me.

"I think you are misunderstanding this-"

"Hey Kara, sorry I'm late!" it was the boy! Oliver.

"Oliver! Are you getting your usual?" I asked and Drew slowly moved a few steps backwards as he was letting someone order. Oliver nodded.

"Alright, don't worry about paying today! I got it!" I didn't have to turn to my coworker, she was already on making his americano as soon as she saw him. He always got the same drink. Even when it was hot.

"You don't have to-"

"I want to!" I said, besides I wasn't really going to buy it, I could use my free drink for him or it's just an espresso shot. So it'll be fine.

"I'll talk to you later Kara, I gotta run, I am picking up my uni id today!" I looked back at Drew kind of surprised. We were never really buddy buddy with each other. Believe me, I'd know. I nodded and smiled at him as I would with any customer and waved.

"Who's that?" I slowly sighed a sigh of relief as he was gone.

"That's Drew, long story short I am keeping my distance from that dude," Oliver nodded slowly.

"Fair enough! Also! I was talking to the owner over the weekend and guess what! We are going to the same school in the fall! I never thought to ask because there were so many different schools but she happen to mention it to me!" I looked at him, my serotonin levels going up. Oliver was so sweet, he was kind and would help anyone with anything. Everyone here at the cafe adored him.

"Oh really? Wait that's so exciting!" kind of. "I have to admit to you then I am a bit of a loner so it's ok."

"What's ok?" you know, if you ditch me.

"I mean, I was the senior prank for the seniors last year, I don't really have a lot of people on my side," I confessed, this is just going to be true whether I like it or not.

"That doesn't matter, I am sure people forgot about it! Besides you can at least have me on your side then!" he just knows exactly what to say. He can be so popular in our school. I already know. He has the looks, the personality. I have to prepare myself to lose this friend. And besides we are barely friends right now, he's a regular at the cafe I work at.

That's about it.
