Chapter 20:

Minotaur

Once Rejected, I'm Now Adored as a Hero

The two minotaurs rushed at the party with their axes raised. Once they were close enough, Calum rolled forward and slashed at one of the minotaurs’ feet.

Erik ran straight at the other minotaur and crossed weapons with it. The minotaur was stronger than him, so it was able to push him back.

Kia joined Calum and sliced the minotaur in various places. It tried to swing at her, but she was too quick for it.

Tilaya stood in the back casting small fireballs aimed at the minotaurs’ heads.

Giving up on Kia, the minotaur swung at Calum. He dodged the first strike but got sent to the ground by the return swing.

He jumped to his feet and charged his opponent with his glowing Faestinger.

The minotaur raised its axe to attack. Calum’s sword met the weapon and sliced cleanly through it. He redirected his attack and sliced off the minotaur’s hand.

It roared in pain and fury. With an outstretched arm, it grabbed Calum and threw him with all its might.

Calum crashed into a tree with a gasp. He struggled to get back up. The minotaur was quickly approaching.

“Calum!” Kia picked up her speed and stopped in front of the minotaur. She stared it down, refusing to let it hurt Calum.

The monster eyed Kia and readied its charge.

Kia waited for it to get close before jumping up and landing on its back, stabbing her daggers into its shoulders.

It roared and violently shook itself, attempting to get her off of its back. It slammed itself into a tree, but Kia held on.

Meanwhile, Erik continued dueling the other minotaur, while Tilaya continued firing her basic spells at it.

Calum winced as he stood up. His muscles ached from the collision, but he had to keep fighting. He grabbed his sword and charged the minotaur that was slamming itself into the tree.

The tree fell over due to the minotaur's power a moment before Calum ran up to the minotaur and cut its legs off in one swing.

Kia pushed off the minotaur and sliced its neck. She turned to Calum. "Thank goodness you're okay. That looked like it hurt."

"It did. But we should save the small talk for when the fight is over–"

A crash interrupted Calum. The other minotaur had fallen to the earth, its hairs scorched. Erik stood on top of it with his greatsword plunged into its chest.

"No foe is strong enough for us now!" Erik laughed.

"It seems they've already taken care of it." He turned back to Kia. "Thanks for distracting the minotaur for me. I would have been in big trouble if you didn't."

"It's nothing. I didn't want you to get hurt is all." She put her daggers on her belt and followed Calum to the others.

A tremor in the ground, accompanied by a loud stomping sound, sent shivers up Calum's spine. He turned toward the sound, fearing that the battle was not over. "Don't tell me that's what I think it is…
