Chapter 23:

The Gifted Hero

Becoming the Principal of Isekai School

It's been three days, but Veronika Ritter still doesn't talk much, even though the staff and teachers have tried to talk to her.

"She's so stubborn, sir." Kyoko did a handstand in the corner of the cell building. "She is still in that position and only moves when carrying out her basic needs. Her patience is on par with a ninja who does surveillance in one place for days."

"Good afternoon, Miss Veronika Ritter." Eiji greeted that woman. "How are you feeling today?"

That warrior was still kneeling in the middle of her cell, closing her eyes and keeping her mouth shut as if Eiji wasn't there.

"Don't you find this odd, sir?" The kunoichi shifted to a standing position. "She's so calm right now, but when she first came here, she was as fierce as a wild beast."

The principal found that woman opened her eyes slightly.

"Maybe because this place is not familiar to her," Eiji responded, taking advantage of this moment when Veronika gave a rare response. "And she still thought that she was in a battle back then. That was her last memory, after all."

But the warrior still didn't respond and instead closed her eyes again. Even so, Eiji did not give up. He had already thought of various other topics that would at least get that warrior to talk.

"Say, Veronika Ritter." Eiji held one of the cell's bars. "Before moving to another world, do you wish someone would train you or at least tell you what to expect?"

Veronika opened her eyes slightly a second time. Eiji immediately knew that he had chosen the right topic. He shouldn't waste this opportunity.

"Or was it all easy for you?" The principal continued. "Because you were gifted by god to be skilled at wielding various weapons?"

Veronika's sharp gaze immediately fixed on the principal. "Easy? You said it was easy?"

Kyoko watched everything unfold without doing anything. But she was prepared to do what was necessary should anything happen.

"Your profile doesn't include your powers." Eiji looked back at Veronika's eyes, even though that warrior's gaze sent chills down his spine. "So, I assume it's not too significant."

And finally, Veronika stood up and walked over to the principal.

"Did you know, when I first came to that world, I had to kill someone just to take away their meager martial ability?" The warrior's lips trembled. "And you take that as a gift? I call it a curse. I don't practice, but kill people, and their fighting ability becomes mine automatically."

"Sorry if I interrupted." Kyoko moved to the side of the principal. "But why are you still doing it? From the way you talk, you sound like you hate it."

"If only it were that easy." Veronika glanced at the kunoichi. "In that world, I heard voices that kept telling me to do that. And they wouldn't stop if I didn't execute their orders… You wouldn't be able to imagine that. I really couldn't stand it. I did become a master of various weapons, but at what cost?"

"Yeah, we couldn't imagine it." Eiji started to get goosebumps. This woman has been through a lot. "And maybe the students here are too. They might get a different gift from God when they come to another world. But there is one important thing you can do for them, and I will never be tired of telling you. You can prepare them to expect the unexpected."

Veronika didn't answer. Her hands gripped the bar tighter.

"And we will help you. You are not alone." Kyoko added. "As Mr. Principal says, we are family."

Still keeping her mouth shut, Veronika took a few steps back, knelt down again, and closed her eyes.

"Damn, she's so hard as a rock." Kyoko sighed.

"It seems I have to take some things from your book." The principal whispered to the kunoichi.

"Huh?" The female ninja raised an eyebrow, but a second later, she understood. "Aah."

"Even if you don't want to teach here, this school will still run, Miss Ritter." Eiji put his hands into his pockets and looked at the warrior with a colder gaze. "If you destroy this place and kill us, I'm sure they will rebuild it. All your efforts to stop this will be futile. You should understand how difficult it is to go against God's orders. The proof is that you repeatedly submit to them."

Yes, by killing them.

This time the warrior's eyes opened wider.

"People will still be sent to those worlds and probably have a fate as bad as yours, or maybe even more." Eiji's tone rose a bit.

Eiji put the key to the cell door, and Kyoko didn't try to stop him, while Veronika got up again from the floor.

"Please get out of this cell and fight the gods to stop all this." The principal opened the door wide. "If you don't like it."

Veronika Gulped. "I didn't say I would do that…."

"But there is another small thing you can do for the sake of those would-be isekai protagonists!" The principal's voice grew louder. He will not give up on getting this woman. "And I'm not going to say that again! You already know that!"

Eiji's breath ragged a little. He didn't expect to be this emotional when trying to recruit Veronika.

The principal knew he might never understand how the warrior felt, but he was sure she was the right person for this.

"I don't know if I can do it." Veronika clenched her fists. Her eyes began to be filled with tears. "I don't feel like I can be a good teacher. All I did in that world was fight and kill."

"I'm basically the same as you, only fighting and killing in my previous life, then flirting with men a lot. The only one who has really been a teacher is Anneth." Kyoko chuckled. "Even our principal was summoned here before being able to teach in his original world. Trust me, the others are no better than you at teaching."

"So, Veronika Ritter." Eiji entered the cell and held out his hand. "Are you ready to be a part of us?"

"Vero…" The warrior whispered while looking down.

"Sorry?" Eiji asked.

"Just call me Vero."
