Chapter 9:

Imprisoned In This Corrupted World

Ashes of War

"We're all imprisoned in this corrupted world, aren't we?"

A zippo started to light up the room. Takahiro faced to a man, with a big scar just above his right eye.

'Gina said it was small, is he really Gina's brother?'

"Well well, Mr. Oikawa, what a pleasure."

Takahiro felt they weren't alone in that room. There were eyes, carefully watching all over him.

"How do you know me?" It was hard to talk for Takahiro, his words were incomprehensible and his voice was tired.

"Oh believe me you've forgotten more people than you thought. The people, you shouldn't have forgotten. The people, that much more important than me." answered Scarface, and got closer to Takahiro's face again.

"Just tell me, Mr. Oikawa. Does my voice mean nothing to you?"

Takahiro realised his voice is really familiar. But he never saw his face before. It was just as almost Gina's description, there's no doubt he was her younger brother. Takahiro took his shot.

"Oh I know you, Taki. You are not alone in this game." as he spoke, Scarface started to laugh.

"Wow, Takahiro I really am impressed. Even though you never asked my name before, you said it. Right now, as if it's a usual thing." His voice became more and more quitely.

"But you still don't have any clue, do YOU?" He punched Takahiro's face, just above the cheekbone. Takahiro felt like his soul was about to leave his body, it wasn't a punch that a civilian could do. Whoever he is, he was very experienced in the battlefield.

"So, where is my sister?" asked Scarface. "I know she's the one who told you my name, otherwise you couldn't know it. And we were told, that there was a man and woman inside the sawmill. Where's she?"

Takahiro relaxed a bit. They didn't find her... but her wounds wasn't looking good enough and she was unconscious last time he saw her. Takahiro hoped for the best for her.

"She's dead."

"Where's her body?"

"How could I know you stu-"

Takahiro took another punch, before he could finish his sentence.

"You're still the same man, Takahiro. You're acting dumb, you believe that you can make fools of us. The world is changing, you're not the number one soldier of the army at that young age, not anymore."

Takahiro coughed. Whoever he was, he knew him very well. Scarface was an unknown enemy to Takahiro, but it wasn't same for him.

"I won't blame you, Takahiro. Because I was as dumb as you before. I believed in you and followed you everywhere. And look at how I ended up." Scarface started laughing.

"No matter who you really are, Taki. You won't get away from it that easily."

"Get away from WHAT? When we're done here there'll be only chaos all around the world. You lost, Takahiro. But don't worry, I won't kill you yet. I want you to watch this corrupted world shatter next to you. Your life will be nothing but the price of thousands of souls you left behind on those battlefields. Not only your enemies but your friends!"

Takahiro started to understand. There wasn't much people who knows him that well. Scarface was younger than him, but still he was as strong as Takahiro.

'How could I be that blind, answer was right front of me. There was only one person who never showed his face in the squad. Last joined member...'

"Uchida. You're Uchida Taki, the lastest member and communication expert of my squad."

It became silent for the moment, but then Scarface started laughing very loud.

"Bingoo~"

Takahiro didn't know what to feel in that moment. It seemed like Taki acted like he was dead and somehow tricked his sister. In fact, Gina never knew what her brother really was. Takahiro wasn't sure if Taki had always been like this or just after his last mission.

"Why?" asked Takahiro, with a bit of anger in him.

"Oh you ask me why? Let me tell you. Because this world doesn't deserve a peace. God created human and it just brought chaos with it. Humans ruined everything, not only the world but other lifes, just like my life! And I was thinking about this whole time, why is the lifes we're living is so unfair. They're precious, unique, but cruel and unfair at the same time. Was all of that just a game for the God?"

Taki raisied his voice step by step, through the whole conversation.

"It should BE a game for the GOD! And if it's just a game, why couldn't we play with them as well?" said Taki and dragged his pistol, then shot the man in the head next to him.

"SO IT IS! Every life, including mine, is a toy for the God. Only difference is, I decided to play with them too. I couldn't leave the whole fun only to God, how could I?" He laughed so hard, others in the room joined him laughing.

"You do understand me, don't you, Takahiro? You don't believe in God as well, and you are as sinful as me."

Takahiro took a deep breath, he was still shocked.

"I never saw myself as a hero or something, I know how cruel this world can be. But you're wrong, Taki, lifes we're living is not a toy, none of them are. I don't believe in God but it doesn't make any life any worthless than mine, or yours, or someone else's."

Scarface smiled.

"No matter how different we are, we are the same, Takahiro. Your view on life doesn't change anything. There are no devils and angels. There are only humans, way worse than both of them."

As Taki finished his speech, he turned around and when he was about to leave that room, he stopped.

"Don't worry, Takahiro. I'll find out where Gina is. She will be watching this world shatter with you. Start interrogating him." As he left the room, other guys started moving towards Takahiro.

"We're all imprisoned, huh..."
