Chapter 11:

The Origin of The Kingdom of Resilia

Legacy of Resilia; Book 1: The Arrival

In a time long ago, when humans were still living in small huts, humans were struggling for survival. Food was hard to procure and mankind’s numbers would dwindle more, without a way of protecting themselves from the the senus.

The senus are vicious beasts that would eat and destroy without reason. They may look like the animals that we are familair with, but mixed together to create nature’s abominations.
No one knows why they exist, or how they came to be. Theories surrounding their existence have not gone past simple speculation.
As far as we’re aware, they’ve been roaming the lands since time immemorial.

In a moment of desperation, humans banded together to create a place where they could be safe. A place that would still allow them to prosper and fight back.
It allowed them to survive a bit longer, but food only became more scarce without the means to easily obtain it.

The situation seemed dire and humans would’ve gone extinct, were it not for their meeting with the Bestia.

The Bestia were an ancient and intelligent race, who flew down to help us from the skylands of Elysia. A place of luster, greenery and plentiful bounties. A true paradise.
They were considered folklore. People of myth. Yet here they were in all their glory.

Their leader Solaria was the first to start interaction between the two parties. She wished for the prosperity of both races. Praying that if we all came together that it would end the torment of the senus.
This… didn’t work out as intended.

They were shunned. Completely cast out from the humans.
Perhaps it was anger of them leaving mankind behind for so long. Maybe a dispute in ideals and philosophies. Or could it have been distrust based on their looks?
The Bestia acted like humans. They walked like humans. Talking like them. Ate like them. Yet, their outward appearance was anything but.
They were more beast-like in appearance, with big ears and tails to accentuate. Some humans thought that the Bestia were senus as well.

But just like how there was one building a bridge on the side of the Bestia, there was also one ready to build one on the side of the humans. A man named William. The one who brought humanity together in the first place.
Although often seen as a coward by his peers, he was also seen as a strong and kind soul, who would always lend a helping hand to others. Solaria not exempted.
And once that bridge was build, it was not long until the rest started to follow.

The cooperation between races and the exchange of knowledge and strength, allowed man to drive back the senus for the first time. What first seemed like an impossible feat was now made possible. Allowing man to expand it’s reach beyond the small village. Which started with a simple shed.
The Bestia were knowledgeable in a lot of fields, so they’d write many tomes containing everything they knew. Even teaching us humans about some of it, including how to read and write ourselves. But there was simply too much to learn. So many details that none of us could comprehend even now. So they’d store all of those tomes in a single place. That simple shed would become a place to preserve all of it. A place that they’d call Resilia.

Cooperation grew more as time went on and eventually gave birth to the first child between Man and the Bestia. The human man, William, and the leader of the Bestia, Solaria, fell in love and shortly after, had their first child. But this child was different from the others. It had clear human features from the face, to the body and limbs. However, she inherited Solaria’s tail.

It was a joyous occassion, celebrated by both parties as they could now see a future for the coexistence of Man and Bestia with the birth of Luna, the first ever bestiana.

From there, both humans and Bestia declared their leaders to be William and Solaria as the two who truly brought together the two races. And it was decided on the spot that the leadership role would continue to fall in the hands of their family. Their tail a symbol of the family that started it all.

Following the deaths of William and Solaria, Resilia grew beyond the preservatory of knowledge, as it was seen as before, and became the foundation and central pillar for everything to come, becoming The Kingdom of Resilia. Where once stood a simple stone shed, later became the capital for the bestiana, humans and the last of the Bestia.
To forever remember both William, Solaria and their deeds, their child Luna, and then leader of the populace, would name the capital and knowledge preservatories after them.

The capital would come to be known as William’s Rest. Named after her father who started the foundation of everything.
The preservatories would be renamed as the Solarian Academies. Named after her mother who always preached about the importance of information, knowledge and passing it on.

‘And that’s how our kingdom came to be.’ Julian finished. ‘Any more questions?’
‘Wuh, wha, wait. What… huh.’ I tried to think of the right words, but my brain felt fried after the amount of information I just received.

‘This information is something that every Solarian Academy in Resilia has, but it’s far from everything. At the current moment there are still hundreds of documents and tomes that are still not understood. Some of which are here in this building.’
‘THERE IS MORE.’ I shouted in disbelief. I like history, but information overload not so much. There is so much to chew on here, that I felt overwhelmed.
‘Hahaha. Calm down there young man. Wait here, I’ll get something that might help.’

Julian walked away and came back with two scrolls in hand, which looked kinda like paper.

‘These are a couple drawings depicting that period in time. They were made back then and would then be perfectly redrawn to protect them from the passage of time. That includes all the written material. All to make sure the information would be retained. Here let me show you.’

The first picture I saw was that of a senus. Just like Julian described, it looked like an abomination. Or rather, it’d be more accurate to say that it didn’t look natural to me. A beast that had characteristics from multiple animals crammed into it.
A beast with the body of a horse. It’s hind legs were that of a horse as well, but it’s front legs were that of an eagle. A long and scaly tail of a scorpion and the head of a lion.

‘This is just one type of senus.’ Julian started. ‘Because they are combinations of all sorts of animal characteristics, it’s nearly impossible to name them all. That’s why they received the name senus. It’s to classify them under a single name and from there, are all sorts of groups they belong in based on their body type. Like the winged senus, or the amphibic senus. With groups sometimes intersecting with one another. Actually, I believe that the Bestia were the first to coin the name. Or at least, that’s what I remember from my time in the academy of William’s Rest.’

That’s not that different from how we classify animals in my world. Reptiles, birds, bugs, amphibians and so many more.

‘Funnily enough.’ Julian continued. ‘Bestiana are classified in a similair manner. For example, you are living with Richard right? His daughter Maya actually belongs to the felia. A type of bestiana known for their pointy ears. While I am known as a cornia, with these horns of mine.’ Julian pointed at his horns while saying that.

I hadn’t given the bestiana that much thought until now. Since I am technically living with one, it quickly became something natural. Something I became used to.
Even when I saw other bestiana in the village, I didn’t think much of it, but to think that there are ways to even classify them.
I realized that there was still so much I didn’t know about this world.

The second picture I saw was that of Solaria, which caught me completely off guard. Just like Julian said, the Bestia look beast-like and Solaria was no exception. A mostly human body with a giant tail of feathers. She looked human in the sense that she stood on two legs, her hands looked human and that she had a mostly human-looking face.
But with everything else, she looked more like a human peacock to me. Just no beak and mostly fuzzy looking skin.

It’s not Solaria’s looks that caught me by surprise however. It was particularly the background. A giant sun with three holes.
Just like the one that was on the mirror that brought me into this world.
