Chapter 24:

The Rescue

Two Moments of Life

"First, we have to find out where she is being held."

"You make it sound so simple. We only have three days. How are we supposed to find her in this city that easily." Jiro was obviously confused after hearing me say this.

"We will use call tracking."

"Huh? You know how to do that?" This time Yoko showed her surprise.

"No, I don't."

"Then how?"

"Things are relatively simple to do nowadays. We can really just search on the internet and some way will come up. I think we should be able to easily do this if they haven't done any specific cover-ups which most of the kidnappers usually don't do."

"What if they are some professional team of kidnappers?"

"They probably aren't."

"How can you be so sure of that?"

"If they really were such big kidnappers, what are they doing in this city? And they wouldn't just ask for only 1 million if they really were that large-scale kidnappers. The amount would have been much bigger."

"That... does make sense."

"But what are we going to do after that?"

"That we will plan after we scout the place with these," I said picking up some binoculars present in one of the drawers.

"You had these?"

"Yeah, got them on my birthday three years ago. Never thought I would use them like this. But, are you guys sure about this?"

"About what?"

"I mean... this is really dangerous."

"What are you talking about? Kayo is our friend too, right?" Yoko said glancing toward Jiro.

"Yeah, we ain't letting you do this alone. We are in it together."

"I see, Thanks!" I have got some nice friends.

After that, both of them went home because it was getting late and I started trying to locate them. I used VPN too for well umm... security purposes, I guess. I definitely don't want some organization to think I am doing something illegal. I don't even know if this will be illegal or not. Anyway, after some time I found them. From where they called, the closest place where they could have held Kayo was an abandoned neighborhood about 30 minutes of running of from my house... probably.

Next day, I went there alone in the morning when Jiro and Kayo were in school. I didn't want to put them in more unnecessary danger. As I was exploring the place, I saw someone in front of a house. I quietly went into a house in some distance. I went to the second floor and used my binoculars to examine the house from the window. I was kind of grateful that they decided to choose an abandoned neighborhood for this. If this had been an abandoned warehouse on a barren land doing this would have proved very difficult.... no, impossible.

I examined the house from three sides by going to different houses around it. From what I observed, there are four people in the house. Since it is just morning, there is a very low chance that someone is out. Two people were standing in front of the room Kayo was in. She was clearly visible through the window. She was in a room on the ground floor. The second floor was damaged to the point that it was unusable. This also worked in my favor. I wanted to smack these scum in the head but I cannot do rash things. One of them was going in and out of the room at regular intervals, probably checking.

One was standing watch outside. That is why I couldn't examine the house from the front. There was a high risk that I would get caught. The fourth one was sitting in front of the entrance on a chair. He looked like he was the leader or whatever. This was enough for today. With a bitter feeling of leaving her alone in my heart, I walked back home.

"Alright, time to do it."

"Yeah!" Both of them replied at the same time.

It is the third day since Kayo has been kidnapped. We decided we would do this in the afternoon because the police would likely respond faster at this time. In general terms, our plan was to call the police here but before the police arrives, I will ensure that Kayo cannot be taken hostage by the kidnappers which is the difficult part.

Yoko was standing at the start of the abandoned area. She would call me to tell me that the police has entered the area. I would then tell Jiro to throw a brick near the house from where he is not visible and run away. This will help distract the guys in front of the house. Meanwhile, I will deal with the guy who will be inside the room.

I used a voice changer to call the police because they are most definitely not going to believe a kidnapping report by some kid. I called them from the abandoned area so that even if they track the call they will get the proof that I am actually in the abandoned area, giving more credibility to the report. I hope they won't do that because it will take time and it is really cold out here.

After some time my phone rang. The call was by Yoko informing us about the arrival of the police. I told Jiro about it with a call and he did his job. He threw the brick and ran away. The kidnappers got alerted and started searching near the front. I sneaked to the side near the window of the room in which Kayo was restrained. The kidnapper was luckily in the room. I took out the wet cloth from my pocket and with a deep breath, knowing that this was the most crucial and dangerous thing, I knocked on the window.

The kidnapper came near it and opened the window. Just when he looked outside I used the cloth with concentrated chloroform, which I made at home using some chemicals I bought online, to cover his mouth with it and put him to sleep in a matter of seconds. Making this chloroform was the reason that we had to wait a whole day before executing this plan. I also forced his neck to hit slightly on the lower side of the window so that he could not shout. It was successful. I went inside and locked the room from the inside.

The police sirens started to get clearly audible. The person outside tried to open the door but I had locked it. Just in case, I moved the chair that Kayo was tied to in the corner of the room because he might start shooting through the door. I untied her. She was unconscious. It was a weird time for this, but this incident made all the feelings inside me crystal clear to me. I realized just how important Kayo was to me.

Just as I was about to leave, the single hole in my plan proved to be fatal to our rescue. A bulky guy suddenly burst through the gate.

"Looks like we have some rats to exterminate here!"

I didn't see him when I was observing the house. Yes, there was supposedly another person with them. This was a problem. He instructed the other guy to go outside and help delay the police until he takes us hostage. Faced with this problem, the only thing I could do now was to stall for time.
