Chapter 4:
The Star in the Night Sky
It's been about a week since my excursion with Seira, I've had nothing to complain about. This past week has been relatively enjoyable, or so I thought... I could hear Eika downstairs calling for me. Whenever she was involved in anything, it never ended well for me. After a period of time, I sighed and finally went downstairs to see what was going on. Walking downstairs, I had a bad feeling as the atmosphere seemed to get very tense as I walked into the living room.
"Why didn't you come downstairs when i first called you Shiro?"
Eika said with an attitude.
"I was putting on clothes"
She looked at as if she was looking down on me, it was a stare I was used to at this point. She never looked at me in an approving manner, as if I was forever a disappointment in her eyes.
"Next time be faster when I call for you Shiro."
"Yes ma'am"
I despised her for making my life a living hell, but there was nothing I could do to change it. For as long as I remember, since she came here, she never liked me. It was like an instant hate for my existence, and I never knew why.
"I need you to move out your things from the closet so we can start putting the baby's in there."
My eyes widened as she said this, before I could say anything else, she interrupted me:
"Yes I know the baby isn't due for another 5 and half months. But I don't care, I need the room to be ready for when they're born."
Her logic made no sense to me... but I couldn't disobey her or else my life would get considerably worse. The only thing I could do is simply agree with what she was saying to me. I stood up and nodded before walking back upstairs to my room. I looked back towards Eika, who was simply grinning as she probably also knew making do this really had no purpose but to torment me more. Around a couple hours later, I hear a knock on my door. I open it expecting to see Eika, but was surprised as I found my father standing there.
"Hey Champ..."
As he said this, rage filled me as I couldn't believe the nerve he had to greet me in this manner.
"What do you want?"
I said in a firm voice, wanting him to leave me alone. Although I still loved my father, I hated seeing his face. He doesn't torment like Eika does, but he's the man responsible for bringing that witch into my life.
"I just wanted to let you know that I talked to your mother, you don't have to clean your closet for anything."
I glared at him as he was talking to me.
"Let me make one thing clear, that woman is not my mother and is that all you came to my room for? If so then you can go away now."
His face looked a but hurt from my words, but I really didn't care. The rest of the day after that incident went by like usual with no other things happening. In the morning, everyone quietly ate breakfast an tension was abnormally high. After eating, I got up and put my dishes in the sink and started getting ready for school. As I walk towards the door, the words I hear next bring me to a stop as they surprised me more than anything. I hear Eika say in a soft tone:
"Have... a nice day at school Shiro."
This is the first time in my life that I've heard anything remotely like coming from Eika. I simply nodded and walked out the house. Although these words were kind, they are no where near whats needed for me to accept her or even consider forgiving her for the pain she caused. Although it did make me slightly happy when she wished me a good day, part of me thought she only did it to save face in some way. With that, I left so I could catch the train on time for school. On my way to school, I run into Seira, so I call out to her.
"Oh good morning Shiro."
"Good morning Seira"
After greeting her, we walk to school together. Along the way, we talk about favorite foods and some hobbies that we have. Walking to school with her was very enjoyable and a nice change of pace for me. The more I talked to Seira, the more I realized how great of a person she was. Seira always paid attention to the small details in the environment, always offering help to those around her no matter who they were. But I also noticed the darkness that she kept suppressed within her. Arriving to school, the halls were scattered with posters for class reps. As Seira and I walk into class and take our seats, the teacher makes the annoucement:
"Class we'll be voting for our class reps soon please start your voting as soon as possible!"
Instantly the classroom filled with chatter. Excited students were hyped as this was one of the favorite times of the year for most.
"Omg! I hope Seira wins the girls rep!"
"Yes!"
"I want Takada to win for the boys!"
Takada was one of the most popular kids in the school as he was also captain of the cool basketball team. I've known him since we were kids, although he's a nice guy we don't talk at all really. Despite that, I did hope he would win as he's good person and I think he'd do great as a class rep.
"After class is over, please write the name of the student you vote for and place them in the bucket by the door."
The class went by with the constant noise of pencils and pens fiercely writing on paper as students got excited to vote for class reps. As class ended and students rushed to the bucket to place their votes, I sat back in my seat as I watched everyone.
"You aren't going to vote Shiro?"
Asked Seira who was sitting next to me.
"I will... I'm just waiting for the crowd to die down a bit. Too many people are bunched up and I don't really want to be around them."
"Fair Enough."
The teacher then instructed everyone to be seated for a quick announcement before dismissal.
"Okay class, so let me explain how voting and results will work. So after the other classes turn in their buckets, all the teachers will count the votes for all the students and class reps will be announced at the end of the week. Class reps will be tasked with doing various things for their classes. Ranging from planning events with other classes, or simply doing more things around the classroom. Reps will be responsible for informing the class on upcoming dates and events."
Students nodded quickly as everyone couldn't wait for the results to be released. With that, class was dismissed as students funneled into the hallways as everyone went to their cliques to discussed the voting among other things. As Seira and I were leaving the classroom, a few students approach us:
"Hey Seira, a few of us are going to go to karaoke with Takada, wanna come with us?"
Seira looks at them for a second before asking:
"Are you just asking me or can Shiro come aswell?"
"Well... we typically would never invite him anywhere but if that what it will take for you to come along, fine."
With that, Seira and I were invited to go to karaoke with the popular kids. As I let the thought sit in of going with them to karaoke, I thought to myself:
"What could possibly go wrong?"
