Chapter 1:

Unlikely Encounters - Whispers of Serendipity

Whispers of Serendipity

It was yet another day. Nothing really special is going to happen. It's been 2 weeks since I've been in this school and I haven't been able to make any proper friends. Though I sort of talk to this one dude named Liam. I feel like I can actually make friends with him. Here's a little about me. I have a simple quiff hairstyle, generic black eyes and I'm built slightly skinny but not too skinny. My dad died when I was 3 and my mother is the only person I have left. I've been severely bullied and cheated in the past by people whom I trusted, this  in-turn made me the quiet kid in school. I could never tell my mum about this though. I love her deeply and don't want her to worry about me. Even though the opposite is true, she believed that my school life had been enjoyable. It's 6 in the morning and I have to prepare for school. I hope I can befriend Liam; he appears to be a nice guy. However, I'll be cautious, given my past traumas, and not trust him too quickly.

"Seyn! Come downstairs and have your breakfast!" My mom's voice echoed from the lower floor, where she was busy packing my lunch for school. We weren't exactly rich, but we weren't poor either. I quickly brushed my teeth and donned my school uniform, ready to head off to school. I went downstairs and my mom kept the breakfast on the table. She made eggs and bacon. One of my favorites. "Thanks for the food ma.". "I hope you're prepared for another exciting day at school! All your new friends must be eagerly waiting for you!" My mom exclaimed with a cheerful smile. Seeing her happy makes me happy. "Mhm" I said in a soft tone knowing that no one is waiting for me.

I started walking to school and observed my surroundings as usual. "Wow, it seems like Ms. Mary is having quite the busy day", I said to myself as there were plenty customers than usual for her today. Ms. Mary is an old woman who sells her vegetables for a living. She works really hard. After 10 minutes of walking I got to the school gates. I let out a deep sigh as usual before entering since school always exhausts me. As I walk through the hallways I see all the couples walking together and having fun with each other. At times, I find myself wishing I could experience what they have, but I quickly dismiss the thought. It's whatever, really. Don't think love is meant for a loser like me. RING RING RING. The bell rings as I enter my classroom. I make my way to my assigned seat and sit down. I wanted the left corner seat close to the window but seems like the teacher had different ideas and kept me in the second row towards the left. At least it is a window seat so I'll take it. The classroom had 24 seats in total. 4 rows and 6 columns. There are a bunch of these motivational posters behind the class.

The class was really noisy. Everyone was playing and talking around while I just sat with my head down. The class leader then asks at everyone to go take their seats since the teacher was arriving soon. Once everyone had settled, the teacher walked in with another unknown face. "Good morning class! She is a new student that will be joining us from here on. She transferred here a bit later than others but do make sure to be kind and treat her well." The whole class glanced at her as the teacher asked her to introduce herself. "Hey guys! My name is Alexia, Alexia Simon. I hope to make friends with all of you!", she announced followed by a bright smile. She seemed really cheerful. She had brown long hair that was slightly curly followed by her hazel eyes that shined bright because of the sunlight. She was slightly freckled in the face. Her charisma flowed through the whole class and had everyone staring. I was just wondering why someone would come to school this late. It had been 2 weeks already. Though I'd admit, she was gorgeous. I can see many guys possibly going for her in the future.

She looked around and noticed the seat next to me was empty. She walked towards me with a smile and took her seat next to mine. Avery, a short and plump girl with short hair, the girl behind her seat tried warning her saying "He's a loser, don't sit next to him. There's a free spot behind my seat you can sit there." I expected her to just leave and go sit there so I didn't really bother. "I'll pass. I'll just sit here. And don't call him a loser". That sort of took me by a surprise because no one has stood up for me before. But I'm quite positive she'll probably leave too once she finds out how I am. She tapped on my shoulder and proceeded to ask me my name. "Seyn Williams", I responded. "That's a really unique name, Seyn!". I responded with a subtle thank you. "Ya know, you really shouldn't be letting others throw your name in the dirt like that. Learn to stand up for yourself". "I try. But I just get made fun of". "Well don't listen to what the others say. Just stop caring and love yourself. That's enough". The thought of me loving myself came to me as a joke because I know that I can't do that. But to reassure her I responded saying I'd try. She gave me a big smile followed by a good luck. Her eyes sparked. Usually I'd fake it but, it felt real this moment. She got me to smile.
