Chapter 12:

At the guildmaster's office

The Isekai Lie

-"Well! All guilds are connected and have an identical leveling system. These are raised by the amount of missions one partakes in. After completing enough of those, we will update your status.

Now, there are certainly quests that are more difficult than others, but those will give a higher reward, and will generally progress you quicker towards leveling up within the guild system. As you do, you will be able to get benefits, like help with purchasing a house, get recommendations for any other occupations you might decide on".

"Other occupations? Do guild members have multiple jobs?" I ask.

-"Abolutely, or at least, it's very common. The strongest, however, tend to not have any time for other jobs since they would put that time to adventuring further".

"Wow. That is interesting. And what does it mean to have 'help with purchasing a house'?"

-"A business man, I see? It is as you suspect, a massive discount for guild members of a certain level. Do note, that some basic options unlock at certain levels as well. To make a party, one has to be at least level 2. That rule was created to ensure there is at least one experienced person in any team. At level 1 you will only be able to do some specific no-team-required easier quests.

Although you could join a party made by someone else.

There is no problem in taking lone quests with a party, but the opposite is only allowed from level 5. On that level, you will be considered experienced enough to embark on any mission alone, even the difficult ones that usually require a party. It is the final guild level".

"I see. So that means... At the begining, we might have to join someone else's party? That might be a little... troublesome..." I realize.

-"Whatever do you mean? Luna here is already level 2 and can create a party." The guild master says as he rests his hand on her shoulder in validation.

She nods her head in pride.

"OH! Luna! Nice!" I say, impressed.

-"Just out of curiosity..." the guild master prepares to ask, "Why is it so problematic to join another party? If they mistreat you two, I'm sure you can handle youselves fine, not to mention, I will give them a piece of my mind too! Unless you planned on going to missions just the two of you, seeing the world like a never ending date... I'll have you remember quests can be dangerous you love birds! So stay sharp out there as you..."

-"Master what are you saying??!!" Luna interrupts him, I've never seen her so red before.

-"Rune, I think we should ask him..." she tells me, noding with her head a bit, reaffirming she believes it's the right thing to do". She is still a bit red from feeling embarrassed.

"Master, the thing is... I messed up my build, but in a none conventional way... I encountered something that is called a "world quest". As I was required to defeat a boss, it completely..."

-"Locked your skills and created a new skill tree for you..." He completes my sentence, surprised a bit, but all too-well informed.

-"Rune!" Luna yells towards me.

"Master, you know about the world quest?" I ask.

I'm completely shocked. The library had nothing about it for crying out loud. Which I also did to be fair. Cry out loud that is.

-"You too huh?" he mumbles.

"You know someone else who has already experienced that?" I ask, full of hope, this is the closest I've ever been.

-"Yes. A long time ago, a very long time ago. Around 30 years ago, someone from this very guild came to me for advice about the exact same matter. You may have heard their name, even. After everything that had happened to him, some thought he disappeared completely. They renamed the forest in his memory..."

No.

Way.

-"His name is treeza. And he is a good friend of mine. AND IS VERY MUCH ALIVE as far as I know. We weren't in touch for quite a while though, so I'm not too sure where to find him. I can only promise you one thing... He'll be with his woman, hahahaha", he is laughing in confidence.

"Do you have any tips about him? Anything I can use for my situation?" I ask, desperately.

"Well, I don't know all the details but... His wife shared her power with him and it seemed to have solved his problems. You will have to ask him. If you want to try and find him... Well... I have nothing. But, every year some of us meet at the grave of an old friend. Those who can come will definetly come on that day. The first day of the year. Not all of us can always make it, but there's a chance at least".

"Hmm. Since the year recently started... That is almost a whole year from now. I see... We will have to try our best to get by before we meet with him".

-"Very well, I wish you good luck! You can embark on your quest, as guests of the guild can also take quests. I will personally register you as you return, Rune", the guildmaster reassures me. "-I sure didn't see them for a good while... They probably don't even know I became a guildmaster! Hahahaha, I only recently transfered to quadmountia guild in order to fill in the late master's shoes. They might live in this city and I wouldn't even know, haha".

-"Wait, so both of us are relatively new here, master?" Luna asks.

-"Yes! And I won't let those punks mistreat you, you hear me?"

-"Master, just in case, can you tell us the name of his wife?" Luna asks.

Oh, I didn't think of that!

"Good thinking Luna!" I make sure to let her know.

-"It's a common name so looking for her by it will be really difficult", he replies

-"Please master, just in case", she insists.

-"It's Nana. But every woman our age is named Nana hahahaha, you will get nowhere chasing that name".

It's true. It is a very common name here. "Luna" and "Rune" are not too rare either. "Treeza", however, is hard to miss, if I'll ever hear somebody being called that, I mean.

My own mother is also named "Nana". If only all "Nana"s knew each other, maybe I could've at least asked her.

Well. We are closer now. This is not a whole lot of information, but it is a whole lot more than I had before.

"Luna, do you want to..."

-"YES!" she cuts my sentence, knowing it's time to go.
