Chapter 17:

Grandma, queen of business

The Isekai Lie

We go back to the town, and look for the person who made the request.

-"It says the request was made by "Craftsies Potion Store", Luna says as she reads from the quest paper, -"it's right over there", she points at a nearby store.

We enter the store. I'm stunned. The store seemed to be on the smaller side, from the outside that is. From the inside, there is such a variety of what to look at, where to look at.

In the entrance there are shelves holding potions, mostly stocks of HP and MP potions. The price adjusts to the strength of the potion but are purchasable only as a huge stock. Further into the store, there is what looks like a living room with a bunch of mechanical instruments.

Plenty of clocks of different shapes are attached to the walls. On the table there's a cog complex making certain fluids switch from one flask to another, leading to a test tube. Further in there are shelves with books, smaller clocks, devices, and toys that operate mechanically.

"Luna, this place is amazing".

-"I know!" Luna replies. -"Hello? Anybody here?" she asks, yelling even further into the room.

We see an old woman coming downstairs towards us. She steps slowly on the wooden spiral stairs in the middle of the living room, near the wall. With each step the stairs make a squeaky sound.

-"Hello young ones. What brings you to my shop? Aren't you too young to be going out, requiring potions?" She asks.

-"I don't think so", Luna answers. -"Here are the items you ordered, ma'am! We are with the guild in Quadmountia".

-"Ho! That is great news. Here. You can put down the items. Now let me sign your paper", she says as Luna puts the items down and gives her the quest's paper from the guild.

"Is it possible to purchase some potions for individuals?" I ask.

-"Our entire town has agreements with major businesses in the cities, and so it's not profitable to be selling per individuals", the old woman explains.

"Oh, I see".

-"That's why these are on the house", she says as she hands me some HP and MP potions, -"for your trouble".

-"Thank you so much!" Luna says. "I told you, Rune, everyone here is so nice!"

"Thank you ma'am, we appreciate it".

Me and Luna smile to each other. We are prepared to get going and I ask Luna: "When will the shuttle come back?"

-"It will arrive tomorrow at the same time we arrived today, so 16:30".

-"Do you have a place to sleep in?" The old woman asks. -"You can sleep in my attic for the night if you want. Dinner is in an hour! And the showers are upstairs, before the attic".

The incredibly nice grandma has decided for us.

-"Let's take her up on her offer, Rune". Luna says.

"Sure, that is so nice of her. And this place is so… Beautiful. Do you wanna shower first?"

-"Yep! I'll make it quick. You make it quick too so we can talk for a while. Still got some time before dinner", she says. I nod in agreement.

We go upstairs, making some squeaky wooden-stairs-sounds. Luna enters the shower and I go further upstairs to the attic, putting our stuff there. I see two beds. I look for new bedsheets and covers in the closet and I prepare the beds.

Luna returns quickly enough, and so we high five, and I go down the stairs to enter the shower.

I feel like I'm hypnotized, standing in the shower, as the powerful flow of water hits my head and back. After a few minutes I hear a knock, -"Rune, is everything okay?"

"Oh, yea! I'm good, I basically fell asleep standing, haha".

Better finish quickly.

I wrap the towel around myself. I go to our room in the attic and I can see Luna is still in her towel. -"Your hair is all wet" she says.

She takes an extra towel and makes sure my hair is dry, wiping my head all over.

-"Turn around, I'll put some cloths on", she says.

I turn around. -"You can put on your cloths too, I'm not looking", she quickly adds.

We finish, and she invites me to sit on her bed.

-"Okay. Tomorrow let's head to the guild to bring in the quest and receive the payment, and then head straight to the weapon shop to hand over the private request as well", Luna says.

"Sounds good. We can ask him, like you said, whether he can upgrade my weapon's durability or not", I reply.

-"Yep! But that also gives us free time until 16:30. What do you want to do until our wagon comes?" She asks.

"I want to see if they have anything for mages in this town. For you. And I also wanted to check their library, maybe I'll find something about the world quest".

-"Oh yea! Let's do that".

"I wanted to check their library for a while since I got a tip about it from the librarian in Quadmountia. In a book there, I found out about Treeza, and the common legend of his disappearance. I bet you already knew that one".

-"Yes, but I had no idea that he was alive, and REAL. I'm glad we asked the guildmaster. So now we can finally check it out. By the way, if we notice we have some extra time tomorrow – we can check out the guild stand in this town. Every city has a guild but small towns tend to have a stand representing the closest city's guild. We might even be able to turn in the nice old lady's quest there and get some cash to spend, or even find some quests before they are delivered to the main city".

"Solid plan!" I concur.

-"Hey! Younglings! Food is ready!!!" The grandma yells from the kitchen, near the living room – two floors downstairs.

We go down the stairs, prepare to sit, and see a buffet of home cooking presented to us.

-"Eat as much as you want. Also, I have a proposition for you if you are willing to hear it after dinner".
