Chapter 35

The Adventure begins

Even after trying mana control for an hour, I was only able to move my mana from my navel to my chest.

As expected of the ancient technique.

Also I still don't know about what attribute I have.

Zephy san told me that she would take me to a place to determine that after she comes back from her trip.

She told me to keep practicing my manipulation skill till then.

Speaking of attributes, since Philia san and sherry san could do telepathy magic without wand so easily, so does that mean they have mind wave related attribute.

I had asked about that too and apparently telepathy magic is considered a very basic level spell and it can be done even if you don't have its attribute using ancient magic technique.

But it still requires a lot of practice in magic manipulation, which shows just how talented those girls are.

Apparently, not all ether inside our body has attribute.

There is some pure attribute less ether inside our body too and that is enough to perform very low level basic spell of other attributes.

Therefore, any magician who has mastered ether manipulation and mana manipulation can do basic spells like search, telepathy, ignite, etc.

After practice was over, I decided to take a walk around orphanage to see what was the neighborhood was like.

The kids were all taking afternoon nap, so I was alone.

This orphanage was at the outer corner of residential district.

This city has 6 districts the adventurers district, shopping district, residential district, nobles district, administrative district and entertainment district which is also called slums.

I have only visited adventurers, shopping and administrative district and residential district.

The nobles district is a walled district within this city and requires permission or a special identity card to enter.

The entertainment district or the slums is on located on the outer side of the main wall of the city and does not have good law and order.

As the name suggest there may be brothels and bars located in there but since its dangerous for a newcomer like me so I will not go there.

Since the orphanage is at the edge of the residential district near the outer wall, the neighborhood is quite empty.

Only a few farm houses are visible at distance from here.

Zephy san told me that this area used to be outside the boundary wall and only recently the present lord of the city reconstructed the wall to expand it in this direction.

Therefore, the area is still quite empty.

After a brief walk, I decided to visit Milli chan and treat her to ice cream as promised.

On the way I kept practicing mana control and also scanned the people around.

My multitasking is quite good with this body. I can somehow do sort of do parallel thinking as well as perform tasks at same time.

I went back and helped the orphanage sisters in preparing food.

I told them that I had eaten already but I helped them feeding the kids as instructed by Dorthy san (the sister in charge now).

After the cleaning of utensils was done, it was time to go to bed.

This will be first time for me sleeping with 3 girls in same room. Although they are kids it still makes me nervousness.

After talking to Lily about what she did while I was gone, we all decided to go to sleep.

It seems Lily and her 2 friends Nina chan and Shuna chan learnt about planting vegetables in the farm.

The children here learn farming and other skills to help them survive in this world when they grow up.

It was a good education system for this kind of world. They not only learn reading writing and magic but also daily skills, which will help them survive.

Surprisingly I was so occupied in thinking such things I forgot about all my nervousness and fell sleep easily.

The next day, I got up early as always. The girls were still sleeping. I quietly went to the garden and did my daily training and meditation.

While doing so I saw zephy san coming out with luggage. Seems like it was time for her to leave.

I went towards her to say good bye. After accompanying her to the outer gate of city, I returned.

Then as told by Dorthy san I helped in preparing breakfast. Then she told me to wake up smaller children and help them in their morning business.

I was given in charge of 5 small boys of age between 5 and 8.

Dorthy san said that if I did well I would be given in charge of 10 boys. My duty was to help them in their morning routine and get them ready to eat breakfast.

Thankfully they atleast did not gave me responsibility of girls. At least that much difference is being taken care of by the sisters.

After my work was done, I told them that I was going to adventurer's guild.

Lily wanted to go with me but I was able to stop her with the promise that I would play house with her in the evening.

After reaching the guild, as I entered I saw that today there were a lot of adventurers here.

I scanned most of them.

Today the second floor had a high ranking party with level around 40.

They must be C rank adventurers. The quest boards on the ground and first floor were flooded with adventurers taking quests.

Even the male receptionists were busy today.

Though Tina san still had the shortest que in front of her out of all female receptionists.

People just don't know about her diligent side and think of her as a sloppy person who sleeps at her job.

Since I became an F rank adventurer, I went to the board that had big E and F written on the top in the common language.

The board was common for E and F rank quest. But since there was a lot of rush there. I could only get a glimpse of the quests hanging there.

The process of accepting quest seems to be simple.

Tina san had explained it to me briefly, but seeing it with eyes makes it easy to understand.

There were 3 main types of quest. General quests, designated quests and emergency quests.

As the name suggested general quests could be taken by bringing the paper posted on board to the receptionist.

For designated quest, a message was left on board for the party or individual to whom it is designated. They then bring that paper to a receptionist.

And for the emergency quest, they would be posted on the main board behind the receptionists.

General quests were further divided by rank as well as whether they could be repeated or not.

The quests that could be repeated were allowed to be taken by multiple adventurers and the quest paper need not be torn from the board.

The major examples of this were herb collection and goblin hunt quests.

Today I planned to do such a repeating general quest.

After the rush reduced a little, I was able to get near the E-F board.

I then slowly started translating the posted quests little by little in my mind.

I was able to identify words like goblin and herbs easily. So I noted the quest numbers for those.

After that I went to que in front of Tina san. Only 2 people were in front of me.

When my turn came I made a telepathy chant and talked with Tina san.

(Good morning Tina san. I came here today for accepting 2 general quests today.)

(Good Morning. Can you read them?)

She replied sleepily. She must be extra sleepy since its still early in morning.

(NO. not completely but I was able to discrete that quest no. 8 is goblin extermination and quest no.10 is curcuma herb collection...

But, still please tell me if it is not the case and also the details of quest.)

(Yes. You are correct about those...

For goblin kill atleast 10 and bring their right ear as proof and properly burn or bury the corpse if its not in forest otherwise you can leave it....

But if safety is not guaranteed, its still ok to leave the corpse...

Each ear will earn 30 copper. Area can be any but donot go into Ghalia forest though....

As for Curcuma herb, collect 20 root. Its shape is like ginger...

You can see what the plant looks like in reference room...

Each properly extracted Cucuma will get you 20 copper...

Again area can be from anywhere....

Generally people go to the grasslands south of this town.)

This is the ID no. which was written on the small rectangular tag given to me.

The first four alphabets were in common language and were initials of Neopatras Kingdom.

F stood for F rank and the number was simply the serial number.

After getting promoted, the serial number also changes.

Maybe the system constantly keeps deleting the serial numbers that died so as to keep a count on active adventurers but that data may only be available to upper echelons of society or guild authorities.

After my tag number was noted, I decided to go to the reference room for getting information of Cucuma herb and the places it grows.

The reference room was on the ground floor itself on the left of the counter.

Although the herb will be easy to find with my scan but its still faster if I know what it looks like just by seeing.

There was a huge library inside.

On the walls of this hall, there were displays hanging that showed the preserved samples of many herbs and other materials.

There were also drawn descriptions of rare herbs hanging, whose sample may be too expensive to keep.

And the hall had racks with books filled from top to bottom.

There were only a few people in the room. At the entry I was asked to show my guild ID and my number was noted down in a book by an official sitting near the entry.

He said something about not destroying the materials or books and penalty for that but I just nodded.

Of course I have no intension of causing trouble.

But from what I could understand he said that I may even be made a serf if I destroyed something too expensive.

Now that was unexpected. So the serf system does exist here.

But I have not seen any such thing till now. Maybe they can only be seen in slum district.

Anyways, I walked around the reference room and came to a section where all kinds of plants and herbs were displayed.

I was able to find sample of Cucuma herb plant displayed quite easily.

The plant had green long leaf and pink flowers. But the useful part was mainly the ginger like roots, that were yellow reddish in color.

Is this not turmeric if I am correct. Maybe mana powered turmeric enhanced its herbal properties in this world which made it into an ingredient of wound heal potion as well as HP recovery potion.

According to what little I could read and understand, it grows in mild temperature in grasslands and forest with medium rain and high mana.

Although Ghalia forest has all these conditions, it is dangerous to go there. I think I saw such plants there. But lets go somewhere else.
