Chapter 3:

Reliving the past

I won the romcom, but the fandom hates me so I was sent back in time to become best girl

I groaned as Fumiyo refused to answer my call for the 3rd time. No no no! I need to think. She said she’s gonna be a monk, so where do people go to become monks?

Hmm, a mountain! Where is the closest-

“Yona, why are you outside in your pajamas?” Sara growled.

“EEP! Oh, ut’s just you Sara. Say, do you know where people become monks in Kyoto?” I asked.

“*Sigh* I doubt they’d except you. It actually takes a lot of effort to become a proper monk. Though if this is for research, perhaps H-Temple would be the closest.”

“THANKS!” I yelled as I ran off leaving Sara confused.

Fumiyo couldn’t travel fast with her sprained ankle, so maybe I could catch her. Luckily, I arrived just as she got off a bus.

“FUMIYO! Don’t become a monk!” I pleaded.

“Yona-san? Why are you so frantic?” Yukino asked as she exited the bus.

“Huh!?”

“Yona, did you really think I’d be so depressed about being turned down that I’d become a monk. Seriously, I know you’re dumb, but I thought us sisters were close,” Fumiyo glared in disgust.

“B-But Iroha- “

“Suggested I come visit the temple. Did you seriously take her teasing at face value?”

“B- but the fandom…”

I instantly opened the fandom.

“Phew! Fake out.”

“Lol, Yona got duped.”

“Iroha’s still sus though.”

I was fooled!?

“Ara ara, you really had me worried when you ran off like that,” Iroha giggled as she appeared with Miyuu, Yoshi, and Sara.

“Yona, I know today’s a free day, but did you really have to run out in your pajamas?” Miyuu growled.

I immediately blushed as Yoshi approached me.

“Yona, you’ve been acting a little odd lately. Is everything alright?” he asked.

“Ahahaha, I guess I’ve just been on social media too much and it’s messing me up,” I laughed.

Yoshi sighed and smiled before patting me on the head.

“Don’t get so swept up in what’s going on in the world. You’re struggling enough just to get a passing grade.”

I feel like that’s more of an insult than a compliment. Well, that’s kind of ho Yoshi is. He means well, but it doesn’t always come out that way.

“Now that we’re all here, let’s explore the temple,” Yukino stated.

I got a bunch of weird looks but was able to tour the temple with everyone. Once we were done, I ran back to the hotel to change, before rejoining them.

“This used to be the headquarters of a famous video game company, now it’s been renovated to be a hotel,” Fumiyo explained.

“So can we go inside and play games?” I asked.

“No, it’s not an arcade dummy,” Miyuu groaned.

                                                                               …

We then visited Kinkaku-ji. We toured the place and took photos.

“We should definitely come back here for our honeymoon, Yoshi,” Yukino smiled.

Oh right, I forgot Yukino had known Yoshi since childhood, and was unofficially engaged to him. Her family was really rich, while Yoshi’s was a bit poor, but owned a nice diner. I guess Yukino’s father made a proposition that Yukino and Yoshi marry, which Yoshi’s father agreed to. Yukino was against it at first, but quickly warmed up to the idea. She hadn’t officially confessed her love, but I guess se assumed she didn’t need to since she was unofficially engaged. Then at our school festival, Yoshi confessed to me.

I remember Yukino had the worst reaction second only to Miyuu. It was then where we all learned about her unofficial engagement. I think the only reason she calmed down was because Iroha and our father somehow smoothed things over.

“What are you talking about!? Yo-kun’s not gonna marry you!” Miyuu growled.

“Just a little jest, dear Miyuu,” Yukino chuckled as Yoshi went red in the face.

“Why don’t we go grab some snacks,” I suggested as I dragged Yoshi away.

                                                                          …

“Thanks for the save Yona,” Yoshi said as he ate his ice cream.

“No problem, those two always seem to be bothering you,” I replied.

“Yeah, it’s complicated. Both have made it clear they’re in love with me. Though-“

“You don’t have feelings for them?”

“Well, mainly in regards to Yukino. I think of her more as a friend than a lover. However, and I want you to keep this a secret, our parents think we’re somehow perfect for each other and unofficially engaged us.”

I pretended to look shocked as Yoshi continued.

“There’s also someone else I’ve got a crush on, but after what happened with Fumiyo, I’m kind of afraid of having to turn down someone else. I can tell that Miyuu, Iroha, and Yukino all have feelings for me, but having to reject- “

“You could just confess to the one you love. Wouldn’t that solve things?”

Yoshi looked at me with a stunned gaze before smiling.

“Well, I shouldn’t have expected a grand answer from my dumbest student. Though if I do confess, I’d probably do it closer to the end of the school year. Wouldn’t want to sow discord before finals,” Yoshi stated as he walked away.

I couldn’t help but smile before checking the fandom. I was still ranked 4th, though Miyuu had risen to 1st while Fumiyo dropped to second. Yukino was still 3rd, but I was now only 1,000 votes behind her. I guess I was leaving a positive impact on the fandom.

*Save Point updated. Poll rank 4*

Well looks like things are going well. If all I need to do is have more presence to appease the fandom, that’s easy.

“You really are crazy Yona, though Yoshi’s engaged to Yukino hmm? Interesting,” Iroha thought as she remained hidden.

                                                                              …

As we returned to the hotel, I got into a chat with Miyuu.

“Say Miyuu, do you love Yoshi?” I asked.

“Of course I do. I even told him I did to his face.”

“What if he doesn’t love you?”

“Then I’ll make him love me. I just need to show him who I really am and build up our support level. Then he should be falling head over heels for me,” Miyuu smiled.

“Well, good luck. I think it will take a lot of effort to melt Yoshi’s heart.”

I felt a little guilty about saying that, but I felt I needed to prepare her for the eventual rejection. Oh wait, I gotta eat my steak. Don’t want it to get cold.

“Why are you pouring mayonnaise on your steak?” Yoshi asked as he passed by.

“Cuz it’s good.”

Yoshi simply smiled and went to eat with his friends. Maybe reliving these days wasn’t so bad after all. But it would be nice to do all this with Yoshi after getting married.

                                                                     [End for now]
