Chapter 10:

Bit The Bullet

Beasted

Why did I allow this to happen? I got too much comfortable... let my guard down...

Woke up in the morning. I was shaking. My mind was spinning. I couldn't believe it. I was bruised in more places, than just my arms, some scratches here and there. I felt dirty, shamed, humiliated, scared, angry... a bunch of complicated emotions at the same time...

I had to collect myself and go to work, but I wasn't able that day. I called in sick and stayed home in bed. The evening came accompanied by the darkness. That terrified me. He was coming too, I was sure about it. I wasn't wrong.

All of sudden I heard a tapping noise on my windowsill. A chill ran down my spine... For few seconds I didn't move, I even didn't breathe... I came back to my senses, got brave enough, and peeked from behind the curtain.

I saw flowers combined with autumn maple leaves. For a second wondered where he got those flowers, but I shook my head into the cruel reality. Somewhere in the darkness he was hiding and preying on me. I looked around, I was right. On the other side; next to a building, that shine.

Probably wanted to lure me out, but I wouldn't butch. The next few days I avoided going home after dark, or alone. Always annoying someone to come to visit me for coffee or tea. I was successful in keeping him away from me.

Until it came the day; I was going home alone... after sunset. I was very scared, looked around myself. In front of my apartment house, I saw him creeping into the darkness, but he didn't come closer. He stayed, where he was. I didn't let my eyes off him.

A familiar voice caught my attention. It was an unwanted person to be specific. "What do you want now?" He placed his hand on my shoulder. He was towering over me, despite he having an average height. I was too short for even my taste. I was the average height of a 12-year-old, even when I was an adult for a long time.

He stepped closer. "My offer still counts. We can forget about the past and get together. Or do you enjoy your mutt too much?" The memory of that night came back and I instinctively shoved him from me. I guess he got some ideas. "Did he jump you?" With a smirk on his face, he grabbed my face and pulled me towards him. I struggled to keep away from him.

I heard stomping coming from the side. I pushed my ex from me right in time. The werewolf came charging at him. If I wouldn't do it, he would bite right into his head. He missed and just snapped at the empty space between us.

His paws hit the ground and twisted to continue the attack. I threw myself on his back. "NO!" He stayed in place and just growled at my ex. I screamed at my ex to leave. He ran like the devil he was.

I started to shake out of fear. I was now alone with the werewolf, which assaulted me. He slowly moved to the side, keeping his head low and whimpering. Then he just backed off. Clearly, he showed me that he didn't mean harm... right now.

For a moment it made me feel guilty and sad for him. I shook it off, I shouldn't trust him that easily again. I walked backward and entered the building. It was a relief to be safe inside. I went home and he disappeared.

The next day I heard about hunters searching for a wolf dog which went crazy. I knew they talked about the werewolf. I pressed people around and they gave away the name of my ex. I went banging on his door. He cracked it open and just sent me away, that he saw him running away and he had to be put down.

He didn't report it to the police out of his twisted love for me, but he needed to get rid of that dangerous animal. I was haunted by those words he said. Right now the hunters were actively searching for the werewolf in the forest. NO! That can't be.

It was my fault, he tried to protect me from my ex, I couldn't let him die because of that. I had to do something. I had to help him... save him! I turned to the forest. The sun was hiding behind thick clouds. It looked like it would rain soon.

As I reached the edge of the forest it started to pour. In the distance, I heard screams and voices. A gunshot echoed through the valley. I had to hurry up. I needed to reach him first. The ground became muddy and my legs felt heavy by the step.

Uphill I heard some rustling and I looked that way. There he was! I was happy to see him alive. He noticed me too and came trotting to me. My smile was replaced with horror. From behind him in the distance, a gun barrel appeared between the brush... pointing at him.

I ran with a scream towards him. He didn't understand, what was happening. I passed by him and threw myself into the way. A gunshot sound soon faded away. I felt something hitting me into my shoulder making me fly to the ground.

A warm fluid engulfed my upper body, then the coldness started to swallow me together with the darkness.
