Chapter 10:

Start Of Act 2

Tales from the Forbidden Kingdom

Nestled within the towering ramparts of Saru's majestic castle, our champions found themselves cradled in the secure embrace of its fortress walls. The imposing door behind them stood sealed, a metaphorical thread that intricately woven their destinies. As they knelt in deep reverence before Saru, his countenance radiated a genuine warmth that easily dissolved any lingering formality. "Dear friends, within this sacred circle, formalities are mere veils with no true meaning. At our core, we are kindred spirits," he declared. In response to his disarming words, they rose, their hold on their weapons resolute yet respectful. Raven's tone bore a subtle wryness, a masterful attempt to maintain the proper decorum. "My liege, then who do you believe is most suited to lead our expedition?" Saru's gaze wandered the room in contemplation before settling on a choice. "Let us redirect our attention to a realm veiled in forbidden mystique - Eldoria." This proclamation evoked a nuanced change in the Mad Wolf's demeanor. Almost instinctively, they took a step back, their brow furrowing with concern. "Saru, if I may inquire, how did you come upon the knowledge of that secluded village?" Saru's eyes fleetingly met the Mad Wolf's, his expression touched by thoughtfulness. "Ah, you see, my father used to regale me with tales of Eldoria. It's a realm steeped in magic, renowned for its mastery of arcane arts. Whispers hint at the existence of Arcane Academies nurturing exceptionally skilled magic practitioners." A knowing smile graced the Mad Wolf's lips. "Indeed, Saru. The timing aligns perfectly, as they are presently immersed in their Festival of Magic." Raven's gaze turned inquisitive. "Could it be that they hold a treasure trove of history or ancient wisdom?" The Mad Wolf's smile deepened. "Undoubtedly, Raven. Their storehouse of knowledge is vast, positioning them as one of the world's most coveted enclaves. They possess a wealth of information and an enigmatic gap in their history—a period unaccounted for, intricately weaving the fates of four other kingdoms." Saru leaned back in his throne. "Ah, the four other kingdoms - once flourishing dominions of Aerindale, Marinor, Ombra, Tyrinthia - now shrouded in obscurity. The rulers who preceded the current ones... only the passage of time holds their truths." Arayn interjected. "If we are to embark on this journey, we will need to seek permission to use the village's horses. Given their trust in you, they are likely to grant it." Saru's grin broadened. "Indeed, their favor towards me will extend to my companions and kin." The Mad Wolf retrieved their wand, tracing a wide circle and casting a spell that would safeguard the villages from external threats, fortifying their defenses. "With this, Yuki will be powerless to breach our villages, and no one else from the outside will be able to either." As the group approached the door, poised for the next phase of their journey, Amelia sought refuge behind Saru, her grip tentatively tugging at his shirt. "C-can I accompany you, or is it my fate to remain behind?" Saru paused briefly before responding. "Amelia, I would dearly love for you to join us, but if any harm were to befall you, I could not bear it. I will return before you even realize I am gone." Amelia's gaze lowered. "Very well, I will safeguard the village and await your return, Saru." He offered a reassuring smile. "I entrust the village to your care." Saru and the group ventured outside, leaving the castle behind. A villager hastened toward him. "Sir, there is an individual outside with fruits, seeds, and even animals. Did you arrange this for us?" Saru clasped the man's hand in his. "Indeed, I desire our community to eat and cultivate sustenance, and to possess animals for repopulation if needed. I refuse to emulate rulers who starve their subjects. Despite our elevated status, we will share tables with you. And if necessary, we will also work in the fields." The man chuckled, struggling to maintain a serious expression. "I am pleased that we can share meals together, and I'm even more delighted to see that you're willing to work alongside us in the fields." The Mad Wolf approached the merchant, creating a path for him to unload his cargo. Raven and Arayn joined in, assisting in unpacking the merchant's cart. Saru hurried over to give the merchant his payment. He pulled out a pouch and handed the man 500 gold coins. "Thank you for making this trip on such short notice. I hadn't anticipated that we would all be leaving the villages simultaneously." The merchant smiled while accepting the money. "It's no trouble at all, sir. Trust me, that's why we have a large number of people, to manage tight schedules." Saru smiled and watched as the merchant rode off into the sunset. The Mad Wolf closed the magic spell once more. Saru, the Mad Wolf, Arayn, and Raven walked over to the farm area. Saru looked around for the old man who was in charge of the horses. "Hey George, are you here today?" Suddenly, a loud bang echoed from the back of the barn. Saru rushed over and began removing metal buckets from the floor, finally uncovering one from atop George's head. "Hello, George," Saru said, extending his hand to help him stand up. George took Saru's hand and stood up. "What do you need? Also, thanks for the help." Saru looked around before answering. "I would like to borrow four horses." George smiled. "Take the ones you think are suitable." Saru turned around and walked out. "Thank you, George." Saru, Aryan, Raven, and the Mad Wolf mounted their horses, ready to set off on their journey.
