Chapter 28:

A dragon's fury!

Rebirth of the mighty overlord

When Alan processes what Akane had just said his mind went blank for a second, another spirit weapon. He couldn't understand how he could have another spirit dwelling within him other than Akane.

According to certain beliefs spirits are born directly from the soul of their partners. Once a spirit was born, they are forever bounded with their partners and accompany them throughout their lifetime and dies alongside their partner.

It wasn't unheard-of for someone to have manifest two spirit weapons, as there are some cases where twin spirits manifest. However, Ellard was only able to awaken one spirit, the spirit of blood, Akane.

She was the bounded partner that had accompany him throughout his first life. Thus, Alan was extremely confused how could he manifest another spirit weapon?

'... If I remember correctly the spirits strength and rank grows in portion to the soul of the vessel, I was lucky to acquire a high ranked spirit like Akane... How was it possible that I now have another spirit dwelling within me? Unless don't tell me?!'

"C-Could it be... This spirit is the spirit bounded to Alan?" Alan inquired, curiously.

[As expected of you... You are correct this spirit is the one that would have bounded within him if you hadn't merged with him.] Akane explained.

"W-Wait the spirits are bounded to the soul of the vessel, the fact that I can still summon you means that my original soul is definitely inside this new vessel now, right? How is it possible for me to have the soul of Alan when I clearly have my own soul here?" He asked tilting his head in confusion. Nothing here made any sense, the strength of the spiritual body varied differently from individual to individual. However, it should have been impossible for the physical body to withstand the strength of two souls at the same time.

The worst case is that the physical body would explode from the pressure of both souls.

[You are absolutely correct. However, some time ago while you were training, I happened to notice that your soul along with Alan's had merged and had become one at some point. In other words, the fusion of both souls had created an entirely new soul. I don't know the complexity of it but I'm guessing that goddess of yours probably had something to do with it.] Akane responded.

After all the one who reincarnated Ellard into Alan's body was the goddess Udea, she must had known something like this would have happened the moment she decided to have Ellard's soul reincarnate. Knowing his soul would occupy someone else's body, it wouldn't have been strange if she prepared something inside his soul to allow Ellard's soul to successfully combined with Alan's so that both souls could exist without the dangers of the physical body suddenly exploding.

[Well... it could also be that I'm just thinking too much, and that goddess had nothing to do with it.] Akane thought to herself.

At that Alan's green, emerald pupils shone faintly, indeed if it was the power of the goddess then it would make sense. Udea was able to grant miracles and create wonders using her divine powers, something like this should be nothing for the power of the goddess.

"As expected of her!!" Alan bellowed with enthusiasm, for him serving the goddess was his only purpose aside from acquiring more strength.

"... Even without her blessing she is still helping me even now! I... I have to get stronger and once again stand by her side as her strongest knight!"

Seeing Alan talk so passionate about the goddess Akane had the urge to roll her eyes.

[Sigh, anyway the spirit dwelling within you seem to be quite a powerful one... If you had not taken over Alan's body, he would have been quite a powerful spirit swordsman.]

"I... I see. Do you know what rank this spirit is?"

[No clue, unfortunately, even though I can see the essence of the spirit it's still far too young for me to know it's rank, you'll naturally have to wait to find out once you come of age.]

"I see... In that case we'll have to wait three years from now, well having another spirit isn't bad, my combat prowess should skyrocket with the appearance of another spirit weapon." Alan said nodding happily to himself, however...

[Hmph...] Akane snorted in displeasure.

"You seem to be upset, is something wrong?" Alan asked somewhat unsure.

[Humph, while you are busy basking in the fact that you have a second partner don't forget about the one who had accompanied you through your first life.] Akane said grumpily.

Hearing that Alan exhibited a faint smile. Soon, he stretched out his hand. "Come Akane."

Particles of light gathered in his hand until a beautiful long silver sword materialize.

Alan stared at his sword with his eyes shining with various emotions.

"... You have nothing to worry about, Akane you we're the one who stayed by my side throughout my life as Ellard. We both experience everything together and you also allowed me to borrow your power and gave me the opportunity to grow stronger, everything I achieved in my past life was because of you. I doubt there is any other spirit that could ever replace you, partner."

[...] Akane didn't respond however, Alan wasn't discouraged as he was connected to Akane he could feel all of her emotions and feelings the same way she could also feel all of his.

He could easily tell she was quite embarrassed after hearing his passionate words.

"To make you feel better how about I give you a nice polish!" As he said that Alan took out a white cloth and began rubbing down the surface of the silver blade.

[Hmmm...] Akane suddenly let out a sound of great pleasure as she felt the soft sensation of the cloth. Hearing her sweet voice Alan smiled as he kept wiping the blade of his sword.

...

Meanwhile, in a certain location inside Alan's soul...

A black sphere pulse violently as a surge of energy erupted occasionally from the outer layer. The sphere was like an abyss as no light could penetrate its mass. In actuality the sphere of darkness seems to absorb anything and everything that approaches its area of influence.

Even the spiritual energy within Alan's soul could not get through.

Rumble!

Suddenly, the sphere rumbled fiercely!

"..." Inside the sphere of darkness an unknown being suddenly opened its eyes. Revealing two amethysts like pupils.

The figure observed Alan who was cleaning his spirit sword curiously with its eyes flashing.

"... M-Master." The whisper of a young boy resounded amidst the darkness.

...

Somewhere inside the dusky forest that was faintly lit with the gleam of the silver moon....

ROOOAR!

The bestial roar of a dragon shook the forest. Laying on the ground was a creature who seemed to be roughly ten meters tall.

Its entire body was covered with red scales and the creature had red reptilian like eyes. Two curved horns adorned its head, and from its rear a long whip like tail extended outwards.

The creature seems to be a baby dragon that was stuck in some kind of magic formation.

ROOOAR!

Its painful roar sounded akin to someone experiencing the worst kind of torture. Three figures wearing robes stood around the formation transferring their mana into the magic circle.

ROOOAR!

The brighter the magic formation shone the more pain the baby dragon was subjected to!

Soon, it's eyes became dull as it collapses onto the ground weakly.

"Tch, that's it. Aren't these baby dragon's a little too weak?" A man wearing a purple robe said in displeasure.

"Quit complaining the energy from the baby dragon's maybe a little insufficient but it should be enough for us to awaken that thing." A man wearing a black robe said, he stared at the fallen body of the baby dragon with indifference as a smile appeared on his face.

"You two enough wasting time... We have what we need those nuisances should be making their way here any moment now." A man dressed in a white robe said. Soon, the glow of the magic formation gradually receded as they stop transferring their mana inside the formation.

The baby dragon's body convulsed until it had completely stopped moving.

After having so much of its life energy sapped away it was unable to sustain its own existence. His eyes were completely lifeless as it lay slumped onto the ground.

Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!

Soon, multiple shadows swooped down from the skies approaching the baby dragon that laid onto the ground lifeless.

The dragon's that appeared were all subspecies of adult dragons. One of them, however, had red scales and red reptilian eyes. The dragon's all gathered around the baby dragon and sniffed its body.

The dragon with red scales used its claws and gently caresses the body of what seem to be its own child. However, when it saw that it wouldn't respond a powerful fury never seem before suddenly surged up!

ROOOOOOOOAAAAAR!

Its draconic eyes glowed ominously as it let out a roar of both rage and grief that scared many of the monster and wild beasts nearby!

ROOOOAAAAR!

ROOOOAAAR!

ROOOOAAAAR!

A symphony of bestial cries resounded continuously inside the forest!...

...

The next day...

The capital of the kingdom of Nahinil was quite lively as the sound of screams resounded continuously.

After the sun rose high into the clear azure sky that was still chilly from the night air, a swarm of dragon suddenly appeared and started attacking the city indiscriminately. Many beautiful buildings that were once gorgeous structures of the city were destroyed and was scattered everywhere.

The paved streets had cracks along the surface of the tiles and even the poles which held the artificial lighting were bent while some were destroyed.

The citizens all ran away disorderly in a panic. Dragons were natural disasters that were known to be very difficult to deal with.

Just one or two dragons was already giving humans a hard time but now there were so many of them that it was impossible to count.

The royal knight guards all tried to calm down the citizens as much as possible. However, their efforts ended in failure.

The mages from the sun clan were already on the front lines doing their best to repel the approaching dragon's along with the royal knights. Incidentally members of the dragon clan were also participating in the battle.

...

A dragon with black scales around its body suddenly released a beam of black light downwards towards the battlefield.

"Shit! Retreat!"

"E-everyone used your shields prepare for impact!"

"A-Are you stupid? Do you think a mere shield can block that?!"

Seeing the beam of light approaching the knights began to panic as they scattered around in an unorganized manner.

"... I call upon you, keepers of the heavenly realms shield us from all dangers. Prevent them from trespassing into our domain, holy sanctuary." Before the beam of black light could reach them a geometric magic formation appeared, soon. A dome shaped barrier surrounded them.

BOOOOM!

The beam collided with the barrier however, it was unable to put a single scratch onto the barrier. Sitting gracefully on top of a large rock in the middle of the battlefield was a beautiful black-haired woman with snow white skin and a slender figure. She wore a black kimono that was decorated with various ornaments and held a pipe in her hand.

"S-So this is the magic of lady Cassidy!"

"Impressive!"

"I can see why she is the most talented mage of the esteemed sun clan."

Cassidy casually ignored the muttering of the knights and her glossy red lips parted softly as she blew out a puff of smoke from between her luscious lips.

"... How irritating." She mumbled in displeasure. The dragon's continued to fire their breath attacks constantly, the barrier shuttered fiercely from each collision. A cold glint shone through her onyx like eyes as she said indifferently, "... To disturb my peaceful sleep, as expected perhaps I was being a little too merciful... You creatures deserve a fate far worse than death, hellfire!"

Four large magic formation appeared in the sky, each shone with a dazzling light before black flames shot outwards at a tremendous speed!

BOOOM!

ROOOOAAAR!

The dragon's roared in pain as the dark flames burnt their scales and gradually made their way towards their flesh. The defense of a sub dragon wasn't as strong as that of a true dragon.

They all flapped their wings roughly, trying to extinguish the flames which threaten to burn their draconic skin. However....

ROOOOAAAAAR!

"... Oh?" Cassidy raised her eyebrow in amusement as she raised her head gazing at a particular dragon that got her interest.

It was a dragon with red scales whose eyes burnt with visible fury!

"Hmmm... So much hatred, could it be that something happened to the dragon?" She pondered briefly until, "Anyway, die. Air cutter!"

Multiple magic formation appeared releasing blades of wind!

After pondering the reason why, the dragons were angry and attacking for a second, she ultimately completely lost interest afterwards.

The red dragon fired a breath attack toward the approaching blades of wind!

BOOOOOM!

A huge explosion occurred as both attacks collided at a point in the sky!
